Devour/penetrate armor

I just started playing, and was wondering if you guys could clarify something for me so i can better plan my skill(upgrade)s.

Penetrate; reduce def by 12%-30%(depending on skill lvl) for 10 sec.
Devour; reduce def by 23-50%(depending on skill lvl) for 10 sec.

Do these skills overlap, add or cumulative into new armor?

F.ex.
Apply both - skill with highest def reduction debuff applied, other ignored. So a 12% and 23% debuff means 23% less armor on target - 77% remaining .

Added - both skills reduce armor when applied together. So on 12% and 23% debuff the armor is lowered by 35% - 65% remaining.

Cumulative - both skills reduce armor when applied together on remaining armor. So on 12% and 23% reduction the armor gets reduced to by 12% to 88% first (100%-12%) and then by 23% to ~68% (-23% on the remaining 88% -> 10% reduction becomes 8.8%).

Any clarification on how it works ingame is appreciated.

there's no point really in trying to figure that out.
That is not very practical, since you only use devour when tanking bosses, and you will not go into human form anytime while tanking bosses your level and higher. penetrate armor is mainly for pvp/grinding

As Dusk said.. it's a moot point.

But just to answer your question anyway, far as I can see, none of those selections are correct. I don't know for certain, but since all other debuffs and buffs tend to work this way...

Whichever one is applied last will affect the target. And only that one. Which makes the point doubly moot.
    Everyone here is ridiculously oversensitive.

Agreed, you have neither the time nor the mana to switch between tiger and human forms in combat. And you're definitely not going humanoid with a boss (unless the FB19 one b:chuckle).

Plus as fuzzles said, the last effect overwrites the earlier one for almost all other buffs/debuffs. Bleed is the only attack we got I think that stacks and even then I'm talking about the same type of bleed. Never tried fleshream and garotte on a mob.

fleshream and sunder does stack from what ive seen, but havent tried it with garotte.

and indeed, switching from tiger to humanoid form during a boss could very well get you killed if its a hard one.

    And for an actual answer...
Apply both - skill with highest def reduction debuff applied, other ignored. So a 12% and 23% debuff means 23% less armor on target - 77% remaining .

Idk why these crazy people are saying it's a waste of time to figure it out...If you could knock a target's defense down by 80% that would be very useful. Unfortinately, only one of the same debuff can take effect. If you are to use both, the stronger one (devour), it will stay in effect until it burns out. There's also another skill that venomancers have which does the same debuff, reducing the target's physical defense. If all three physical defense reducers were used at the exact same time, whoever had the highest % knockoff would take effect, and stay until overpowered, or until it wears off.

Couple of points to make...First, I Buff mid boss all the time, (HH, and FBs) just turtle, Human, Buff, Tiger...keep right on tanking (when needed of course)

Second, when tanking with a pure dex archer in the group, the phys reduction skills are actually a bad thing. They increase the archers damage to a point where it becomes almost impossible to hold against. Sure the boss dies faster, but at what cost?

First, i'm sorry we crazy people are giving general tips on what to do while tanking. Obviously no tank goes and switches forms continuously to try to double the debuff.
well yes, buffing midway between bosses are an exception, when you use turtle and buff, but generally speaking, we do not alternate between forms when tanking.

It is actually a wonderful question. It is however whichever one is used last. Notice how if you have lvl 1 hp buff and a 64 has lvl 10. Your's overwrites his? It works in the same way. Experiments ftw.

Can others please confirm this?I normally very reluctant to flesh ream after sunder is cast, cos i was afraid of it cancelling sunder out.

More ppl who have noticed it stacks testomonial, would be a great help.

The most important part of Sunder..is the heal..the Flesh ream is the Aggro..I don't see your problem. the damage doesn't matter too much.
