How do Clerics do it?

Hi everyone! b:victory
I am currently baffled at my economic situation. Seeing that I have no where else to rant, I shall do a little complaining here.
I am level 58 Cleric, hybrid build, and am struggling to simply keep my books balance.
Here are the figures after grinding for 3 levels:
In one hour of grinding, I burn about 140k mp, which is about 62k coin (@ 0.44coin/mp) My repair bill is about 30k/round. Hence, the expense totals to about 92k.
In one hour of grinding, I am able to kill roughly 250 monsters. According to certain databases, the chances of dropping DQ items, for the specific monster I am grinidng, is about 13.72% for a DQ item of 2.15k and 8.15% for a DQ item of 2.5k. In theory, I should make about 124k/hr. In reality, for some odd reason, I make about 100k/hr. Hence, the revenue totals to about 112k coin ( the average of theoretical and experimental).
What does all that mean?
Well, from 1 hour of grinding, I roughly make about 20k. Ha.
So, after three treacherous levels, I decided to try another method.
Partying.
Here is what I found:
Advantages of partying: 1) You get to fall asleep on the job. 2) You rarely have to tick your charm. 3) Your expsense is roughly 0.
Disadvantage: Ha. Where should I start. First of all, what bugs me the most is that it took me 58 friggen levels to find out that PW is in no way a "partying" MMORPG. Partying severely decreases your exp. And the extra kill rate rarely compensates for the decreased exp. Secondly, the loot is not even shared. The person picking up the loot has a severely higher probability of obtaining the loot. What does that mean? While healing from afar, once your your BMS/BARB/ kills the monster, they loot, they get. Finally, since the amount of exp has decreased, questing will never give you enough exp to gain a level. In fact, at my current level, questing usually brings me to about 40%. After that, resort to grinding for 20k/hr.
I was just wondering, How do clerics manage to survive.
I am 2 levels from 60, meaning I get new weapon (400k) and new skills (400k). At my rate of earning coins, it will take me.... hmmm 40hrs of grinding? No. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Please enlighten me, and give me hope.
Thank You.

clerics are needed in everything which makes them expensive cause those things will kill ur mp charm, im an archer rarely needed and dont needs charms or pots(but i survive with low hp ands lots of mana while grindin ^^)
the pt thing, i belive it benefits when u got a few or full squad while grindin because the exp will come in so fast with all killing ,much faster exp than solob:victory
the distribution of items between squad mates(if random distribution)
i find it that most ppl that pick up the loot (not coins) dont get it idk if its me or its u :P
i lvl my skills slowly, money aint the problem i dont have enough sp is usually it0 -
Make friends with a BM.
Have them AoE grind 10-15 mobs for you while you hover over them and heal them.
You'll be making great exp/loot money trust me.
I'm a BM always wanted to Squad with a cleric when AoE grinding xD
A cleric will basically just do nothing but heal a bit here and there which helps a lot to a BM.
Cleric in AoE grinding Squad with BM = Less Charm used = Long run Money saver.Bringing fear and widespread random deaths into the Harshlands, that is my goal..

