Ok so I am running vista have tried all of the standard options Disabling UAC, Running as Admin, firewall on both router/modem and vista off, antivirus off, spybot off, and still cannot connect to server. I ran a routetrace to one of the SANCTUARY ips and all went without a hitch, it said connection made in 14 jumps. however I still cannot connect to the server. I tried to use that nmap thing and it says:

Starting Nmap 4.76 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2009-01-30 22:04 Eastern Standard Time

Warning: Hostname pwigc3.perfectworld.com resolves to 8 IPs. Using 64.74.134.56.

dnet: Failed to open device eth4

QUITTING!

I am connecting and trying this both hardwired and wirelessly, both results are exactly the same. following is my HJT log, hopefully something can be discovered.....:

Regarding your hijackthis log, it is highly suggested that you run multiple scans with multiple programs. The link below can help you get started.

    http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=850742&postcount=18

It could be a networking issue that you will need to troubleshoot. Please see the info below.

For more information about setting up your network connections, please visit the
    following sites:

    Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/default.mspx

    Windows Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/networking.mspx

Make sure that your router has port 29000 open for PWI and for the PWI patcher. Your router's manufacturer's website should have the instructions on how to do this.

Third-party assistance on configuring popular routers can be found at http://www.portforward.com/ Be aware that this site is neither affiliated with nor supported by Perfect World Entertainment.

Most router manufacturers also offer guides and additional information on their websites, in the included documentation, or on the installation CD that came with the router. On most routers, the brand and model number is on or near the serial number shown on the bottom of the device.

You may also need to make changes to the software for your router, antivirus software, security software, and/or firewall software in order to allow for your computer to communicate and send data back and forth to the IP addresses for the PWI game servers and patch servers listed below.

If you are located at a university, hotel or other similar location and are having trouble accessing the internet, contact the IT or System Administrators for the school network. Some universities block internet traffic and/or restrict it. Ask them to prioritize the traffic for your internet connection and give them the IP addresses listed below and port 29000.

Please read the documentation or help files that accompany your
antivirus/security/firewall software. You can also research the software developers' websites that made your software and check to see if they have guides and information about how to change the settings in your software.

Here is a suggestion a user has sent us for a solution that worked for him using Windows XP.

    Maybe it could help you.

Problem statement:When a client is connected to the internet via a LAN proxy, WinXP's firewall does not redirect all port requests.

Situation:Individuals connected to the internet via a LAN proxy, and making use of only WinXP's firewall will be able to download, patch, and start the ElementClient, but will be unable to login or play the game.

Solution:Individuals may choose to use a dial-up solution (for which WinXP redirects all ports correctly). If, however, individuals wish to use a LAN proxy they will need to install a firewall and/or proxy solution. This will catch all port connections and channel it through to the proxy server.Recommendation:I have used ProxyFirewall (from http://uniqueinternetservices.com) successfully to login and commence play on PerfectWorld International's servers without any problems.
    End of user suggestion

    Networking - Bypassing Your Router

In some circumstances, you may have to bypass your router, and directly connect your computer to the cable or DSL modem.
Before doing so, make sure that you have installed and run antivirus/security software on
    your computer.

You will need an Ethernet cable (in the US, called the Category 5e networking cable) to connect your computer to the cable or DSL modem. The cable you might need (depending
on your network setup) will have a male plug on both ends.
One end will plug into your Ethernet/Internet/WAN (or similar) port on your computer and the other end will plug into the Internet/RESNET/WAN (or similar) port on your cable
    or DSL modem.

Note: Please read the documentation or help files that accompany your antivirus/security/firewall software.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

in regards to the first comment you made darthpanda, I have since scanned my system with symantec, mcaffe and avg free and none of them detected anything. I have set up my networking to prot forward port 29000 as instructed, does not work. I have disable every fire wall I could even imagine having (router and windows) along with all of the steps up I previously noted. there is no where in my router to "allow ip addresses" only dmz host option which I enable. there is also no option in my router for forwarding ports based on certain programs, except the ones already listed there (call of duty, doom 3 a bunch more loaded on default to the routers firmaware) the only option is to forward a certain port or range of ports to a specifc local IP address on the network Thusly I forwarded port 29000 to 192.168.1.46 which is the ip address for my computer. Still nothing. If there is something I am doing wrong please feel free to tell me. Also my dsl modem is a combination wireless gateway/router/modem so I can't bypass the router as you suggested..... I even tried that proxy program you put a link up to, however I could not get it to work, not sure how to use it, it said something about I didn't have a server setup or something like that, any more advice on how to use it and I will definately give it a try..... Still nothing. When I load the game it goes to the patcher, just patched from 68-71 this AM perfectly fine, with no errors. I clikc start and it launches the other menu and it says something to the effect of message not found. then after approx 5 secs it show a message in that diaglog box. I click continue and type in my log in information and hit enter and it says "log in timeout 40 secs. _____ sec" have passed or something similar. (sorry forget what the end says) then when the counting number reaches 20 sec it takes me back to the login option and brings up another dialog boxe that says "unable to connect to server" that is my problem and what I have done to try and fix it thus far. I have run traceroute or visualtrace whichever it is called and it succesfully made the connection to 6 different ip addresses you listed in 14 hops. All of them in 14 hops. I do not know what else to even attempt to try so any ideas would be helpful.

nightzlegendz just out of curiosity who is your isp?

