How does the drop system work?

Can anyone tell me how the drop system works while in a group?
As I can be group leader and get myself a party sorted, go into a dungeon and then spend a good 30 mins in their and get lots of drops drop but actually only get maybe 1-2 things?

Not entirely sure what your second sentance means. But, as far as drops:
Free: whoever picks it up, keeps it
Random: A little *too* random for most, and what I think you were trying to say. Yes, there could be 100 drops and one person could get 90 of them while someone gets zero.
People claim that damage may have something to do with it, but as a DD I find myself skimped just as much as anyone else. I actually have an inkling it may be level based, but then again, it may very well just be super random with a chance of falling into a "rut".~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
When creating a party you can set either option Random or Free. By pressing 'T'
Random - Drops picked up will be randomly distributed. One person can get 1 drop and another person 6.
Free - Only picks up what you pick up.. Not fair if someone is spamming Pick up.0 -
The best word i can think of is,badly.Quit 100%...and surprised my forum account wasn't banned...yet0

Every MMo that has a random drop option is badly done. It is random though. You roll a dice one day you could have all 6, another day all 2, another day half 4 half 1.
Solution: you're a veno, you can grind more money and drops than any other class at your level. Go solo for a while.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I don't know why there isn't a round-robin option. Just have a list and cycle pick ups. That way it's "random" but "evenly distributed" and it doesn't matter who picks up what.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] ((AFK from game. bbiab.))0

I don't actually play as a Veno thats just my forum account.
Yeah I ment when it says random, does it really mean random and I guess it does!
Are their no plans to impliment better drop systems? Hate to drag other games into it but for instance some of the drop systems they have on World of Warcraaft like need before greed and round robin work very well and am sure they would work just as well here??0 -
random chance is so messed up in this game anyways. i can somehow miss 4 times in a row on a mob that clearly says 98% hit. i can also somehow crit 4 times in a row with 16% crit chance. last fb51 i ran, 4 darkness stamps were dropped, and 1 guy in the squad got 3 of them. we were like o.o
squad setting was on random too btw0 -
The random can get into a rut. I've noticed that xfering lead can "reset" the algorithm (sp). But that doesn't matter when you're squading with friends. I'm more interested in getting mobs to drop more, but thats even more hocus pocus. Have fun today!

False. Go play Rappelz for awhile and go get a DP. You will get drops, everyone will get drops. It'll be a pretty even distribution.
This games drop system is good enough for the short bus.Q - How to win on Perfect World?

Another way of doing it would be to implement a system where, only the group leader adn someone he sets as a lot monkey will get high lvl items or rare items. Basically you run a raid and at the end of the raid the items are rolled on.
So you could set up a program where you could type /random 100 and you would be alloted a number between 0-100, person with lowest number gets to pick first from items or is given the first item in leaders bag.
Another options is to especially running FB's have one person designated to get all the loot then run the fb again and so on and so on. That way it may take awhile but everyone gets a bag full of ****.0 -

The random distribution is a bit crazy. I squad with my husband and he never wants any of the furs, so he'd leave them to me to pick up. The game *loves* to give them to him. Even when his inventory's full. I can keep clicking and clicking and clicking on the item and it won't be picked up because, 10 clicks in, it's still trying to "randomly" send it to him - with a full inventory.
Needless to say we do Free distribution now and divvy the spoils when we're done.Take the moment in your hands, and dust off the parts that you wish weren't there. Hold onto and pursue the parts you enjoy, letting the drifting dust fade away on the wind, remembered and learned from, but no trouble to you now. ~ Myself, 4/4/09.

It just seems silly to me that something as important as the loot that is dropped, which is vital to any RPG game has such limited options while in a party.
Can the developers not implement additional looting options to make group looting better for everyone involved?
I don't want to go through a dungeon and get lots of arcane or heavy armour as its no use to me yet I always seem to get them!0 -

I'm pretty sure what's going on is that the first time you tried to pick up the fur, it got allocated to him. So every subsequent time you tried to pick it up, it automatically gave it back to him.
To re-random it, he needs to clear up space in his inventory so he can get the fur, then drop it again. I'm not 100% sure this works though, haven't really tested it.0 -
that reminds me of a something-- I read in a book called The Drunkard's Walk that a lot ofpeople complained about the original IPod's "shuffle" option because it would sometimes play the same songs over again. So Apple basically had to change the algorithm to make it less "random".
Like the poster above said, they want even distribution, not random distribution.0