Have you tried Focus Powder instead of charms? That'd be somewhere between 18k-24k per hour for 6 pieces (if you buy them instead of gathering Crane Herb and Salvia Root). 5 pieces if you use them wisely and supplement them with potions or Jade Powders.
If you're only getting 20k per hour though... that's... weird. I usually get at least 80k in DQ drops from, say, Foxwing Supremes in that time. o_O If all else fails, harvest herbs and mats and sell them for your Focus Powder money.
What I'm saying is... don't get addicted to charms. -_-
EDIT: What are you grinding on, anyway!? That's a pretty damn high repair bill. o_O
EDIT 2: 50 MP / second x 60 sec/minute x 60 min/hour = 180k MP. That's how much an hour's worth of focus powder would give you... at maximum. Of course, this doesn't happen in combat, so if you spent every second of that hour in combat it'd go down to 45k. You balance this by meditating every so often; 30 seconds out of combat should restore most of your MP.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Okay, lvl 86 Cleric here...as for my build, I've got enough vit to give me 2400+HP (with gear) and 9400+MP (with gear).
So...yes, you've discovered cleric is expensive. First...you need to consider this...the higher your magic attack, the faster you kill mobs. That means faster grinding and less damage to your armor. That means lower repair bills. That means you need to work on raising your MP and magic attack, and that will help you save some money.
Next, look at your gear itself. For cleric it's really important to keep you gear, including weapon, the best that you can get. Better gear = faster kills, better protection...again, saving money and making the grinds faster.
Also...consider what type of mobs you're killing. Idea mobs are any damage over time WOOD poison mobs. With a good purify, you can easy make one ironheart last through 2 or 3 mobs...and they'll die fast. Physical mob grinding is going to really rock your gear and give you high repairs. A few hours of zhenning and you'll learn that physical mobs cost you more. Try to stick to wood mobs for faster, easier grinding...and at least magical mobs. Also FLYING mobs generally give you better XP and often better drops. So research a bit about the best mobs for you at your level. Don't forget to try to find a good magic mob that also has an hourly quest.
I can easily burn through a gold MP charm per day, given TT runs, fbs, boss fights, etc. Higher MP means I use my charm less often...so I can kill a few mobs before I even tick my charm at all.
Grinding flying wood mobs...from about lvl 75+ and the orchid petallis from before that...I can easily make about 100k-200k profit per hour.
It really is about your gear, the mobs, and your stats."there is a majority of people I can't here stand anymore. The skill level in TW has decreased dramatically. Frankly I am tired leading a TW of a bunch of idiots and morons. I outlasted my patience for them. I just can't waste anymore time here." ~Ehmi's leaving post.0 -

30k??? I've never had a repair bill that high with my ep. b:surprised I wonder why the high repairs.0 -
I have tried to conserve mp but just watching my buffs and powders/potions.
For one thing you should try to invest in armor that has some extra mp recovery, which should compliment well with the celestial guardian's seal buff.
Try not to use charms, espeically in grinding. Use focus powder or potions and meditate for a few seconds. This method will save you thousands in coinage.
And, finally, use some more economic spells on yourself and your party members. I have found that when you have only received a minimal amount of damage in combat, use wellspring surge. I have only lvl 4 of that healing blessing, but only take up 76 mp. Plus, you can stack that. All that amounts to not using nearly as much mp as max lvl ironheart. Also, in actual combat, try using attacks that don't take up as much mp. For example, in monsters that are easier to kill, use plume shot more often then say weild thunder.
Anyway, hope this helped somewhat and good luck. ^^[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

30K repairs per hour is too much for a cleric. 1 hours grind gives me a repair bill of 50K-60K at my level, and I am a melee class.
I think you're either:
a) Grinding on the wrong kind of mobs.
b) Not using the right sequence of attacks.
As already said as a magic user, avoid physical mobs. Post 60 most mobs will have magical attacks anyways so things should be easier.
You should use skills that slow down/stun mobs. The idea is to have the mob nearly dead by the time they reach you. Also try kiting mobs. It'll take a little longer and you kill less mobs, but you may just end up saving money from the lowered repair costs.
As far as partying goes, make friends with a BM/Barb (try a few, find one you can trust).
Make a party in free mode, let him pick all the drops and then divide the drops up later. PW is very much a partying game. If everyone in the party does their job, by that I mean Clerics heal (and don't waste mp in attacks) and BM/Barb aggros and DDs then the exp you get/hour will almost double.
Remember a barb can aoe grind and handle 5-6 mobs at a time if you have got his back. A BM will probably take on less but he can kill them faster. When the going gets tough; Get a tank!

