The Cost of Refining using Dragon Orbs

I know that there has been a lot of discussion on whether Cash Shop items are expensive or not, but the costs are not always apparent.

With the recent sale of Dragon Orbs in the Cash Shop and given that a lot of us are reaching that point in the game where we want to +8 that awesome lvl 80 item, I thought I would sit down and quickly do the sums. What I discovered truly shocked me.

Analysis below is of using Dragon Orbs (and excludes the Mirage Stone cost, which becomes marginal at higher levels).

Of course you could try your luck without Orbs ;-)

So then I was thinking “but hell yeah, the stat increases are AWESOME, especially at higher levels”. So I picked a few items (15 in total) and calculated the incremental cost per “stat unit”. I was hoping that the stat increases faster than the cost, giving increasing benefit-per-cost as you refine – sadly this is not the case. In fact, as you refine to higher levels, the “cost per stat-unit” approximately doubles every time.

Of course this differs slightly depending on the item, but the general trend remains the same for every item I tested sadly.

Nice effort and all, but your charts are way off. According to your charts, 10 gold is about equal to 150k. Sorry, but 1 gold is about equal to 105-115k on LC, even more on other servers.

edit: nvm you weren't even comparing to coins. my bad

For those of you not realising what you are looking at let me break it down to a simple example.

When looking at an item where refining it added hp it worked out that when it got to +10 it was costing 1 cash shop gold per 1 point of health added to the item.

Now I know not many people would invest to turn an armor item to +10, but it stood out to me as a rather extreme example of the overpricing in the cash shop.

It is more important to relate the cost of the shard vs the stats gained/gold from plusing. Quick example.. I see idiots running around with +3 and using flawless on level 10 gear. When they could be using +4/5(depending if you want to go slightly over the cost/stat of your shard or be just under) and beautiful shards for more stats and at a cheaper cost. If you are going to be using flawless shards on level 9/10 gear, you will want to +5/6 your gear.

Of course this also works differently for each level of gear because plusing your gear becomes better at higher levels and shards keep the same effectiveness regardless of gear level. You also have to take in account the cost of adding sockets.

Basically.. The + on your gear should be based on your shard choice and level of the item.

The majority of my gear is +3 and a few +2 ... I normally refined gears to +3 but am starting to do +2 since I don't think the 3 gold charge for +1 is worth the extra stats you get ... now the +2 is worth it in my opinion.
