Wizard Help (PvE)
I'm on Harshlands but I'm getting sick of the Factions having KoS. I'm going to create a PvE Wizard but I would like some tips on building him. Here are the questions that I would like answered.
-What is a good Point Allocation for a PvE Wizard?
-Should I find a faction ASAP or should I not worry about it?
-Should I squad up whenever possible or is soloing fine?
-What Magic Class should I focus on (Fire, Water or Earth)?
For those of you who may want to know, I'm a barbarian on Harshlands in a faction named Kylin. I'm getting tired of being Pked by Sin members (BTW they say that we started the whole thing but I've yet to be convinced because they keep killing me when I leave them alone) I want to be a Wizard because it's the highest hitting class in the game. If you could please leave me some good answers, I would really appreciate it.

Death and the Marines have two things in common;
1. They both kill other people as easily as breathing.
2. They both would kill each other if they met face to face.

For a PVE wizard...
Best to go somewhat Hybrid (1 VIT 9 MAG every 2 levels, or 2 VIT 8 MAG) so you wont die constantly while questing or what not.
Yes find a faction so you can quest with them, get FB/boss help, etc.
Teaming up with people doing the same quest is obviously the best choice. Now, its just trying to get those ignorant idiots to team up.
Why do newbies ask this so much, you get all three. Gush, Pyrogram and Rock Rain are your ABC's as a wizard
Also, if youd ont like getting PK'd by Sin, then leave your faction and join a carebear one. Harshlands sucks because they're all a bunch of wannabes calling kos on eachother for stupid reasons. But honestly, PvP > PvE server.
Going from a Barb to a wizard is going to be tough because they're practically opposites. Barbs dont ****ing die and hit very low. Wizards die ALOT and hit very high.0 -
i don't see why a wizard on a pve server would need more vit than one on a pvp server. especially if it's for questing. you make it sound like you're getting exp for killing people.0

Oh look its FORP the CONTROVERT!
Hybrid is an option because Wizards are naturally squishy. So if he gets aggro or attacked by a range'd mob he wont die as easily.
You're ridiculous.
And on a side note, you can go "Pure Int" too (all points into magic and str for gears) but you will be terribly squishy, even with a charm.0 -
If you go hybrid though, prepare to reset later on.0

the hell? i'm asking why a pve wizard would need vit but a pvp wizard wouldn't. honestly. both pve and pvp servers have to kill the same monsters, why would you base ANYTHING on that?

I have a pretty good Wizard on PVE and I did more than fine with all Mag and enough Str for my magic weapon of choice. Never died unless it was my own fault straying to close to uber bosses trying to farm herbs.
On a side note, don't give up on the PVP side of things. I found that the PVE server was quite a bit more quiet and the thrill of possibly being PK'd from time to time was lacking. If you are tired of rolling on Harshlands, roll on Lost City. I have only been PK'd once because I kept following another character around trying to get a good look at their armour. So they just one shotted me instead. b:chuckletatuaje: grinding mobs and zhenning ???

When did i say that hybrid was strictly for PvE?
You're a dumbass, and over conclusive.0 -
after such a comment I can spot the dumbass quite easy b:bye____________

Uhhh, God. Why did I ever bother asking?Death and the Marines have two things in common;

I did perfectly fine as a full int wizard. I looked for pdef or HP mods in armor and socketed for HP.
HP charm = problem solved for mob ganks. You have to be pretty unlucky to get killed by mobs with an HP charm, i.e. sac-**** or increased attack.I like pie0 -

So put a point allocation like (1 STR 4 Mag) Every lvl and just stuff my robe and wand sockets with Hp Stones and go out of my way to find things with HP and VIT buffs? I think I can do that.Death and the Marines have two things in common;

You may find that you don't need 1 str for every level but every second level. Be sure not to waste any points on str. if you don't need to. You are gonna want every point to become that super glass cannon that you strive to be. So always keep an eye on your magic weapons str requirements.tatuaje: grinding mobs and zhenning ???

rofl if u follow those biulds u wont have any str to use eq ROFL
but srsly
theres only 2 biulds that are worth trying
LA: 1str 1 dex 3 mag every level
Pure: 9 mag 1 str every 2 levles0 -

It's 1 str every 2nd level. Best way to play it is to plan a few levels ahead and set your target on gear. Only armor/weapons require Str increases and you dont get new armor every level. Typically you get:
Chest at x0,
helmet x1,
pants at x3,
wrists at x4,
boots at x6,
Weapons are a little different but its usually not worth upgrading your weapon every 2-3 levels. Just pick a weapon type that you like and see which level you can use it.
Once you hit 70 and decide on getting TT70 gear(not all that great for Wizards, better to stick to good pluses or regular gear) you only need to meet the str rqmnt at lvl 70 then just magic every level until you hit 80.I like pie0 -

That makes me feel so much better......BTW you guys can stop fighting I'm going to stick with being a Barb.Death and the Marines have two things in common;

Don't give up hope. I've started a barb before and found it awfully tedious and painfully boring.
A wiz can be a nice change of pace for you even if just as an alt.
During your first 20 levs pure int build works out just fine and should give you a feel for the class.
If you find you die too easily you might consider the LA build, spend 5 levs catching up on str\dex reqs for your Light armor gear and see how you like the increased survival.
If your not having any problems surviving, then continue on the pure int path.
Those are the two viable builds, there are other options but the efficiency starts to fall off.
You'll use primarily Gush,Pyro, Stone Rain for the first 40 levels, so its important to get all 3. Don't worry about masteries for a while. Your basic attack combo will be Stone Rain,Gush,Pyro,Gush,Pyro,Gush, Pyro OR Stone Rain, Gush, Run, Gush, Run, Gush, Run, Gush. When you get Pheonix you'll get a nice change of pace to SR>G>P>Pheonix>G>P>G
To try and reduce your expenses also get Glacial Barrier for mana regen and use apoth items for mana regen.
If your going PvP after 30 then look at Stone Barrier as your primary shield.
Get Distance shrink 1 as quickly as you can in either situation.0 -
I see a lot of advice on using the SR as starter...
for some reason my Divine Pyro is doing much more dmg than the SR, so i'ts my starter in a majority of combos. BOTH are maxed for my lvl
I haven't seen yet an argument for SR against DP that would hold water. Or is just a question of preference?
For Metal u should start with fire, right? DP rulz here I thik. I'm making ~4000 dmg on the Ramshackle Roc vs close to +3k from SR .. why start with SR? True, even with a SR-G-P I won't need more than 3 shots.
Water- SR makes sense.
Fire- water - clear enough
Wood - what's wrong with DP here?____________

For low levs SR is available while DP is not. Later DP dmg is better and its a better started unless the target is fire based or water based, in which case SR.0 -
uh....right, I see your point.____________