Actually it DOES work in combat but you may cast so fast that you overwhelm the regen. Trust me, I make and use the powders all the time though a hit of Meditation makes it go into hyper drive mode.0 -

Learn and start making APOC items. Those alone will save you 100's of k a day. I mean 20 to 30 mins a day to get mats for 3 hours is not bad. I mean u can make items that give 2 3 6 and 9k MP over 30 sec's and not to fail to mention the event sesame items which give 3k MP over 10 sec and are on the same timer as a HP MP potion. I have currently 9k of those on my mage main. The focus powered keep my 7k MP light mage in mp just fine and with life powders or the powder that gives both HP and MP 50 every sec for 10 mins I can solo away and use the potions I get on drops to of set my healing's if need be.
I currently make around 300k a day just doing quests at lvl 71. And iwas making just under that around 250k per hour in my 60's. MP hieros are good but they are not the end all be all. I do Zhen parties with the sesame items and I never run out of mana just have to press a button every 10 secs or so haha. Many people get locked into MP hieros as clerics and I see there benefit but you have to know when to be using one and when not too. And my reapir bill every time I come in is around 5k or so . And that is with just my 70 mold weapon and mold pants rest is dropped gear. ( wishes I had my HH gear already) So you will notice hmm 50k to 100k per run 5k repair bill maybe 12k for more potions ( i keep 50 per in case well in case) and rest is profit.
And I do have a lvl 45 cleric so I know they are different then mages. OH 1 more thing. Focus powders and Life powders do not stack with your cleric buffs. Well they do but you can not see them on you. So if u hit a focus powder after u buff will look the same until your mana flies up. They also last 10 mins so you will notice that u lost the effect just use another powder.0 -
I just put lots into magic and invest in skills that are most usefull.I don't buy any armour except an odd piece here or there same with weapons.Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.0
-
I disagree regarding loot. I AoE grind with a cleric hours a day, when I loot most everything, she gets about 70% of the drops. All the time.0

well hey level 86 cleric here myself and well..it's an art of kinds
Being a cleric is an art of using everything you can around you and bragging for your rights. I myself rode heavily on mp regen, gathering everything with +mp regen i could and spending some time on resting that mp to save up on pots and charms. Being one of the first I was also lucky to get a spot in many fb runs and such which always need a good cleric, and at that time there wasnt much to choose from so i could quite decently ride over 60.
And when there was a need to do some grind (for grind quests mainly) it was a lot about kiting to actually avoid getting hit (cyclone ftw) . damage over time mobs are also an answer..but you gotta keep your purify up then.
Then the tt starts..and the part about bragging for your rights. All should be aware that clerics are rather expensive creatures to ride and help keep it working. S'why cleric are getting first/additional picks of drops to balance out the costs + getting pots thrown at sometimes. Coordinating heals with another and resting up a bit (take care not to make the tank pay price for your saving though! make sure YOU get the bragging rights b:laugh) to save on those mp stuffs is also an art, but there will be a lot of times when it will not be possible.0 -
your repair bill is wayyy too high...idk how thats even possible.
your squad doesn't kill fast enough. exp is not evenly divided by the number of squad mates, you in fact do get more exp assuming everyone doesn't failboat and sit idle. i mean one time i squadded w/ a faction barb and a veno to help them w/ this grind quest, and i just suggested killing everything on sight regardless of whether the quest needed it or not.
from that hour i gained 20% exp and sold over 100k in dq's. i mean this is a freaking barb, probably hitting at less than half my damage; but he contributed the best he could and look where it all got us. (lols think about what 3 archers could've done there...that spot would probably re-empty as soon as something respawns) do you think i could've made more exp alone? NO i couldn't have. no spawn point with that many mobs at the lvl 50's will allow an archer to kill them at a decent rate safely. they'll all aggro and respawn aggro and hurt and cause loss of time and pots. Squad members made it possible.
and if drop distribution turns out to be unfair, as i've heard clerics claim this sometimes, just ask for some evening out since you presumably made a big contribution healing everyone. i know if im squadding with faction mates or friends, i wouldn't want them to feel jipped.
and if ur too poor to buy charms for a TT run, i dun think its too much to ask for some chipping in, esp if ur running w/ friends and faction mates. 400k is a lot, divide that amongst a full squad and its not as bad, and God knows that blue bubble benefits all of us multiple TT runs over.0 -
Deppending on your build, Your MP shouldn't burn up to quickly for you to lose money.
I as a archer use MP and HP pots, they work wonderfully..I think its 38-58k I spend on pots while grinding, and make a fair ammount back. I have to pay for arrows to but I use the cheapest kind so thats not a major deal, Clerics have the upside to healing themself.
Try grinding on mobs in the air, you'll make a nice ammount of XP and DQ and at the same time prob spend less on pots due to your magic defense and the air mobs being magic. Also they drop a decent ammount of pots and lucky notes ectMaking new char..Which one? I have a BM..but I want more damage and stuff to do..
Experienced players contact with the cons n pros of there class and where to put points n what skills to up ASAP thanks..0 -
Don't use MP charm then? Get a lot of those event mp pots for low price and use them instead if you don't want to meditate.
Try to grind at Dawn's Cry. Heard that clerics (healers) loves to grind there because of all magic attacks and poisons and they have a really nice drop rate. Or grind on flying mobs - better exp and nice drops. Or kill Petalii Hexkiss (lvl61) - they also use poison and magic attacks and they are Wood mobs.
From my experience about grinding with cleric, seems they get more drops and drop rate even increases with them.0 -

