Well..... I think the close range and long range doesn't really make a different. I think like at least 70% - 80% (Maybe) use bows or crossbows. What I matter is how far and how fast to kill a target before coming at you.0

thats not the point, ingame minimum range is 5m for bows, i think 4.5m for slingshots.
u can fire a slingshot at someone's face from 1m away and it'd hurt0 -

If you are 1m away from some1, your arrow won't even fly off the bow. Shortest effective range is like 4m, but that's still relatively close ingame, it doesn't look as far away as it is irl.0

ya its a "dead zone" WoW used to have a similar thing for its hunters, but instead of 50% dmg u couldnt atk at all...(But WoW also gave hunters freeze traps/pets/scatter shot/ and decent melee atks, also wow removed the Dead zone with Burning crusade)
Anyways I dont agree with the dmg reduction, Archers are one of the best pk classes...thats a given. But for those of us who play on the carebear servers we mainly have to settle for duels to get our blood lust taken care of lol
ok in most duels u already start in close range (on top of that most nubs run up on u during count down) so we're lucky to get 1 shot off before our dmg is reduced...on top of that I noticed knock back shot doesnt work during duels... so ya for dueling melee classes, we're fked
I dont mind the 50% thing in pve, since i can almost always kill something before it gets to me, and for TW it wont matter...but id like to see it removed for dueling0 -
Jesus seriously.. no matter how much they improve any class in any game people will always find something to complain about.
We already are a pwnage class.. what else do you guys want? Like keeping distance is sooooo hard if you can't do it otherwise.. this is an archer, they are no tankers in any of the mmos[okay.. exceptions] learn to kite effectively or roll an EA on a private server if you dont like it.. honestly0 -
I agree with acid. We are already a good class already. We could assist other people or train on your own. We don't really need more damage just because of of the short range. If you don't really like the short range then use close combat classes like barbarian, venemoncer or warrior. Maybe you can be a wizard, I don't know what you want to be.0

yeah archers kick **** anyway!
in TW i have been told that the hald damage doesnt really play much effect...so i am fine with half damage in PVE as i can also kill the mobs before they get to me!0 -

lol if you guys think that the damage reduction is unfair go play a wizard see the real unfairness see how mobs even magical) 3-4 sometimes 2 hits get the jop done even..
I played an archer and wow what took me 1-2 hours to finish in my wizard it took my archer half an hour now thats my freinds is true unfairness..
I must say compared to a mage weither you are talking pve or pvp this class is a breeze so stop complaining about a stupid damage reduction that still makes you hit as hard as BMs and also you have winged shell use that..formerly known as mosabi-heaven's tear..
you know that wizard that kicked your **** b:victory..

I think that as archers we should have a trap skill it would be very usefull and another melee skill which knocks them back because it takes awhile for knockback arrow to recharge. However it isnt that much of a big deal to have theese skills but i think a trap skill would be awsome because in games like Guild wars and Wow they have trap skills for there archers and they rock!!0

-->Personally I am a Guild Wars veteran and Archers there use traps yes.
NOTICE: Traps there are only used in PvE for farming purposes only or special tactics but in normal PvE they fail. Archer spikers are far more effective. Traps there are never used for PvP purposes with the exception of Heros' Ascent builds or GvG builds. Archer spikers win again there.
-->I played WoW for a while too and can say that traps there aren't needed much in PvP there are always better ways to defeat your opponent in PvP. There are exceptions yes.
As for the Perfect World. I am an Archer here too and I can say that they are completely fine and need to further improvements at all. Surely not traps. There are many other unique ways to defeat your opponent.0 -
i'm sorry but if i gave u a bow and arrow in real life and sent an ape at you (resembles eldergoth) and had him get in your face, dry humping your bow and slapping you in the face...i doubt you would be doing much damage either b:surrender

u know, i read most of this thread and i end up wondering, are we argueing that archers should not have the 50% dmg reduction for close range because its unfair or just because it doesnt make sense in real life?
if we are argueing about the latter then there is 1 response, why are u playing a game? real life physic and logic means nothing for a game, the game can be based on physic and logic and w/e but they do not HAVE to do it >.>
now if we are arguing that archer should not have the minimum range because its unfair....why do u have wingspan, winged pledge, lightning strike, thunder shock, and thunderous blast for? a cool looking icon for your shortcut bar?(they do look nice there for me <.< >.>)

Does anyone know differently?
For range, in early levels, you can create a combo with take aim and quick shot and you can kite (where you shoot and then run and then shoot and then run and so on...). Make sure you hold down your move key before quickshot completes or you will not kite properly. Later on, you get frost arrow and other skills and this gets easier.
to be honest I couldn t master the running and shooting > < mobs would normally reach me XD I ended up using attack, attack, knockback, attack, stun attack XD0 -
I switch to Fists (I have some special fists with nice critical %) when someone is at minimum range and I punch them and put my winged pledge and other winged skills to good use.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
