edited March 2009 in Official Announcements
Really sorry for the delay, but for the month of March I strongly feel that it was worth the wait. Like last month the volume of submissions were tremendous and the judges were very pleased to see the overall bar of quality raised to the next level. This month's submissions also saw a great variety in terms of style and tone. Great work all around from everyone!

The 5 winners featured below will receive their Dragon Orb Packs upon completion of server maintenance taking place this week.

Stay tuned as later this week we will announce details for the APRIL Calendar Design Contest as well as providing the requisite calendar creation kit. We will also feature a dozen or so 'semi-finalists' that again, were within one or two judging votes away from being a prize winner.

Much thanks again to EVERYONE who participated and we hope that you all can enjoy and make use of these designs.

To really show off these images we've decided to enable image linking in this forum on a trial basis. As long as this feature isn't abused we will likely make image linking in 'General Discussion' a permanent feature of this forum. Please use it appropriately.

Please check out our official winners announcement page at:

http://pwi.perfectworld.com/event/eventsubpage/winners-announced---march-calendar-creation-contest-1831

There, you can also see the Top 9 Runner Ups who all came very close to finishing in the Top 5.

You can also view and download these images (different size formats available as well) at our official Wallpaper Downloads page:

Here are the winners for March (in alphabetical order of the Player's in-game name):

well, just my opinion, but i dont think cool one same person winning the event all months, or the event is created for designers only? im just saying it cause i think that others ppls will never have a chance to win.

and this is not envy of the winners, (some works are really cool),this is for competition purposes, just a idea

I think that's a fair point, but I also think that Semy's design is very deserving of the award.

The third winner is a clear example that you can win even if you are not a designer (no offence Ryujin_Jakka)

Same person won twice? IMO that shouldn't happen. Give someone else a chance. Can we assume because this person may be good and do an entry like this every month that they will always receive a prize?

Make it so the same person can't win two months in a row. It's really unfair on everyone else that thought they'd done well. Grats to the other winners.

People are going to be runners up now that probably should've won instead of the same person as last time.

Agreed, it's formal complaint time AGAIN PWI...
It's unfair (no offence to Semy as she just did it for the craic) but the winners of last month should be exempt from winning the next month. Damn this is favouritism, just because you like her sort of design?
Well, I know what to do to win next month, make a Semy clone piece 'cos obviously the GMs have something for her (wouldn't blame you, classy chick there), but waayyy to go! Make one player uber-rich in-game too THE WOMAN HAS A BLACK RAPTOR FOR PETES SAKE!
Oh and ANOTHER thing, one of those designs is a virtual clone of one of last month's winners, just a stock image taken and whack some green stuff around it, jeez at least my design had imagination.
B UUUUU Judges, I no longer respect you the way I used to.

Give other people a fair chance, or people will stop submitting as many entries, and start submitting tickets, I know I will.

True, but like I sad, we know what design to use for April. Hell I already have most of the brushes Semy and other people here are using, I just decided to be ORIGINAL (*shock horror*) but apparently they know what they like and stick by her.

If Semy wins April's too. I'm quitting PWI and bringing in a lawyer...

I know that the staff of PWI is busy and it must have been quite a large number of submissions to review. Just as a suggestion, perhaps in the future, you could make the deadline for submissions a week or so before then end of the month. That would give you time to select the winner and announce it on the 1st of the month. It would also allow everyone to pick their favorite calendar and use it for their desktop for the whole month. Just food for thought--enjoy!

Don't know if PWI staff will have a rule against a person winning multiple contests. But this reminds me of the raffle I was participating in a week ago. One person was chosen like 7 times, but he declined after 2 prizes.

If there is no rule against the same winner, then it is basically up to Sem if she wishes to continue.

The GMs have quite clearly stated in the previous thread that winners can win again, and we're not happy about it.
Semy shouldn't feel the need to do anything other than take her prize and be happy, it's the GMs that should rethink that rule as I'm pretty sure 90% of people think it's a bit unfair to have the same people win.
I especially think it's unfair as these are prizes worth quite a lot of cash to some people.

I think she should be able to win twice. Semy put an enormous amount of time and effort to do the first one AND THEN A SECOND ONE. They are two distinct entries, and should be judged as such. Not only that, but because these are two DIFFERENT CONTESTS, she should be able to win twice. Or three times. Or multiple times depending on how many pieces she decides to do, which are each separate and distinct.

Plus they are just overall awesome, interesting, aesthetically pleasing, unique, and fun to look at. Nice job Semy.

Plus, this rule has been in effect since the first contest. And only now it becomes an issue?

Nevermind that probably another 50 or so people put JUST as much effort and time into their designs? They're not different designs, it's simply manipulating brushes and images into a way in which looks good. It's really not the hardest thing in the world to do. Yes, it takes time and effort but so does everyone elses, just remember that.

