Graphics card problem

I've just bought a new CPU, an AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750+, an upgrade from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ which I'd had for around 18 months. I'm running a XFX 8800GT for my graphics with a Thermalright HR-03GT cooler and 92mm fan.
Before I installed my new CPU Perfect World had always played fine with no glitches. However, since I've installed the new processor the game keeps freezing up on me. I've tried some of the other games I've got (ArmA, Doom3 and Battlefield 2) and they seem fine. After fetching the cover off the PC and having a nose around I noticed a very high pitched noise coming from the graphics card whenever I started PW up but none of my other games (I'd never noticed this noise before I put the new processor in).
I've stress tested and stability tested everything and everything is coming out fine. I've used Orthos and Prime95 for the CPU and 3D Mark 06 for the graphics card. I installed new graphics card drivers when the game first started freezing but had no luck with that, I've even downloaded the game again and re installed it - this ran successfully for around and hour and a half then froze.
Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening? It's baffled me as to why it's only happening on PW and none of my other games?????

    Hmmm...

    That's interesting.

Google 3dAnalyze, and download it, then use that to emulate some graphics card features until you find the one that's causing the problem. When you do (my money is on pixel shaders) install the necessary update.

Thanks for that. I've downloaded it but I can't for the life of me figure out how to use it.
Just a little update on the problem, I've put my old CPU back in and so far it seems to be working ok, there's no sign of the noise I was getting before. I don't know the technical ins and outs of this but could the bigger processor have "overloaded" the graphics card? I'm not sure how this would work or even if it's possible - just a bit of a shot in the dark!

I didn't read your post properly, it seems.

Your new CPU is dual core. Try disabling one of the cores and see if that helps. Some games have problems with dual core processors, although mine seems to work fine...

My old CPU was a dual core too so I wouldn't have thought disabling a core on the new would make any difference would it? Also I don't know how to disable a core, I've never done anything like that before :-)

See the post here. It may help, although I'm not especially optimistic.

The 7750's got a rather odd core multiplier, if I remember correctly. Is it officially supported by your motherboard, and do you have any bios value set off their defaults?

I've been having the game freeze up a lot on me too since the last patch, though only during afk flying world quest. But around the same time I did a dirty upgrade of my drivers, not only that, to a beta version so it could be either...

Since it seems your pc is probably stable, try uninstalling the video drivers, booting into safe mode, removing any driver remnants with driver sweeper, then installing your drivers again.
Worked the last time I had weird issues. If that doesn't fix it, it's either the latest pw patch or our drivers... I should stop being lazy and see if reinstalling my drivers the proper clean way helps.

The dual core thing's probably a load of bs, never ever had affinity issues with any games.

Edit: actually.... just realized we're using the same brand and model of card, and both updated drivers when this started... I'm using 182.05_geforce_winvista_64bit_english_beta. If you're using that, I'd say it's the culprit...

edit 2: just did a clean install of 182.06, we'll see how it goes next world quest.

I spent all night last night (around 8 hours) playing PW with my old CPU and didn't have a problem. Still none the wiser as to what the problem is with the new processor tho......
I'd really like to use the new processor but until I figure out what the problem is with it I'm gonna have to stick with the old one. Do you guys think it's a problem with the processor or compatibility rather than my graphics card?

Compare the clock speed of both CPUs + GPU.

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_cpuz/
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_gpuz/

I had some problems way back and discovered I had an front side bus of 200 MHz with 166 MHz memory : that wasn't good and caused reboots and lockups.

Synchronized the two and everything went smooth.

If you don't understand what front side bus speed, clock speed, bios, chipset are, ask a friend that do to come at your home and check it with you, that's not a thing I'll explain on a gaming forum.

I still think it's the latest PW patch, or the drivers.

Your going by for 8 hours with crashing doesn't surprise me, the game almost never crashes on me and I leave the client running all day/night. I just randomly freeze or get the crash error reporter on afk flying, once a day at most, and only since the latest patch and driver update.

Baobhansidhe's idea may help, but as far as I know, that doesn't affect stability, just performance. And again, you only have this problem with PW which suggests your pc is perfectly stable...

The Affinity setting CAN be an issue on some user's PCs. Most of the issue seems to be with AMD multi-core CPUs.

If you are having issues with your system getting the game to run properly, send Tech Support a ticket here: http://support.perfectworld.com/ticketing

We will ask you for your system information.

Please describe your issues in details, what errors you got, etc; and include any screenshots of the errors in JPG format in your ticket email to us.

We will review your system logs, and try to help you troubleshoot your issues, ok?

    Thanks!
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

So far, after doing a clean driver install as I explained earlier, I haven't had a freeze or crash.
Might be a fluke and I may yet crash tomorrow or something, but it's worth a try.
