Just a few questions? Why do some of you date people online? How do you know they arent the same sex as you? For all you know, the other person could be some nasty pedophile named larry that wants your pang pang. Grow some balls or hair and get a gf/bf in the real world. Get out there and make some conversation!!!

I met my boyfriend over the internet. You know, there's such a thing called a webcam, and photos. For the first few days of our relationship, I didn't know what he looked like until he showed me a picture, then later we got on AIM video.

Yes, there is a lot of news and drama about internet predators, but just because they're out there doesn't mean that everyone online is a creepy old man. All it takes is some time to get to know that person. If you're careful, then you'll be fine.

True true. I just dont get the whole concept. If you have enough confidence to risk getting taken advantage of with a total "Unknown" stranger without knowing what they look like then why risk it. The #2 post i can understand.

Like I said, there are such useful inventions like the webcam and the digital camera. It isn't a risk if you're careful about it. I'm not saying that you should trust everyone you meet on the internet, because that's not a good idea by far. What I'm suggesting is simply that internet and long distance relationships aren't a fairy tale.

    Zhou Tai!

Anyway, I think it's fine as long as you're not stupid about it. I play with my rl fiancee. But I know a lot of people who met online, talked over video like webcams and such, and fell in love. It happens.

It's true there's a lot of nonsense out there with men pretending to be girls or younger guys. I don't really recommend it for young girls...but when you're old enough to be out in the dating world, you're old enough to meet people online. It's funny how sometimes people forget there's an actual human on the other end of those pixels.

So just don't be stupid about it. If you want to get to know someone then do just that...don't be doing stupid things some random asks you to do just because he/she might be some "cute girl" or "hot guy".

That's funny, because my boyfriend - who I met over the internet, mind you - came to visit me for over a month, and he just left a week ago. :] Don't assume things about every internet and long distance relationship. Just because two people don't happen to live close to each other doesn't mean that nothing will come of it. My boyfriend and I have been dating for nearly six months and we have a beautiful relationship. He is the love of my life and just because we met over the internet doesn't make it any less real.

I completely agree. I met my fiance of 3 years on an mmo. We had known each other for about 5 years. In my case, all the guys I met in real life were not dating material or were already my friends and I didn't want to get serious with them. I lived in a small town at the time as well.

You DO have to be very careful tho, meet up with the guy/girl with your parents like I did. I know several married couples that have met over the net and things couldn't be better for them. It takes time like Shrax said, and definitely a strong judge of character.

I'd also like to add in the fact that most of the guys/gals that say internet relationships are disgusting and wrong have no problems flirting with someone online. It just seems even worse to me for a person to lead another on like that. (Not an attack on anyone in this thread, just a thought.)
