Question about odd behaviour : kind of hacking?

Before you say anything about what I am going to tell, I'll tell this: I was really stupid in this buisness, and not proud of being such a "clever" trader.
You won't need to remind it.
Now, the story :
one player (whose name will be omitted), two characters (maybe more).
ONe is a noob, another is the player's main charaters (level high enough to know major features of the game).
Since the player knows well the game, he knows values of things, and how players behave with noobs. He knows everything about squad, trade, etc...
So, he decides to login with his noob, and pretends to be quite uneasy with all rules. He asks a player (eg, me) who wants to trade to show him the item he want to trade.
But before, he asks him to enter a squad. He also tells a few nonsense pretending some things about safety logs and item chat. The trader thinks he is a noob, and decides to show him the traded item, because he thought the noob doesn't know much about the rules and also thought that someone else can't pick up an item dropped during a few seconds....
Actually, this rule does not apply in a squad : the "noob" does know it (doesn't really act as a noob, huh?). Before I even had the time to say "oups", the other player had picked up the dropped item.... and dismissed the squad. Then, he tried to say he had to wait for some 20 minutes related to his safety lock...
There, I really realized how stupid I was. The object of the stealth is not important, but for the time lost and the work involved for finding it.
But using multiple characters to abuse other players does not sound fair to me. It looks like he is using some game's weakness, and the fact that he does not care about his "noob" account.
I don't want to get my item back (unless I can do the same to him) : this is a deserved price for being stupide.
But I am really wondering if such a behaviour could be reckoned as hacking.
What do you think about it?
PS : sorry for the many mistakes. English is not my native language.

That's not hacking.
You got scammed.
Consider it a lesson learned, and never fall for the same thing again.0 -
Never trust a stranger for any reason ever. As Jrudora said, that's not hacking that scamming.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Ouch!! I feel your pain on that one having gone through enough scams online in my time (I started with Ultima Online back in the 90s). But the other posters are right, it is a scam and not a ****.
A **** violates the game rules somehow or does something it is not supposed to and players use that fact to gain an edge.
This player simply used game mechanics, which are perfectly legal, to scam someone. Blacklist is the best as well as letting EVERYONE else know the character's name.
If they are part of an Alliance, you can always talk to their Alliance Leader and see if you can get any justice that way, but that is the best course I can think of for you.

Thanks. It's as I have always said, "You can get more results with a kind word and a big stick, than you can with merely a kind word."

Even if you thought that they couldn't pick the item up, there was still no reason to drop it. If they aren't able to trade with you then there's no point in showing them the item, not like they can buy it.
And even if you aren't squadded, sure would suck to drop your item and then get dc'd.0 -
My main problem is that there is no possible response against that (but buying some brain, indeed) : using a character he does not care about makes the player immune to "vendetta". He does not care being publicly named, cause he can then creates another character and starts it again. His main character will never be concerned as long as it is impossible to connect it with his other "noob" one.
I have already been stolen in other game, but this was in a RP way : here, he is using non-RP features (ie technical ones) to scam.
Then, according to me , using non RP features in such a way there is no response available is a kind of cheating.
I don't care about what I lost, but I really would like others not to be tricked. And as long as we cannot bind together two characters from the same player, such a behaviour will still be possible.
Then, it may not be official cheating, but then there may be a way to counter attack, eg by revealing player's main character.0 -
Report it to GM's.
They can find his account from any of the characters.
Don't count on stuff happening though. Since it's so far one person's word against anothers, with no form of evidence.0
