CONTEST: WTB - Calendar Designers for May!

Looking4 aspiring artistes with a flair for the creative, the expressive, the humorous and a knack for designing cool desktop wallpaper calendar designs!

If you're up to the task then step up the plate, send in your design(s) and take part in Round #4 of our Calendar Design Contest for the month of May. For this round the weather gets warmer as Summer looms right around the corner. Warmth and ember hues come to mind and for those in a festive mood think Cinco de Mayo!

To participate here's what you need to do:

1) Begin by downloading our calendar kit for May 2009 here:

This zip folder includes the background template, a sample calendar, and a number of stock images that you can use for your design.

2) Load the background template into the image manipulation software of your choice and jazz up the template in any manner you like. Examples include: using screen captures, real life photos of yourself (keep it clean!), images found on our website, self created elements, etc. - Just be creative! The stock images included in the calendar kit are a great place to start but feel free to find other sources of inspiration!

In fact, if you're bold enough you aren't even required to use our provided image background. All that is required is that your designs include a calendar grid for the month of May 2009 along with the PWI logo and/or website URL. Keep in mind that judges are usually partial toward designs that encompass the 'theme' of the month - in this case warm hues that conjure up the approach of Summer and other festive imagery will certainly earn you a point or two of added kudos.

3) When you feel that your calendar is up to par, email your image file to:

events@perfectworldinc.com

MULTIPLE submissions are allowed so don't be afraid to take risks!

In your email, please include your in-game character name and server in order to receive your prize should you win. "Hmm, what's this about prizes?" you say...

4) The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 29th at 11 a.m. Pacific time. All submissions will be reviewed by representatives from the Community, Product and Design teams here at Perfect World Entertainment and winners will be announced on Friday, May 1st!

The Top 5 Designs (based on criteria such as artistry, creativity, humor, expressions,etc.) will be featured on our website and made available for all users to download. For the month of May we will be awarding 5 'MYSTERY' prizes. These prizes are 'mystery' only to inject a sense of suspense but trust me when i say that it's 'good' stuff! b:victory

RULES:

- Send your Calendar design to events@perfectworldinc.com by 11 a.m. (Pacific) on Wednesday, April 29.
- Do not resize the dimensions of the background template (we need it to fit on standard monitor sizes!).
- Designs must incorporate a calendar grid for the month of May, along with a PWI logo and/or the URL of our website.
- Files MUST be in .jpg, .gif or bitmap (.bmp) only.
- Do not blatantly rip off and insert trademarked art elements (eg - movie captures of Batman, etc.).
- Please keep your designs in good taste. Submissions that are deemed objectionable will be rejected for consideration.

    I decided to try this, this month. Big change from doing siggys lol. Ill post my creation once Im done being self critical lol.

    For May though I think of Memorial Day and Mothers Day! May is the month of M's lol.

    Hehe Im starting to get the hang of making the calendars now. I just finished my second entry. It doesnt really fit their "festive" style for this month.

    For me though being a veterns wife, Memorial day is a big holiday and my next entry was a dedication to Memorial Day.

    Memorial day isnt about War its about remembering those who faught for your country. You dont have to live in the USA to remember those who serve your country and to honor them.


    Everyone can find a reason to complain about something, trust me Im good at it myself.

    But find something else to complain about. This is how I express what May means to me and to my knowledge there was no rule on this contest saying that wasnt allowed.

    Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "Fifth of May") is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico.     I'm mexican, and I've lived in several places arround this country, and I can tell you. The fact that the battle took place in Puebla doesn't mean they're the only ones who know about it. It is not the most important "patriotic" celebration (that would be our Independence Day) but I think the reason it became famous across the U.S. (due to the many immigrates there) is because it was a battle against the french (that's just what I think, not a 100% certain fact). But anyway: let's all do our best with this month's wallpaper once again.

    Still though some of us may despise the very idea behind national pride, including support of those who have murderd countless lifes for the sake of those nations. HOWEVER that shouldnt stop you from digging into your artsy side so from an artists point of view good job.

    Thats fine and as I said from those people who DO mind, I shouldnt expect to see any Cinco De Mayo calendars from them either as IT IS a holiday based on winning a WAR.

    Im an American, I support my troops. I have pride for my country and the people who gave up their lives for me to have the freedoms and life that I do now. Get over it.
