on your weapon? yeah, magic attack would work best. as for your armor, hp gems work best there imo, though people tell me putting a few upper leveled pdef gems work well in combination.

That is my intention in the near future. While HP does help for both magical and physical mobs, the only mobs clerics will have any real problem with are the physical mobs (especially aoe physical damage bosses).

I'll be putting a combination of garnet and citrine shards on my gear, and hoping to make up some hp defecit by refining each piece to +2 as well.

One thing people often forget is that with garnet shrads your ability to stack IH, or be healed by BB against physical mobs increases too. If you have 2600hp and a bosses aoe is hitting you for 1600, you wont be doing as well as if you have 2200hp and the aoe is hitting for 1250. Proportionally its the same, but there is less to heal with the phys def option.

This is just my opinion and I am certainly not experienced enough to say that you should or should not go in either direction, merely that this is the choice I am making.

Good luck to you in what you decide.

If you use robes then I would say a combination of both p-def and hp gems. If you are LA Cleric then put only hp ones. As for the weapon, well I don't consider the 100 more m attack a great difference (at least that's how I feel so far) so I usually prefer to put hp gems on the weapon too.

Later on you will, or if you have more then 1 slot you will put m.attack gems.
Armor for the first lv's only hp gems, cause the psy def dont give you much, but later they give you nice bonus.

I usually lean more toward the Pdef gems, with a 3:1 Pdef an HP shard ratio. Its allowed me to survive all of the physical aoe bosses so far in dungeons/TTs while I hear horror stories from other clerics. For the magic aoe's I just swap change to gear that has more of that particular element resist.

Hp all the way for me (put some pdef in hat and cloak but idk why really). 3800hp with a barb buff is enough to live through any and all boss aoes I've come across (highest tt runs I've done are 1-3/2-2 so far). If you start getting **** by a physical mob plume shell does the job quite nicely. If it weren't for plume shell I'd say pdef, but this way.. hp <3

Personally, I would go with HP shards in my armor.

Why? Because, in addition to my robes, I wear phys def accessories (belt and necklace) so I'm not quite so squishy when Archers come PKing! And... the percent of damage reduction I get from mag def accessories is an extra 1-2%, where I can easily get an extra 5-10% damage reduction with a good phys def accessory. So... take home message here: if my lack of phys def is made up for somewhat using my accessories, I can get a lot of easy HP using shards. That means I live longer!

But what level of HP shard is best on a limited budget? I'm tempted to say G5 or G6, but I am not sure. Any input in this area would be much appreciated!

The best thing for shards right now is the Jolly event! The price has fallen but better to test your luck with Mr. Jolly (today's last day).

As far as the G5 or G6....up to you personally if you are getting the Beautiful shards from Jolly, I might consider saving them for later bc 4 = 1 Flawless b:pleased

There is not too much of a difference with the G5 and G6, so up to you as to how much more HP you want. The advantage you have right now is that there is a good market because so many people have them! Stock up!!

Although HP is really important but physical gems is much more important in PVP.The dmg you could tank is not very high in PVP or TW so you'll have to boost up physical defense in order to live. When you have so many people on you hp shards doesn't really help you anymore. You have to depend on plume shell and best to avoid attack and let charm ticks when you out of plume shell. You could always refine the equips to add the hp which most of the equips will add hp when refine(except weapon, ring neck, belt) and it gets to really high hp at high lvl refines so you could depend hp on that also.
    (You can't survive 2-3 boss aoe which 3.8k hp.Acient Evil aoe 5.5k with bubbleb:surrender)

I used HP Shards up until the past 2 levels now. I purified all my equipment and added P-def shards to everything. I took an insignificant drop in my HP, overall. Still too early for me to say whether I prefer the P-def shards or not yet however I can say they have proven to be worthy so far. I noticed my HP charm tick more with the HP Than with the P-Def so far.. and now there are a lot more Physical mobs at this level I feel the P-Def shards are a little more practical for grinding.. as well as those nasty bosses who have Phys AoE's.

However.. HP or P-Def.. As always it comes down to the players skills, stats and play style.

And for some of us who's priorities are a little.. askew..

Do you like to glow purple or orange?

choice between them on robes is decided on 1 thing and 1 thing only: do you plan on refining or not. refining gives a LOT more hp than an affordable gem could ever offer. if you plan on +5ing everything you're wearing, go ahead and use pdef shards.

I'm at 3025 hp right now, no phys shards, only hp ones, and I survive very nicely through 3-1 as well as the ones you have mentioned.
