I have recently written a short something, and i would like you all to tell me what you think of it; it was written from my perspective: the son of a U.S. soldier that is about to be deployed for the third time... please listen to my words.

In Washington D.C., there are a number of memorials that have been constructed to honor the dead. As great of an honor as it is to have a memorial, there would be no need for memorials if America was not so willing to go to war. Too often does this country take up arms against another. Too often are lives lost in a battle easily avoided. Too often are innocent live laid down before an enemy that knows so little of them. It is the least America’s leadership can do, to erect monuments in the name of fallen soldiers.
America is known for its immense military force. I believe this to be the root of its violent nature; violent beginnings spell for a violent life. This country was born of fire, blood, and betrayal. The very reason we are free today is because, many years ago, our country rebelled against England, which led to a hard, bloody war. That bloodshed and violence is the only reason can call itself “The Land of the Free”; because of the death of thousands of soldiers, a large number of which were not soldiers, just men with guns thrust into their hands.
This country will soon be torn apart by the burning turmoil within it. It joins in every combat it can; ending the lives of many that could have led lives to benefit those around them rather than fill a hole in the ground or occupy some foreign jail cell, feeding on rations not fit for a rat. The KIA. The MIA. All deserving of a memorial, though none of them should be put in a position to receive one; WAR IS HELL!
When a man enlists for he U.S. military, he typically desires combat, not all, but a lot of them do; they’re Americans, what do you expect? Few are willing to lay down their lives for a government that cares nothing for them; just the gear they use and the money they spend. When one goes to war, he stops existing as a human, and becomes a grunt, a pawn in the war-game of chess. He stops being a human, and then becomes a tool, used and positioned by those of higher rank. Ordered to end a life, one rarely understands how sacred a human life really is.
War is hell...

This topic should have been posted in the off topic section, but I will reply anyway.

    Okamia

First I want to say that I am grateful for the sacrifices that you, your family, and every other member of the United States military make for myself and others every single day. Secondly, I honestly can’t say that I know exactly what you’re feeling right now. I have lost three close friends to war in the recent years since 9-11, but I have never had to watch a parent leave knowing that they may very well die.

Now to my main point. I can understand why you would have such distaste for war. I cannot fathom what it would be like to be there myself, and I hope for whatever his reason to join was, you support him completely. Not agreeing with what the government is doing is one thing, but in your post you put down and disrespect the very foundation of the United States. You call it betrayal, a negative description to say the least. I look at it as a group of people that wanted a better life for themselves and their families, and were willing to fight for it. Willing to die for it. We raise memorials so that future generations of military families and everyday citizens can look back and remember why we are able to live like we do. The sacrifices you and yours are making right now are no different than those made by past generations. The very fact that you can post this is a testament to that fact. You don’t have to like what’s going on, but at least show some respect for the people and families that don’t feel the way you do. The people that love this country and everything it stands for. Hate it if you want to, that’s your right. But understand that you’re not the only one that’s hurting. Others have given just as much as you have, and believe it or not, some of them actually like it here.
If you want something great, you've gotta be willing to bet it all. If you bet it all, you had better be prepared to lose.

A wise person once said "A country created by war must continue to fight wars to sustain itself." The US will never see an end to their conflicts and will enevitably die in a sea of blood forged from the hatred they created. Every year that passes we get closer to the fate of all things. Welcome to the world. Enjoy your time before you check out.

I cant help but post here so in my words I will say...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?.

If you think the US is going to war for your "Freedom" your mistaken my friend you are mistaken in a horrible way..The only reason the US goes to war is to fill its fast draining pockets not knowing that in a stupid way a very demented way its giving out of its pocket even more..

    One word...OIL..

The war on Iraq is not for "freedom" its not for that at all not by a long shot how do you free ppl that all they want is you OUT .how do you free ppl that used to live better lives than what they are living now..

Are you telling me that in order to be free you have to be in constant fear?

Those ppl didnt give their lives for YOU they gave their lives for for money that the US is seemingly have a big shortage of right now..

As G.Washington led the path for a spoused freedom, Bush led the path for the US fall..

Bombing the homes of families living in a shed cuz their original homes was bombed before that in the name of their freedom?.,excuse me your not making sense here not at all..Is it your freedom you might say.

