To write or not to write.....

To write or not to write is my question for you all.

I totally support the idea of a writing contest. It would give me something to read while I am at work and relaxing during a long stressful day.

I know there will be people saying that it is not fair because english is not their mother tongue and have issues writing lengthful posts. The truth is, you can't make everyone happy so even if you can't write fully there is not reason why not to try and/or enjoy the fun reading some of Perfect Worlds great authors hiding in the shadows.

Please do write. The trolls have been getting hungry lately since the GM's keep destroying their habitat.

A writing contest would be wonderful, after all it would be nice for those of us who can't do so well in the artistic calendar contest. Story creators are sure to love this, as will readers. I'm in full support.

Wow, I didn't think my one little post would spawn its own thread!

I would love a writing contest. It would be a fun way for people to create stories about the world the game gives us. We could even have a monthly contest based on prompts. In any case, that's my idea, whether or not it actually happens.

Then don't participate if you don't want to. People do art for PWI, writing is a form of artistic expression as well and those who are better at writing than drawing or doing digital manipulation's might find such a contest more up their alley.

I think it's a great idea with potential to have some decent stories come out of it.

I think.................it's a good idea but will take PWI staff ages to actually judge a winner. I don't see this contest being held monthly, just because it's so much work to READ so many entries. It's not as easy as LOOKING anymore.

And also I already see a lot of favoritism and discrimination complaints on the horizon about grammar, literacy, literary merit vs. slapstick funny, etc......

Holding it as a contest would not work that well for the above reasons. just doing it because you want to will be better. Try to put in one thread. I want to see if you can make a new record for largest thread in PW history. So lets see what you've got.

Most of what you say I do sorta agree with. In theory though, I think the concept of some form of writing competition would be worth trying out (at least once). To work around some of the issues that you along with others have mentioned we could limit the format of the type of writing to submissions like a Haiku verse or a short poem less then 100 words.

Let me think on this a bit and we'll see if we can launch a contest along the lines in the next month or two.

If it was limited to SHORT stories, like 1000-2000 words, I think it wouldn't be that hard to judge. I don't like to write poetry so I really hope you will allow prose as well. :)
