Low level grinding T_T

So I'm level 17 now... and seeing how hard it really is for an archer to solo grind melee enemies.
First off, I made the mistake of putting quite a few points (20ish) into Vit. and a bunch into Str as well... but the Str can even out after a few levels.
I'm having a hard time with any melee enemies at my level due to getting **** at close range. Still doing decent damage from far away though.
So, question one...
What do I do? Buy a melee wep for close range? I'm gonna eventually go broke from all the health and mp pots used.
Or...
Start over? Are all the points in Vit a biggg mess up? I really don't feel like starting over, but I'd rather start over than have a garbage archer. T_T
Lemme know guys.<3
p.s. I'll post stats if you want.

I'm not going to give you advice on the build other than, I know archers who put points in to vit. and I don't think it's a big **** up, but you might want to get another archer to confirm this.
I couldn't tell if you knew this or not from your post, so I'll just say it, archers do less damage close range, and that's not because of your build.
Kite. I had to do it as a cleric, and I can't see why the same wouldn't work for an Archer. hit the mob a few times, and run, hit, run, etc. Don't buy a melee weapon. Archers are not meant for melee, period.
If after all of this, you decide you want to be a pure dex archer, than I would just start over. At lvl 17, it's not worth it to restat.0 -
Thanks for the advice. :]
Ah, kiting? I tried that a few times in the earlier stages and it didn't seem to work too well because of the weird way youre like glued to the ground while shooting arrows. I'll definately give it a try though.
And yes, I did know about the close range .5% damage thing.
So yeah, I'll kite some more and stick to pumping Dex for a while. Anyone else feel free to add some more input.0 -
Kiting took me awhile to get but eventually you'll get better at it. At just stick with it for another 2 lvls where you get a skill called pushback..which pushes enemies back a couple feet allowing you to finish them off. With my archer I find it hard sometimes with certain enemies but you just have to fiddle with the skills a bit till you get a good combo to use against them. For the attributes its all up to you really I put an extra 5 into vit at the start just to bring myself a little up above the pure dex builds I dunno why but different isn't always bad. Hope that helps0

For kiting, you should be using skills and avoiding your normal attack. Most of your ranged skills have 0.6 or 0.8 seconds for casting time and 1 second channeling time. This means that you can use them in one second (both your channeling and your casting timers start together). Your regular attack takes longer to use, and sometimes keeps going.
Your basic "kite" move should be "use skill" and then hold down your movement button so that when your skill goes off you start moving.
If you find yourself moving towards your target when you use your skill, this means that you have plenty of time to be using another skill. Combos can make this work nicely.
Aimed shot can be your fastest skill, and one of your best "emergency" kiting skills. Activate this skill, then push your skill button again (or your combo button again, if this begins a combo) and you can snap off an attack in 0.6 seconds. You have to wait three seconds before you can do that again. You can use that time for moving or maybe for other skills.
If you have low level skills, you should have good power endurance when kiting. If you have high level skills you will end combat faster but may need to spend some time out of combat (meditating, harvesting, chatting, and whatever) because you will use lots of mana. But when you recover mana you will also be recovering health, and if you want to be efficient with your recovery time you can choose how to play so that your time to recover your mana and your time to recover your health stays close to each other.
Also, if you miss too much, or run too much, your target will give up and stop chasing you. So keep an eye on its health bar, sometimes you might want to take some damage so you can stay in combat.
I can not think of anything else that would be relevant for kiting with level 17 archers, but I probably have overlooked some things?0 -

That's not because of your build, that's because of your playing.
Archers do half damage and have a 50% chance to miss when in melee range. The exception to this is when they use certain skills, like that wing buffet thing, whatever it's called, and some of those lightning things.
Just make sure to keep the mobs far enough away. It'll get easier once you get knockback.Everyone here is ridiculously oversensitive.0 -
Thanks guys.

I have a lot of trouble kiting. D;
Sometimes when I do, my attacks will just not work. If I click or press the hotkey, I get nada. I have to stand still and take a hit or two before I can attack. T_T
Anything I can do better?
I usually kite with normal attacks cause I don't like wasting all my MP. I gotta use it to fly, y'know. :P0
