Weapon question.

Okay so this may be a slightly newbie question, and before anyone asks, aye I've searched the forums a bit and most topics haven't really been related to my question. Most questions I see are related to stat allocation/builds to use, but I already know (and have built myself so far) that I'm going as hammer/axe BM. My question is not so much on the build itself, but the weapons used. The Axes seem to have a very large gap between the low & top end damages when compared to the Hammers, the trade off is Hammers seem to have lower values to the low/top end damages. I'm assuming axes are more for burst damage while hammers go for consistancy, but my question is basically, does one end up becoming better than the other in the end? Or does one end up trumping the other as far as the damage dealt goes?
So far I've been sticking mainly to axes (mainly for the looks, I know -_- bad monkey, effectivness>>looks any day), but I was wondering if I would find myself dealing out better numbers with hammers since the gap between the low/top is much smaller, or does it all generally equal itself out in the end? I mean a weapon with a 176 low - 410 top, there's such a large gap you've got numbers flying all over the grid when you swing, while a weapon with 248 low - 372 top the gap is smaller, and more consistant just not as heavy when you strike with the higher end of it. The small gap used with hammers seems a bit nicer to me, but then again, maybe I've just been unlucky most times when I swing my axes b:sad any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

In my experience it doesn't really matter. Plus numbers can show you that you still end up at roughly the same total damage. (Numbers that I'm too tired to write about right now, it has to do with averages though b:chuckle)0
