Dexterity based blademaster with single sword.

I'm currently making a blademaster with 2 str. 3 dex. every lvl. Instead of going with fists im using single sword and light armor. I need the opinion of experienced blademasters and other classes that fought blademasters about this build. I'm hoping by going with this build to gain advantage in pvp over physical players by dodging their blows (and slowly draining them like a fist warrior) and over magical players by 1 shooting them with the sword ultimate (which considering my insane amount of dex will crit often). So is this possible or am i dreaming? Oh and if someone points out the vit. issue i'm trying to get as much as i can from equip. upgrades and gems. Is it enough to survive in endgame?

The good point about going high dex is that you can use higher level Bow and arrows.
I tried yesterday as recomendation that I got from the forums. I can use the bow to pull mobs our of the packs and kill them with my swords later.
The more dex you have, the better bow and arrows you can get.
I cannot give more insight on this since I just did a small trial yesterday and I hope to continue it today and see.0 -
well, it could work, i am not gonna tell you it wont. But the biggest problem i see is that, high dex or not, your still a melee toon, and you are still gonna get hit regularly, because even with a higher crit rate.....looking at 10-12% at lvl 50 about, your damage output still will not be enough to one hit most mobs equal to your level, and wearing light, your gonna take a beating now and then. I would stay stock up on life powder, hp pots and invest in a charm. for such instances. and if your boss fighting and pull aggro from your tank...you will very likely be toast.
I view this as an expensive build. Endgame it may pan out, but your gonna have a long road.0 -
It's true that using a bow had crossed my mind. It's good for drawing mobs.Half-elf... Let's see what he has to offer.b:laugh0

just calculating the numbers out, i see you having about a 8% crit rate at lvl 50 with that stat build....its good, at lvl 50, i am at 6% with a 1% crit arrow and a 1% crit ring. And I rolled sword.
On the downside, you will be looking at a base HP of 1545, with that plus light armor, some hits may hurt you big time...An example....i took a test hit from gouf when i was about lvl 40, and it hit me for just over 1k....that is 2/3 of your base Hp. And that is me wearing heavy.
If it was me, and you want to go light, i would try to find a little bit of extra points to put into vit along the way, just to be safe. Stones and armor refinement will help, but that is all very expensive for a toon under lvl 60 i would say.0 -
and the bow is a great idea...I use one. it pulls mobs nice, even a lower level one will do the trick, your just triggering the mob, as a non-archer your never gonna do real damage with a bow at higher levels0

That's fine with me. I need to do more tests but I notice if you run too much away from the mobs after you hit with arrows. They chase you with mag attacks which is not good for us.
A question for you since you are using this weapon. is it true that you increase your critical by carrying arrows on your amunition slot?
I read that in the forum but I cannot find it.0 -

Re-roll Archer please.
A BM with out heavy armor is like a full dex Barb.Back.0 -
Yeah,
Look for the plus 1% crit arrows, They are the ones I leave equiped and even when I am not using the bow, my stats stay the same with the additional +1. I have not actually done the leg work and calculated crits...i am just going with it.
And as far as ranged magic attacks, it is the chance you take, you hope that you pull the mob enough to be able to run to it and start whacking before it magic strikes you.
It is not the perfect solution if you are grouped with people who have ranged attacks and can with stand a couple magical ranged attacks, but if you are solo, or with a group that have no real long range attack it is helpful.
lol, re-roll archer.....it's so true on so many levels.0 -
I had an archer and played it until lvl 35. I didn't like it that much to be honest. I am merely testing a build on a blademaster. I wanted to know if I can crit with the sword ultimate skill often. At first i wanted to make a fist blademaster but the skill tree sucked (my opinion only, it may not suck for some people). I noticed that the same build can carry a sword and adding high critical rate (of the fist warrior) with the higher damage from the sword and better skills i can make a formidable 1 vs 1 pvp char. I may rethink my build to 1 vit 5 str 4 dex which is a basic fist warrior build, but how much evasion and crit can 4 dex/2 lvls can provide?Half-elf... Let's see what he has to offer.b:laugh0

