Great, another event that hurts the economy.

Please tell me if this sounds familiar...
1) PWI adds a quest where players can trade in a cheap cash shop items for high rewards
2) Players buy gold in bulk to exploit the quest
3) The price of gold rises to meet demand
4) The price of everything in coins rises to realign with the new price of gold
Am I talking about the Duke Rose exploit that destroyed the economy last month or am I talking about this latest event that PWI added this week? I grant that the effect of the GA's is much less severe but on Sanctuary gold prices have risen by 40% over the previous overly high value.
It just seems callous of PWI to add an event which is guaranteed to increase the price of gold after all the damage to the economy caused by the Duke Rose exploit.

so many threads of these.. fail..Bringing fear and widespread random deaths into the Harshlands, that is my goal..

Death Note Rule #18
A god of death cannot be killed even if stabbed in his heart with a knife or shot in the head with a gun. However, there are ways to kill a god of death, which are not generally known to the gods of death.0 -
There was no exploit in this event.
You don't have a valid argument.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Wait a week or a few. It'll probably balance itself back out with the main bulk of the event gone.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

I've abstained from the board for a few days ^^
In any case, yes the exploit was unintentional and this event was intentional but they had similar effects just of different degrees.
I don't blame players for selling gold, I blame PWI for introducing a "duke-rose lite" event.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

They is not the same.
They is not similar.
They is not comparable.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

The duke rose exploit drove the price of gold up due to players selling the item to NPCs. The coin was being created out of thin air - equivalent to counterfeiting, that is those exploiting the bug were doing the equivalent of stealing a little bit of coin from everyone.
The current event is driving the price of gold up due to players selling the items to each other. The coin is coming from the same in-game sources it has always come from. Those spending the coins feel they're getting a good value for it, there's no stealing going on.
So no they are not having a similar effect on the economy, only on gold prices.0 -
The Halloween event was similar to this one.
The Halloween event had the same effect on gold price. It raised to 120-130k.
After the Halloween event, price of gold dropped back to it's regular price.
Chances are the same will happen again after this event.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thanks Brit for the sig b:laugh0 -
true, however, the halloween event made up for it by having the kewl jones' blessing[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
We could all learn a lot from crayons, some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names (like chartreuse), and all are different colors....BUT they ALL exist very nicely in the same box!0 -
also, you don't need to buy a single gold to participate in the event. The items that are driving up gold prices are mostly the scarlet fruits and oracles, wich will run out quite quick, so the gold prices will go back down a lot quicker.0

On mine, spurred panther mounts are selling for 1.5mill, same as before. 20 gold flying mounts are selling for 1.8mill, same as before. Training Scrolls are about 50k, same as before. Material prices remain the same. etc... etc... etc...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

aye this effect of the event is small in comparison to the food(this effect is being hugely overlooked by most atm) and oracle event though0 -

I love when people give their personal virtual misfortune a global scale. You really do believe that when you're having it bad- everybody has it bad, don't you?0

Mostly this is just me expressing frustration at trying to buy cash shop items with coin (I spent 10 mins yesterday looking for a lousy tele -_-). You guys have excellent points of how this event is fundamentally different and I withdraw my earlier comparison but reserve the right to be frustrated.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Please, don't be fustrated. Improvise.
I am a leach on this game since I don't spend money on it. However, I will not complaint about gold prices, events, cash shopers, ect.
Why? they are the ones allowing me to play. It's true they need me probably as much as I need them. but never the less they are the ones bringing the gold I need to purchase to buy items that I cannot purshase with regular coins.
I think is more rewarding getting something by grinding that by paying for it. Just my opinion.0 -
Christmas event ruined mirage celestone forever (from 32k to 20k now) months after the event the prices havent realigned. I sold a scarlet fruit for 115k one day before the event and now i can find it for 30k. Before christmas event it was worth like 150k. It was always a very crappy item anyway, youd have to be really rich to buy it.
I agree ppl dont realize how insanely good the new food event items are. Cheapest i found em were 180 for hp and 200 for mp. They're roughly 2x as good as lv 70 pots (lv 70 mana pot 1600 mana, sesame 3000), available from lv 25, and costs more than 7 times less with the same cooldown. Merch your pots and stock up on these. Although I believe there are so many that the supply will be huge for a while.0 -
Its interesting. I had 2 people who originally came from the my-en server telling me last night how messed up the economy is here cos gold prices are so low. Apparantly over there they are about 500 coins per gold and normal item prices such as dq items are about the same as here but more people buy them.
Now to me a lower coin to cs gold ratio feels better but its all down to what you are used to i guess. Maybe these people are right and the price of gold needs to go up instead of down? Until we see it I guess I'll not know for sure but maybe the people crying about how messed up the economy here is cos gold is going up are wrong and pwi are right in pushing up the price.
Anyhow less crying more fun please!0 -

This event is actually having a deflationary effect in general, as a fair number of people are selling off lots and lots of spare stuff to buy more GAs/Gold/pots. 20k is a little low, however. I sold all of mine at that price, over a few days, and the whole stack was usually bought all at once shortly after I set up the shop. I'd estimate the going rate as closer to 21k-22k atm, at that price you'll see them in shops (they aren't instantly sold), but I think people will still buy.
I know I'll be re-buying at that price (if not higher) after the event, once I sell some of these pots for more like 500 each.
That deflation is compounded by the drop in demand as a bunch of mid-high levels leave for the new server, for example, -3% chan gear is cheaper (sleeves, at least), TT 60 mats are falling in price (although some of that is just more venos farming 1-1), a lot of CS stuff is falling in price as people try to convert it back into cash (fashion, mounts, etc).0 -

umm... can't actually blame the x'mas event for drop in mirage price. the dragon orb sale week should have pushed the price back up, had not so many venos reach lvl 60+, and started farming TT mats as a source of income. TT drop tons of mirages.... b:victory
and lots of pple are buying them at 25k now, if u noticed...0 -

If we get to 500k coins per gold, then a gold charms will be 2m each in game, unless players charge real money for them there is no other way a player can afford them. same apply to all CS items. I do not know how many players will left in this game when it becames reality. Higher coins to gold exchange rate do give PWI more income for sure, but it has to be at a reasonable rate. Like it or not, this game need those non-spending players, unless PWI knows it for sure cash spending players are enough to fill up the server. I personally do not believe that.0 -

actually mirage price was dropped from 35k to below 20k in less then 24 hours as x'mas event started. I personally still have hundreds of mirage in my bank. so x'mas event is the cause of mirage price drop, and we would not see mirage sell for 30k+ in next few months if it will ever happen.0 -
Right on Varizo! Those damn snowmen dropped so many mirages the prices of celestones dropped in that week.0
-
I know its easy to say but
Try to play without cash shop items if these events and such bother you.
Oh yeah, that was easy.
Try to find other valid points why to play this game, not just because of cash shop items.
If the only thing what this game does is teaching you how to pay your bills then maybe its time to move on.0 -

You guys are on different servers and yes on sanctuary mirages are at LEAST 25k each and has been that way since dragon orb sale.0 -

Seriously guys, what do you expect? No events will make things boring. Can you guys design an event that is completely flawless?0