1. Perfect World is MAINLY a party MMORPG. Don't know where you're coming up with your opinion.
2. Being in a party increases your overall exp gain. If you're getting less, your party sucks.
3. 20k an hour of grinding? I'd get more than that if I were grinding on green named monsters [lower drop rate because of level difference].
4. The person picking up the loot has no more of a chance than you to get the loot.
5. Once you fix whatever it is you are doing wrong [it has to be an obvious fix because I couldn't even TRY to have that bad of luck], I'll have you know it gets better and worse as you get higher level on a cleric. Your skills cost EXPONENTIALLY more. Your heiro usage goes up considerably since you need to do HH runs for your weapons/armor and you get to start zhenning [b:bye heiro]. Don't like PvP? Too bad, 60+ you get to start grinding in the swamps. Prepare to have a repair bill and more heiro **** from PvP.
Solution? Obviously the higher level you are, the higher the mobs are, and the higher level DQ is dropped = more $$$. Depending where you zhen, you may get A LOT of DQ [YKD zhen is GREAT DQ]. Pretty much, as a cleric, if you're not grinding, you're losing money. PvP? Lose money. HH [for gear, not profit]? Lose money. Go grind on mobs with white names or light orange names for best drops and don't do anything else unless you turn into a CS **** until you feel stable with your cash. Once you hit like 75+, go HH with some friends/guild and sell the mats for profit.0 -

1. PW caters to both solo and party mode players. Dungeons and world bosses/elites need groups (at level +some), but outside of that most of the game is soloable. XP half+a bit is an incentive to party, but it won't necessarily increase the amount of XP gained overall noticeably.
2. It can be a relatively minor increase (with respect to the amount needed to level) that amounts to not much unless you continually party all of the time, and not just for 20-30 minutes to finish a quest.
4. That's only if the party is in "group loot" mode where the recipient is determined randomly after it's been picked up, but if it's in "Free Loot" then the ranged caster will rarely get any drops if the melee pick it up first which is probably what is happening.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Clerics can be expensive. . but I currently have a level 37 cleric and i have noticed a few things that people complain about are simply not true
for starters, I have yet had the need to buy any sort of potion, they drop a plenty from mobs.
people complain about always having to repair. . ya, of course you will, but if you kite properly you shouldn't have outrageous costs
thirdly, people need to learn to focus on a few skills at a time, you can't go for everything at once, you will just end up broke on not only coin, but sp
and finally, for those of you who always need the next best weapon. . try and either see if you can get it to drop or try and manufacture it. . there are more then enough killing missions in the game, and as long as you hold onto your drops (trust me, its a good idea) you should always be within range of making that next weapon. . it saves soo much money making a weapon over buying it
well. . . well that's my two cents, good luck with everything : )0 -

