problems with start

k i just downloaded the game. i updated everything on the patch, all the files are verified. but when i hit start, about 10 seconds later an error message pops up that i cant read because its just random letters and accents and stuff. the only option is "okay", so after i hit it, about a minute later, the patch closes itself. ive uninstalled and reinstalled the game 3 times now, and it still happens. can anybody help me out?

    Go to the Troubleshooting FAQ (Yes, I could link it for you but I like to make people run, and it really helps to read that stuff) on top of the Tech Support Zone and look for a guide to install East-Asian Language Pack.
    Most likely those random letters are supposed to be chinese, and after getting them to show as they're supposed to we could try deciphering them.

    Some people don't still have the CD (Like me b:chuckle) so what do you do then, i know someone who has this problem

    There are usually 3 cases:

    1) You have the CD.
    2) You have OS preinstalled so that you can install stuff without the CD.
    3) You have pirated you OS.

    Case 1 & 2, simple.
    Case 3, look into the mirror.

    In case you have lost your CD you can always borrow from a friend. Also I think you can fiddle around with your settings so that you can download the extra files from Microsoft's site instead of the CD. It requires you to have a legit Windows registration.

    I really don't think Perfect World Entertainment is responsible for people losing their OS install discs.

    Well, i understand that.
    But a lot of the help posts are like this one, they all say you need a disk.
    In which case i know many people have not actually got for several reasons e.g their computer never came with one.
    But with the problem my friend is having, A LOT of people have talked about this disk. He doesn't have it. The only way of resolving the problem is with the CD? or is it possible that there is a way to solve it with out it?

    PS :- The problem is an error in 'strange' letters which i don't think anyone has
    translated. I know many people have suffered from this, this would be a
    great help thread if someone was to know.

    To get the East Asian language packs for XP and earlier, you need a disc.

    You may also need to update your video drivers via your system manufacturer's website. Do that first, for video and motherboard updates.

    If you have tried that, try updating the video drivers for your video card/chipset.

    Install properly, reboot system.
    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    i read the other threads that have the answer of "download the east languages" well i did that. it didnt work - the same error message is coming up, still unable to read it. so obviously, that route doesnt work. something else has to be wrong.

    I'm going to need some more information from you. Go to Start, click on Run (or Search if using Vista), and type in dxdiag and press enter.

    Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device and Drivers boxes:

    Well according to that, you either don't have a video card installed or don't have any drivers for it installed. Once you rectify that you should be able to play, assuming your video card falls within the minimum system requirements at the bottom of this page.

    lol thanks.

    guess that means i have to call dell again.... i just got this laptop on the 4th... had to call the same day, then called again on sunday... finally got everything installed.... except the video drivers lol

    If you know the laptop's model, you should be able to find drivers on their website.

    Go to http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?~ck=pn and click on Drivers & Downloads. It'll ask you some questions, and when you've answered them it'll take you to the downloads page for your laptop. Download the video driver and install it and it should work.

    alright. theres two to choose from, so i downloaded both. the only problem right now is, neither will unzip all the way.
