Venomous Scarab and Ironwood Scarab are all you really need until you can get Lucky Scarab at 49b:mischievous I'd also advise leveling up level 39 Noxious Gas whenever possible but it shouldn't be a priority.

Also level up Metabolic Boots and Natures Grace as fast as possible as well as Soul Transfusion. Those three skills when used properly can make it so you never have to use another potion ever again.b:laugh

I use blazing scarab and noxious gas constantly. I would recommend maxing blazing scarab, ironwood scarab, venomous scarab and noxious gas. The 2 spark AOE is good too and has its uses, but it's not used all that often because of the spark thing. Definitely don't level frost. There's one other that does a stun too that I can't think of the name of right now. It's a heavy hitter, even at level 1. The stun is lame, but the damage on it is good. Only reason I really haven't leveled it at all, or use it, is because its range kinda sucks.

People say not to bother with DOT skills like blazing scarab, but I do, and I highly recommend them and here's why. If you hit with those, and your pet goes down and you take off running, they're still doing damage while you're getting away, and it may just be enough to finish the mob and save you. Even if everything goes good, the damage on both blazing and noxious is really good, and the DOT is running while you're attacking with other stuff, thereby adding extra damage to the mix. Can't beat that.

Also, it can allow your pet to grab and hold aggro better because it does less upfront damage than Venomous and Ironwood Scarabs do.

I like blazing scarab too. It's your most efficient damage skill if it lasts its full duration (most damage dealt per point of mana). If it lasts about half its duration, it's as efficient as venomous scarab. It's a good skill to toss on a mob if you're going to have the pet tank it while you do something else (like loot or mine resources). And of course since both venomous and ironwood do wood damage, it's nice to have a fire spell to use on wood-resistant mobs.

For "live or die" fights, the DDs like venomous and ironwood are good. But for grinding, you have to balance out your mp usage with how long it takes metabolic boost and nature's grace to recycle. So you can't spam the DDs as fast as possible. Blazing scarab works nicely here as a moderator. If you're losing mp faster than boost and grace are recycling, you can shift away from the DDs and let blazing and your pet do more damage.

That said, I left mine at level 2 because I needed a "finishing blow" spell, for when the mob has just a sliver of life left and you need to kill it NOW (maybe your pet is dead, maybe there are multiple mobs, maybe you're about to die). I hated wasting the full mana cost of venomous in these cases, so I left blazing as my "low mp cost" damage spell. You only get the three damage spells at earlier levels, and ironwood and venomous are too valuable to gimp their damage.
