Self test(with 2 computers) confirmed when alt tabbed my +2 m/s goose goes slower then 1.5m/s elf wings, and when in game it is clearly faster. Potential bug?

It could be the altitude affecting your speed.. I believe when you are going up and forward at the same time it's slower than just going forward.

I had them both at the same heights at the times, and did multiple tests. When alt+tabbed it deffinatly goes slower. This is alt+tabbed from fullscreen havent tested window mode alt+tabbed yet.

I shouldnt have added a question mark in the title, it is definatly true. I was more wondering if there was a reason behind it, as it kinda defeats the purpose of autofly to begin with.

Also it raises altitude at half the speed while alt+tabbed.

i read somewhere that full screen alt+tabbed makes you go slower.

    try windowed mode.

Hmm you're correct, alt+tabbed in window is normal speed. Alt+tabbed in fullscreen is about half speed x.x(here I've been doing my paperclip and spring alt +tabbed in full screen b:shedtear)

Still that is still rediculous that it goes slower in full screen.

Well at least this post can inform people, I'm sure I wasnt the only one doing so. b:shutup

if you tab out so pw is not in front it goes slower. end of story accept it. if you want to go full speed leave the game up and play dont sit on internet or whatever.

Sheesh, you're pretty rude. I wasnt begging for a fix, or crying, no need to be mean about it.b:sweat Plus I'm sure I'm not the only one who wasnt aware of this happening, so the post will help to inform others. Usually when I'm alt+tabbed I'm rummaging these forums anyways!b:avoid

This is exactly what I was trying to do when I found this out myself! I told Israfel to fly from Archosaur to Lost City, Alt-Tabbed to read through and post on the forums, and then when I went back I was at... Wellspring Village?! b:shocked

It's at least half the speed, if not slower, on my machine. Windowed mode, when not active, is the same. Oh well.

I have noticed if running while my processor seems unable to keep up with updates, i do in fact run slower also. The reason i mention this, is it might be that while alt-tabbed, the game isnt getting the processer power it needs to keep moving at full speed. Try doing the experiment again, but this time, bump the process priority of elementclient to Very High (not real time or you'll completely choke the computer). See if running the game on a higher priority allows it the process power to keep going at full speed.

I had my laptop next to me, and decided for today I would do the spring event at the same time on both my chars, and follow the same path, and my slower char was always beating me to the next coin(by like twice the distance! (since this char was alt+tabbed)) and wondered what was up. Sadly I've been doing this since I hit 70 on paperclip, wonder how much time I've wasted...

Yeah I second Darksorrow's suggestion (although it may cause everything else to run slow or become unstable).

I've travelled distances with other players that have been on less powerful computers, ones that work hard to even run the game on it's own. They do move slower. So making the game executable "inactive" will definitely reduce CPU usage dedicated to it, therefore making the game update rate slower, so you'll move slower throughout the game world.

Solution: Get a more capable CPU or computer.

I have the same problem alt tabbed. I also notice that when I get incoming mail through outlook and it gets scanned for viruses I get a slight lag. My question is not how to fix this (obviously faster PC, disable virus scan, etc) but more curiosity of what other players see. To me it looks like I'm running through syrup. I think it would be hilarious if a player goes running by and sees me wings flapping at a snails pace.

My computer is more then capable lol I laugh at that even being suggestedb:shutup. I've tried running it at the highest priorety and it still goes slower, only alt+tabbed in fullscreen mode(not windowed). This has nothing to do with my computer/CPU and all about the alt+tab.

It's ok, now I just do my afk flying in window mode instead b:sad

Often in bad programming, the 3D refresh rate serves as the "tic" to regulate your client speed, because it seems more accurate and is far easier to obtain than the system clock.

Problem is, ALL VERSIONS OF WINDOWS manage windowed and full screen at different frequencies, causing change of speed when you alt-tab. That's a bug that was never addressed. Also, video memory is used differently, which compounds the problem.

One efficient workaround is to use RefreshForce, a little software from Mr. Gregory Maynard, to weed out unused refresh rates.

You can also switch to windowed mode and use CMDOW to produce simili-fullscreen with a borderless window taking all the surface, like I do, which allows quick tabbing to msn/gtalk and keeping an eye on system events.

Search the URL in google, or I can put the URL if modos are okay with that.

Seems like you should run in windowed mode anyway. Otherwise you might be spam healing the tank in the middle of a close fight with a big boss, when you accidentally hit the Windows key and suddenly you're staring at the desktop.
