I've played quite a few MMORPG's, but one of the things that I wasn't aware of yet was private servers. I always avoided them for numerous reasons, but some more than others. Some games which are still active can be affected by their creation and theft of property in a sense, because basically its taking someone's hard work and using it for profit or in even some cases, claiming it as one's own. The reason why this sparked a light bulb was simply because I had remembered of a mainstream game which had almost released source code information and server framework. When that happened, the dev's, representatives and other individuals who spoke for the company warned the individuals working on the project that as soon as it turned into an abuse of power and material that the project would be shut down, and if fraud occurred that those involved would pay a legal penalty. Recently I had been invited to a private server of the Perfect World under the website (link removed). What caught my eye is how the Administrator LMS was setting up a system to sell cubi-gold for a certain price in bulks via Paypal. This started to make me wonder whether or not this would spark a legal issue.

    Typically nothing happens, but there was one case a while back where a private server owner was taken to court and got a realife banhammer come crashing down on him, mainly as an example to others.

    Legal action isnt cheap, and can be troublesome given the international nature of mmorpg's so often private servers are ignored and/or warned with no real action taken.

    On a side note, i find most people who include links to private servers in posts such as this know the answer to their own question, but are simply trying to advertise their private server. Given your post count i'd say this is one of those cases. Edit the link if im wrong.

    Lol he already moved on to the next forum for his promotion on another version of this game, so wont be checking back or editing.


    btw. In b4 site edited + topic closed(?), or so I would hope.

    I won't change the link, simply because there is no reason to, however, I will assure you that this is not an advertisement, and that I would prefer that the "banhammer" is dropped in servers such as this, especially one taking advantage of such a thing and charging mass amounts of cash for their services.

    Just because I was specific about this particular location doesn't indicate an advertisement, unless you're jumping the gun, so to speak. Either way, basing your accusation simply because I've only posted once on the forum doesn't mean I don't play this game. There are plenty of people within the server that aren't extremely active on this forum. Also, don't fix your post, as it is minor and unimportant, yet does allow me to demonstrate that this is not an illegal promotion. - In other words. Place your reply in the receptacle behind you.

    Once again, no. I won't be moving on to another forum, as my only intention was to contact the most well-known authority of this game rather than every single version out there. Anyways, I'm already here. Asked the questions that were needed, but not answered by the right people. So until they reply, the majority of your posts will most likely be irrelevant.

    What I would honestly like is to have someone with a greater authority and understanding of the situation reply in a more legal or in-depth sense as to whether or not this is usually allowed, or checked by the company in question and if any legal action is taken. Based on previous situations, legal action was usually taken in games such as Rising Force and Lineage, which dealt with these things quickly due to loss of profit and pirating sources.

    New account with no posts.

    However, the question includes LINK to a private server.
    Then the poster refuses to remove the link.

    Wonder why we'd think it's an advertisement... if you think you are fooling anyone, you are the ignorant one.

    whats the use of private servers anyway.. isnt it boring?
    Bringing fear and widespread random deaths into the Harshlands, that is my goal..

    It doesn't matter what you think, posting website address from other games, specially Illegal private servers is against the forum rules.

    If you will not change it, a moderator will. (mod will even close this thread)

    But alas, a moderator or GM has not seen this thread yet, so let's wait :)