What freedom the fact that these attacks have caused nothing but angry families who want revenge for their fallen kin...nothing but increased taxes...nothing but hate from ALL the other countries of the world..

This land was built by civil war and it will END in civil war mark my words our country done nothing but unlock the gates of hell on it...

granted, this war is not over our freedom, but rather oil, but look at most of the other major conflicts... either for freedom or because of America's pride.

If there are so many people here that hate what this country is doing, why don't you say something somewhere other than a video game forum. If you have kudos to you, if not then go make yourself heard. Otherwise, either crawl back inside your conspiracy funded bomb shelter or move.

    War IS hell.

That being said, there are times when the results gained by war are worth the brutality and the loss of life.

In my opinion, those who are eager to go to war have 1 or more of the 4 following reasons:
    1) They do not know how bad war is. Usually because they have never known what it is like to live in a warzone, and sometimes because they only think they know what war is like (i.e. war themed games). After all, how many war veterans support going to war without a really good reason? Their support will come with what they believe has to be done, knowing the hell that will have to be endured.

    2) They are insulated from the effects of war. They see war as something that gets reported on during the evening news, talked about over the watercooler at work, and they have no relatives that are in the line of fire. After all, how many people who have a relative in a war zone sleep easily when hearing about an outbreak in violence in the area that their relative is posted? How many people would send their relatives into a war zone to financially profit from their potential deaths?

    3) They believe in the propoganda that they are exposed to (truth, half-truths, lies, feel good statements). 'They' are threatening our way of life, 'they' want to kill us so we should kill them first, 'they' are all fanatic militants that want to nuke us, for 'freedom', etc. Repeated stories of valour and glory, events of horror never spoken of, known events that show the best in people, hidden events of the worst in people. Truth, half-truths, lies, feel good statements all contribute to giving a reason to go to war; used to gather support, used to manipulate opinions, used to protray a particular image. "A person who hears a lie often enough begins to believe it as truth"; how much of propoganda is the truth and how much is not the truth?

    4) They, a relative, or a friend, have sustained injury, lost a relative, and/or lost something valuable to them. They want revenge, to strike back at those that they see as the perpetrators. Injure, kill, or make their opponent suffer ... the targeted opponent either lives, has relatives, and/or has friends ... and so, a cycle of violence feeds itself and grows.

Possibly other reasons, but none come to mind at the moment.

I am glad that you see the drawbacks of war, but I hope that it does not blind you. The United States does have an immense military, but I don't think that the size of the military itself makes the U.S. violent. I think it lies more in the baser levels of humanity; the U.S. has an immense military, some see that as making them 'stronger', some think 'stronger'='better'='more righteous' and being 'stronger' start to believe and dictate with a 'might makes right' mentality. Unfortunately, I think that your previous president was of that 'might makes right' mentality, and also unfortunately had enough support in the U.S. to allow him to delude himself into believing that he could flex the U.S. military muscle and reality would conform to his wishes. And so, the people of the U.S. now suffer with the aftereffects.

Monuments are to try to remember what was lost, sacrificed, and endured for what was gained. Unfortunately, some only see them as a tribute to their country's glory, seeing the names as mere scratches on the side of the glorious monument.

I believe that some soldiers who have seen war understand the sacredness of life better than the elected representatives that sends them. Other soldiers swing to the other side of the pendulum and lose the perception of the value in a life. War brings out the best and the worst in humanity.

Don't be hatin' and lighten up. First of, as far as I'm aware, you don't have to go to the military in the U.S.
So if the guy goes off and gets shot multiple times, dies, parents cry, girlfriend/wife cries, everybody's sad... WELL GUESS WHAT ****??!! IT WAS HIS CHOICE! IT WAS HIS GLORY! STOP CRYING AND MOVE ON!! Next you're gonna say"oh you're some immature kid" , WRONG!!! I have lost 7 friends, 5 of em I've sat next to them on their deathbed. I've stared the reaper in the face myself, I mean sure it wasn't in glorious combat just a measly car accident, but you dont see me going around preaching how I hate life. It's idiots like you that go and turn into Dr. Phil and pretend to help with peoples problems, whilst actually making their life miserable because he himself has had a shockingly tragic life.
