Leveling your mount?

I noticed my mount (on my veno file) gets exp, and goes up a level, yet you cannot fight with it.
Noob question, I know, but how does a mount (panther,hellhound etc.) get up a lvl?

    By riding or just sitting on it. The more you ride or sit on it the higher its lvl goes.

    Oh ok, do you have to wait for long? Like how long does it take to get a good hunk of exp, a couple mins or so?

    Now that i don't know because i've really sat and paid attention like that. I don't think it really takes long, I mostly use my mount for when I'm in archosaur or i'm farming mats. I believe it levels every few minutes but don't quote me on that.