I think you are missing my overall point though. My main argument is that she submitted two entries. two distinct entries. for two different contests. The contests should be judged on merit, not favoritism. I believe it was judged on merit. Take away the names, and it is a beautiful piece worthy of a prize, regardless if she won last time.

By entering into the contest, we all agreed to the rules. And yes, we all put a lot of effort into our designs, every single one and I totally understand that. I'm just saying, this is a totally separate entry from the first, and should be judged as such (which it was).

No offence, but they're not THAT distinct?
You want me to put something together like that? Gimme a couple of hours and access to Google. I worked for fracking hours putting my piece together, much like the other hundreds of people that entered.
It's not that she didn't put effort in, it's that she's just going to win again and again cos some GM fancies her...

LMAO. Just when i tot i saw it all on these boards now we have threads where people are arguing about art for art's sake? Man what is next a debate about superior wine and cheese pairings? haha i guess these forums are evolving though if discussions are now headed in that direction. sure beats the daily tedium of PVP epeen flex threads. b:pleased

You have great potential for your calendar photos. You have one weakness in all your photos and that there is just to much going on in them. For a simple example your February Cupid photo. If you were to remove the red hearts above the horseman and the girl it would be a little less cluttered.

I do like all your ideas though. Just spread so many great ideas out into more photos.

This is a cool contest to see so many peoples talents and visions.

Wow...only the first reply I saw was one that didn't have any jealousy in it. I understand your point and all, but the judges are the judges. It doesn't matter whether YOU think you should win, or she should win. If the judges like your piece better than hers, you'll win, otherwise, you won't. BTW, to all that say she's being selfish, don't you think you are being selfish in saying that SHE has to quit next round? Everyone should have an equal opportunity to win, no matter whether she won the last one or not. BTW, when you write your replies, do it with a little less hostility...you are making someone else feel bad when she did nothing wrong then enter in the contest. And another thing....you probably just ruined her chances of winning the next ones, because the GMs will obviously not pick her next time due to all this **** about the same person winning twice.

o________o Holy-- What the hell? Um.. Wow, I'm pretty speechless. My guild leader already told me there was a lot of hate going about this topic, but holy ****. This is just.. o_o"

It still won't make me refrain from entering next month, though. I like doing these calenders. I like hunting for resources, thinking up the entire thing, etc. I don't care what next month's prize will be, I don't care if I win or not. I just like the fact that I have a REASON to do things in Photoshop.

So everyone who enters next month, good luck and I hope you win. b:bye

Yea, I did. I'm not doing it now because I "know I can win". I do it because I've been making graphics for the past six years and you don't want to know how hard it is to just open the program and start making something. I use this contest as an excuse. I like showing my dad what I made. He does these things as a job. I love him telling me how I've done a good job, or try to make it better when he criticizes. THAT'S why I make graphics.

I'm going to have to ask you all to please stop attacking certain individuals for winning this month's Calendar event.

In this case, Semyezza has done nothing wrong. She abided by all rules, entered her submission in time and created another stellar design that 15 out of 19 judges voted in their top 5 (good for 3rd best overall if you want to know the details).

Here are some comments I recently made concerning this issue in a locked thread:

"Also, while I do understand some of the users frustrations with seeing repeat winners - at this time the judging panel feels that this is not an issue. Please keep in mind that the point of this contest is to present the BEST user made Calendar Wallpaper for all of our community members to appreciate and utilize. It's really not fair to single out a particular individual on the basis that there designs were good enough to win 2 months consecutively. If such logic were applied in the real world the what would the Olympics be like if previous medal winners were prohibited from entering again or if a Superbowl winning Football team was not allowed to compete for the title again?

Restricting previous winners from entering future events is not fair in events/contest such as these which are based entirely on SKILL and TALENT. If this particular contest were based around mere luck or chance then I suppose I could buy into some of the 'unfairness' complaints."

remember, this contest is based on TALENT not luck.

I have to point out that I did not have jealousy in my opinion. I am happy for all the winners and support the fact that there can be the same winner each month.

I hope the Lottery people do not listen to most peoples ideas. If you won before you can't win again. Imagine winning a free ticket and then not being able to win the money load. A bit over-exagerated?? Complaining about someones better picture winning over others is a bit much.

Now, if only I was a Photoshop guru I would design and get some gifts. I had no idea there were gifts. YEAH!!!

    Talent not luck.

So we can assume the best hand-drawn designers and the best photoshoppers will win every month and those who are still learning and trying will never win?

    Or should I rephrase that:
Can you please make sure it is clear that only enter if you are extremely talented at photoshop or drawing?

Hands up who's not entering April? b:victory