I would advise getting a couple Exp scrolls andfarming lvl60 mats, each mat farmed will give you300 ESP and like 30-50 spirit.each lvl60 herb will give you like 150+ and some spirit, and you will make money in theprocess when you set up shop....trustme. Why beat down mobs when you can farm for a couple hours and gain great exp and money and save on mana?I luv my luvsalotb:dirty

yeah wut is up w/ clerics not kiting? i kite sometimes w/ my archer, i find kiting w/ wizard very necessary, i haven't played cleric yet but all i see is clerics standing there and taking it. is kiting just not possible b/c their cast times are too long or something? i mean cyclone doesn't seem to cast longer than gush, and w/ gush u can pretty much evade something and get hit like once or twice0

It is CRITICAL for parties that you do not let anyone more than 2 levels above you join your party or your XP loss will be dramatic. You should experience a 15% reduction to individual mob XP when your party levels are close, but your kill rate should nearly double (as a cleric with a DD compared to soloing.)0 -
Partying = more exp not less, don't know how you came up with that one.
Priests use tons of mp to cast attack skills and much less to do buffs, take the hint? You are supposed to support a blademaster or similar killing machine while they kill 4-5 mobs at the same time.
At lvl 60'ish drops suck and you are not going to getuber rich, wait till your 70's for some proper drops.
You don't need to use charms at 60, concentratin pwder provides you with +100 mp regen for 10 whole minutes at a time. More than enough mp for a regular grind and all you need is to pick some plants.0 -
buy herbs and make jade powders, can cost around 1k each, buy herbs and make apoth pots that give you 50-100mp regen per second, use gold MP charm0

Lvl 56 Cleric now and I am doing quite well financially. I have been able to get some ok wings, a spurred panther (guildy make spesjal prrrice for me ;P) and bank/inventory stones. Basically all I need apart from ok armor and skills.
Farming mats is a nice way to let your mp regenerate + earn some money which has helped me a lot.
Income has never been a problem for me, so now on to expenditures:
Skills: Yikes! They are expensive and there's a lot of them.
The cost of repairs for me is virtually 0. Just try to avoid melee damage at all costs. Squadding with someone really pays off when it comes to quests where you have to do melee mobs and it means you can go easy(/ier) on your mp. Otherwise, grind on flying wood poison mobs. Almost 0 damage here too, so 0 repairs. When finally, finally the time comes to repair my item, it is already outdated and I get myself a new one instead.
The cost for mp pots and charms for me is 0 too! How? Partly that I find that at the beginning levels you can do fine without pots so I have saved up quite a lot. I probably won't run out of them until lvl 65++.
And now comes a part that maybe is only useful for me: have a busy life outside PWI. I can't play very much unfortunately but so far it has also been a little advantage. It means my Crazy stone quest/grinding xp ratio is incredibly high. Up to level 60, CS is a really cheap way of getting xp/sp without using any time, potions or repairs. At lvl 56 I still have 17 quest chains to complete so I have never had to grind for my levels yet! This obviously has given me a load of potions and powders to spare.
Also because of me being busy, I tend to switch-play this game: Blast all of my mp empty on the mobs, sit down and meditate while reading some articles etc. and then repeat till I'm done.
So basically: level slowly in real-life time (60 lvls in 3 months b:surrender) but save yourself time and money in-game. I guess my lifestyle fits a cleric very well. If your main goal is to level fast, maybe better play a veno. Otherwise try to have fun with your preferred class, take your time/don't rush your levelling (I usually find mmorpgs the most fun in the beginning levels) and don't spend money on charms.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
