On choosing multiple weapons paths

I know most people say that you shouldn't do so until you're a good 8x but well... I started multi-pathing at about 40. So far the only downside I've seen to this is that it's a drain on my coin situation.
Other than money is there really any reason why this is a bad thing to have done? (Granted I've been rather broke because I seem bad at getting drops so I've got a good 200k sp banked up)
Currently my bm here is a pole/fist hybrid, with occasional bow use. While her vit isn't as great as it used to be levels ago (I was getting stuck as tank because between hp and p.def I was hands downs better at taking damage than the barb was at that time) I think that's the only real downfall I've seen other than I've focused too much on dex and my strength is lagging a little. Now I have to keep an eye on the next level armors to make sure I'm able to use the ones I need.
So while it might have been smarter to be a pole/axe type or something along those lines is it really that bad? I'm loving the added dex and it really does a wonder the rare times I duel.
Sorry if this came out all scatterbrained!

1) if you're gonig to multiclass, go with fist/sword, sword/spear/ or spear/axe. Doing any other combination stretched the minimums of Dex and strength, resulting in a mismatch and overall weakening of your stats because neither of them get high.
2) Well, there you have it. You go broke, which is important. Skilsl cost more coins than spirit, and if you have no coins you can't level either of your weapons quickly at all. Let's just quickly say that half of your effort goes into each of your weapons, resulting in a level 60 BM with the skills of a level 50 BM.
I know that's not nearly exact, but you make the point. Other than a few universals like Aoelian blade and Sutra, your skills will be weaker than they should be for your stage in the game, making it potentially harder for you to engage. Whether or not this is countered by your skill with using both of these together is entirely up to you, but you're setting yourself up for a hard route.0 -
Personally i don't see the point of having spear/sword. Spear and sword have very similar skills: range, knockback, aoe to make things simple. The thing is spear have the added bonus of having a stronger range, and linear aoe in its bleed and knockback. So why would a spear go for sword when he can go axe, and if a sword want to go spear he should have just do so in the first place.
I don't think spear/sword help each other as much as the two other path you mantioned. Fist build spark fast so you have infinte sparks for myriad sword stance, spear/axe have the strongest range attack and the most aoe. But I don't see any mutual relationship between spear and sword.0 -
They go that way not because they necessarily compliment each other well, but rather because the stats go that way. Axe/Fist would require very very high Dex and strength simultaneously, making it impossible to wield current equipment.
Those are simply the paths that would have the least interference stat-wise.0 -
i've got a dual build between axe and swords. started dual weaponing at 30 and its now 5x. i only use single swords/blades and i generally stick to dual axes/hammers. only getting a 2 new weapons every 10 lvls kinda saves a few coins, just make sure they are decent enough to last you till next set.
to stay up to par on skills i only train the skills i like, i dont waste any coins/ spirit on stuff that looks similar.
but really coins and spirit are never a problem for me, cause i grind about 90% of every level or so already.
i should mention i grind with a cleric i guess. but dual classing isnt for everyone i suppose. grinding with a cleric was the whole reason i started dual weaponing though, i couldnt keep aggro of multiple mobs while she healed me, so i got the axe aoe and problem was solved.
the key for whatever you do is to play to your strengths, thats why i grind rather than quest. far too many quests force me to fight ranged or magic mobs imo so i just stopped doing quests all together.0 -
I initally chose pole because the people I played with most often had already chosen sword and axe. I don't particularly play with either of them much anymore and while I still like the pole path I figured that since fist was good against caster types it'd help with my questing as I tend to solo quite a bit.
Some of my skills might be a bit lower but I haven't particularly noticed this so far to be honest with you. I level what skills I want when I can and haven't noticed it affecting my gameplay particularly.0 -

is it really that u dont have problem with coin an d skill point? especially lack of skill point
i am sword BM, and late level i think i should pick an axe and some axe skill to do AoE with priest to help me faster leveling.. and it is ot always, just in case i need to do AoE
about eq-stat requirement that axe need more str then sword..
because my main path is for sword.. i just do full sword stat.. for axe, i just pick up lower level axe than my current level so the str requirement can be fulfil0