Thank you.

Entry Protocol Global Port(s) Local Port(s)
    1 TCP 29000 29000
    2 UDP 29000 29000

the links for portforwarding do not include the verizon model of that router and the manufacturers weba page says: this model was made exclusively for verizon contact them and this number.........

You don't need an incoming port open, or a public IP address, which is what Verizon usually charges for. The part you do need is outgoing TCP access. That's almost certainly on your computer.

Try running nmap As Administrator, and using the same commands as before. Please tell us what results you get.

ok apparently I am creating confusion. Verizon's "tech support" does not cover port forwarding issues. Period end of story. I attempted to follow the advice of numerous other posts on here and contact them and ask them to allow port 29000 and to prioritize it. The answer was "tech support does not handle anything dealling with port forwarding. You must contact verizon elite support. I must inform you though that it is a fee based assitance program." Thay proceeded to give me the link which states that it is 14.99 per month for ten months minimum. Just for tech support that will deal with port forwarding at all. On a hunch I called the number I got off the website and asked if port 29000 wa sblocked by them. The answer I recieved was "we can not find out until we are sure that you forwarded the ports poroperly on your end first. For that you need to sign up for our Elite Support." It is the "support" or lack there of, that they charge for.

    here is an nmap report:

    Starting Nmap 4.76 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2009-02-05 19:12 Eastern Standard Time

Warning: Hostname pwigc3.perfectworld.com resolves to 8 IPs. Using 64.74.134.54.

    Interesting ports on smtp.perfectworldinternational.com (64.74.134.54):

    PORT STATE SERVICE

    29000/tcp open unknown

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.80 seconds

    I have UAC turned off.

here is a pic of a tracert I did for one of the server ips:(click full screen on all pictures and they show up clearer....)

    http://s620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/?action=view&current=pwitracert.jpg

not very clear but basically what it does is it works fune until it get to number 11 then it comes up with all asterisks from then on out. (if you need a clearer one let me know and I will try again.)

here is a pic of my firewall settings in the router:

    http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/Untitled.jpg

Windows firewall is turned off and set to "not managed"

here is a pic of my port forwarding spec in the router:

    http://s620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/?action=view&current=portforwarding.jpg

As I stated previously while trying to connect I disable ALL anti-whatever software and close anything that is not vital to operation of computer or game.

here is copy of processes as I try to start the game, with the exception of iexplore, since I am typing this as I am taking the screen shots.....:

    http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/processes.jpg

here is a pic of what shows up on my screen when I click the start button: (it used to say no messages from server)

    http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/noticescreen.jpg

and here is a picture of the server selection screen:

    http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/serverscreen.jpg

and here is a pic of a netstat -ao I ran in the command prompt:

    http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt289/devildoc5/netstat.jpg

My HJT file is noted above, however if you require I knew one I can put a new one up.

That is about all I think think about adding to hopefully get this game working right now. If there is anything else you should require pls feel free to let me know.

btw here is the report of a shieldsup scan I did.....

    ShieldsUP!
    Internet Port Vulnerability Profiling
by Steve Gibson, Gibson Research Corporation.

    Probing Your Port 29000
The GRC server is attempting to establish a TCP
connection to Port 29000 of your computer located
at Internet at IP address 96.248.146.217:

Total elapsed testing time: 0.116 seconds

    Port
    Status Protocol and Application

    29000
Closed Unknown Protocol for this port
    Unknown Application for this port

The result of the port probe is shown above.

    and this one:

GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2009-02-06 at 03:27:43

Results from probe of port: 29000

    0 Ports Open
    1 Ports Closed
    0 Ports Stealth
    1 Ports Tested

THE PORT tested was found to be: CLOSED.

TruStealth: FAILED - NOT all tested ports were STEALTH,
    - NO unsolicited packets were received,
    - A PING REPLY (ICMP Echo) WAS RECEIVED.

I have messed with both static nat and dmz host (I know, but hey I am willing to try everything) as you can see (or at least it would appear to me) my router is properly configured for this. I really just can not justify spening 150$ in ten months for them to get online and tell me that I was right and it is there fault.

Ok I had a 20 year usmc Communications and Data chief look over my router. He confirmed that my settings are GOOD. However I still cannot connect. Verizon still wants me to pay the money just to talk to a tech so he can type in the command to clear the block on the port!

*EDIT* But there is something still wrong. The command you had me type into nmap shows that port is open unknown. but if I run a port specific nmap for that port is says closed unknown????? Anyone have any idea what could be going on here?

Been trying to connect. I type in my udername and password, after a bit of time it says Server networking error. Would this be on my end or the servers end? If mine, im not sure what to do. I have allowed the port through my peer guardian, and even turned off peer guardian to see if it worked. Not sure what else I can do.

My guess is that all this is on the servers-end. I was able to play last night, in the middle of the night, but when i wake up this morning at 5:30am, cant connect. It will pull up the patcher, let me start up the game, enter my login info, and then just sits there saying "Logging on, wait just a moment...." and doesn't move.
