What is the max number of sockets each item can have?

What is the max number of sockets each item can have?

Ok, so I looked for the answer to this question awhile back and believe the answer I came up with was weapons can have a max total of 2 sockets and armors can have a max total of 4 sockets. I'm honestly not sure if that was accurate and I can't seem to find a post stating the number of sockets each item is capable of. Maybe I just over read it.

Anyways, am I correct in thinking that:
Weapons = max of 2 sockets
Armors = max of 4 sockets

Also, by 'armor,' does this mean all pieces of armor (ie. Shirt, Pants, Helmet, Footwear, and Wrist Bracers) can have a max of 4 sockets?

    the minimum for armour is 3