As for the bow i wasn't going to use it regulary on a blademaster, lol. I was only using the requirements for it to help my build. I suppose it could work with the spark skill (lvl 30) on a running robe that hasn't much HP left.Half-elf... Let's see what he has to offer.b:laugh0

The bottom line is as a blademaster you are meant to take hits and deal hits at close range. The advantage a fist warrior has is their attack speed. Which you will not benefit from when wielding a sword. If it was me I would start adjusting my stats at some point so you can equip heavy armor. (I mean a BM's role is off tank/medium damage dealer)If you really like your Light armor I at least suggest trying to mix and match light armor with some heavy. Especially if you are not taking any vitality in your build. End game instead of taking a bunch of vit boosts and hp boosts to your equipment you can always opt for crit+, if that's what you really want. Your dodge rate isn't going to be as good as an archers no matter what you do. So depending on that to save you from melee fighters isn't something i would recommend.
With all that being said; You can go both a fist and sword route with this build. Pulling out each weapon as is needed. This is something more along the lines of what you should do with such a build. Otherwise I still suggest going the more classical sword building route.
What you want to do really does sound like you should be playing an archer. I know you mentioned you played one up to level 35 and didn't really like it. But keep in mind that archers don't show their real good potential until they are above level 50. With an archer you will be able to use both magical and physical attacks. Which in the end helps you with magic/physical mobs.Retired

My current dex is 78. I can only use two type of arrows, since the arrows I can put on my slot depend on the bow I can use.
Which arrows are the ones that add 1% crit?0 -
Well i've watched simillar threads and considered what you all said on this one and i might rethink my build. I really want to make a sword warrior and not be beaten overall by axe and spear later in the game. I'm always oppened for sugestions. I just don't want to be another axe BM (not that is anything wrong with axe) i want a good 1 vs 1 sword blademaster.Half-elf... Let's see what he has to offer.b:laugh0

At first I was going to make myself a sword build. By level 29 I realized that the role I wanted to play in a party leaned more towards a hammer build. (I hate the axes). I finally committed stat wise and skill buying wise by level 33 that going hammers was what I wanted to do. (I didn't buy any skills and was saving up my stat points.) In the end its all about how you want to play your character/game. I can't tell you and won't tell you what to do. I've made my observations. Whatever you do is something you need to decide.
I suggest reading and then re-reading the build guide. It helped me out. And you don't have to commit to a path right now. Just don't use up all your stats.Retired

Gran,
I cant remember the name of the arrows but they are low level and I believe they need to be crafted, we had a member of our guild handing them out so i grabbed one and got hooked. When I log tonight I will remember to check the name, but my dex is 80, I use the lowest level bow available, and i can equip them. So, they will work fine. I have seen some people sell them from their kitties in arch, look for the kitties with the +1%crit in the name above the head.
I dont know if i posted this in this thread, but I too am sword, I love the look of sword and the dirty in close 1v1 damage they do....but, I have to admit, I have been swayed to axes...(or hammers) due to the roll I want to play as I level, I am less interested in 1v1 and more interested on multiple mobs and lots of Fb runs, and with the radial AoE's you get with the axes...I could not resist. So, I roll with a set of axes that are for a lvl 37 I believe but the damage range is about the same as my current dual blades, so I am not losing much there...And the AoE's are fun, I like big shiney lightsb:victory0 -

Thx, I'll look into it0 -
The +1 crit is a bonus that sometimes appears on crafted arrows (just like other bonuses appear on crafted items). But, be aware that this may only be a bug in the way the program updates your character sheet. It is certainly true that you will see a higher crit percentage reported on your character sheet with one of these in your quiver. There was a series of threads where someone was saying they had tested whether the percentage of crits really changed and that it did not. I don't know whether to believe those posts or not, but be aware this is one possible reason GMs have never identified this as glitch exploitation.0

I got on of those arrows last night and my stats went from 4% to 5%. After, this happened I went to kill some mobs and on the second mob I did a critical hit.
luck?, coincidence? IDK0 -
Its really hard to prove out because of the way crits are calculated. you have a 5% chance of criting every time, that doesnt mean your gonna automatically crit 5 times out of every 100 hits. But I figure it doesnt hurt me to carry it, it looks good in the stats, right?
