Hi guys. I keep hearing that the frog is a good pet for magic def. But how is the attack? And If anyone has a froggy could they sell it to me? I'm in Heavens tear :p

It's a pretty good all-around pet, although I think your general-use pet will wind up being something more centered around phys def (golem, cub, etc). Its attack is somewhat above average. Better than most pets, but nothing spectacular like the golem.

Easiest place to buy one is off the auction house. Go find the Auctioneer (there's one in each starting city). Search in the filters under Pet Eggs -> All Class Pets (yeah, PWI screwed up the label). It's the first pet under that tree list.

Asking prices seem to average about 300-400k, though I've seen it dip as low as 250k and even 200k once. There are almost always several on auction, and they're rarely bid on so you'll probably be the only bidder. Make sure you highlight any item that you're thinking of bidding on and read the full description, as sometimes high-level eggs come up for auction. If you're level 25, a level 65 frog egg does you no good.

You'll probably want to give it the Bash skill at some point. Its default skill set is rather poor at keeping aggro. That'll cost you 300k.

It's a good pet. I tested it against a same level cub same skill and it was a close win for the frog so close it could have gone either way. The mag def makes it a good puller if not your main tank later on. It's damage is around 70% of a golem, but delivered slightly faster.

I had to add more damage skills to it for agro but not unusual for most pets. He's never a pest and very quiet. Easily my favorite pet to work with.

*Forgot to mention his default skill mist is worthless so plan to do something there IMO

I asked this before somewhere but it didn't get answered: why is Toxic Mist, or for that matter, any of the elemental attack skills, considered worse than Bash? They deal the same damage except in a different form.

There seems to be a hidden aggro score associated with these skills. For example, Pierce, which only does regular attack damage but lowers the mob's p.def for 15 sec, generates a fair bit of aggro in itself. Bash and Flesh Ream seem to generate more aggro than the other attack skills. On the barbarian board, the speculation is that Roar actually wipes any built up aggro and puts the barb/pet on top. So they recommend only using in it emergencies, since an archer or nuker who hits the mob right after a Roar can easily surpass the barb's aggro.

If it were based solely on damage, there is no way my pet could tank. By my calculations, my spells do 2x-4x as much damage as even my golem does over a given period of time.
