Secondary tank?

I keep hearing the phrase "two tanks is better than one". Cash-shop and special-spawn pets not included, it's almost a given that the default tank would be a magmite/golem [crystalline, volcanic]. I'm wondering what people's opinions are on what makes a good second tank? /Two/ golems? Or a golem and something else? Would the something else be a magic tank, an antelope pup, perhaps?

The thread title also should have read, "and other queries", apologies.

Which of the two starter pets is better, the scorpion or the wolf?

Do the kitten/lynxus family and the minkii family make good pets?

Firstly, you don't want two magmites. In my experience, just one of them is to many >.< For a second tank try to find something with good health, physical, and magic defense. Put mroe emphasis on the magic defense... The golem's biggest weakness is magic so having a pet with magic defense to back him up is a good idea. I'd suggest the Frogling rare pet as a secondary tank, or just wait until lvl 45 when you can catch a Guardian Wolf which has good stats all around as well as very good magic defense.

Just one magmite, and a secondary tank with more emphasis on the mdef - that's what I thought, thank you.

Though I did mention, discounting rare pets/cash-shop pets/pets which are rare-spawns, does anyone have any reccomendations? I'm afraid Frogling is personally not really an option.

Are the stats of a Guardian Wolf at lvl 45 better than the stats of a Sharptooth Wolfling raised to lvl 45? Perhaps someone could post their [these] pets' stats, if they have them?

Also, if anyone has answers to my other questions, it would be appreciated.

Froggy is fantastic value for money. It really is. I would strongly suggest getting one when possible, even if it seems a bit out of reach at the moment.

Really though.. if you're too low a level to afford a Froggy, I can't really imagine a situation in which you'll need to bust out a secondary tank. No other pet really springs to mind. Maybe take a look around for that chart that seems to float around the place fairly often. The one that lists the stats of a bunch of the top pets.

Ooh, and of the starting pets, go for the scorpion. It's not as tanky, but it's got the highest overall damage of any ground pet, with the exception of herc.
    Everyone here is ridiculously oversensitive.

In all honesty, you're being too cavalier in dismissing the frogling so easily. I've seen it on auction for as little as 200k, seems to average 250k-300k. By the time you get to your 30s, you can grind that much coin in one evening. A resourceful person in their 20s could probably manage it too.

It is not the end-all be-all of pets - its p.def is too low for primary tanking compared to the golem, beetle, cub, etc. But it would work perfectly as a secondary tank, and later when you start running into more magic-using mobs, a primary tank.

That said, except for the bosses, pretty much any pet will work. I just hit 51 and so far this game is not like others which force you to group at higher levels. I can solo just as easily as when I was 20. A better pet makes it easier, but even an average pet is workable. So unless you're really high level, don't worry about a secondary tank. If your golem dies in a fight, just bring up one of your other pets to finish it. Then revive and resummon the golem.

I just scored a Treefrog on auction tonight for 120k, and two more were up for 200k.

Yet to try mine out, but cost is certainly no reason to bar the froggy as an option.

Guardian Wolf and Sharptooth Wolfling are 2 different types of wolf. The Sharptooth Wolfling will have more attack than the Guardian Wolf at level 45, but hes a horrible tank ;) If you want a secondary tank, choose the Guardian Wolf. If you want an attack pet switch the Sharptooth for a Scorpionb:pleased
