ok so i just started playing pw and i've noticed that there are a lot more bms with swords or blades then with say axes or hammers. i looked at the damage of the weps and to me it seems that axes do way mor then swords. so i guess my question is why do more ppl use swords. are thier skills just better or do ppl like how they look more or what?

i have no idea. Swords do have higher attack rate than axes though. Though considering I'm a poleblade bm, I can't say I know why people like swords lol0

As you can see , swords att 2/10 faster then an axe. by using an axe , your demage will be random such as 10- 30. Sword is more of an middle weapon like from 15-25. people use swords cuz they don't want random demage. Axe is also good in later lvls. Also sword is good for pk and axe is mainly for aoe in tw and grind on melees mob. b:victory0

Touche. I AoE grind at the wolves in Burning Heart. Couldn't do that with swords. b:victory0 -
Axes do outdamage swords. Especially at high levels. You may see more WR using swords at lower levels but higher up, 80+, most are Axe spec. Axes do more damage and level 10 times faster.0

I'm a bit curious about the AoE grinding. Unless your AoE finishes off the mobs you engage doesn't it simply aggro all the mobs you're after making them all jump at you? Or how many mobs you prefer to engage with your AoE's?0 -
You don't AoE attack everyone. The trick to it is to pull only 2 or 3 creatures at a time. It's still manageable at that point in terms of damage you're taking and dealing and if you can survive and not max yourself out. Especially this is true when you get all your AoE attacks and can deal damage to every enemy you aggro continuously. they fall quickly because of the high damage and it takes less time.
You'll burn through mana quickly, but you'll level 2-4 times faster than a sword bm or an archer taking on 1 at a time.0 -
If you spent all that mana for AoE on just 2 or 3 mobs, that's either a huge waste of time (meditating) or a huge waste of money (charms). Axe BM can easily solo AoE 6-9+ mobs at once solo even without a healer or charm. You have to know how to do it is all. Here's an example (low quality though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t32E0aaNH-k
Note, he switches to spear for meteor rush, but that isn't necessary, just saves you some hp.0 -
Just from what I found, but I can go through 2-4 rounds of killing 3 mobs on a full mana bar, then a simple 570 coins for almost a full bar. The drops much more than compensate for the coins spent.
Perhaps I'm just silly for using pots, but in all honesty I've found Pots+AMP+AGB+DS able to sustain me very reasonably through hours of grinding without ever being in risk and getting a few percent every few minutes.
Granted this may/will probably change later on at higher levels, but through the mid-levels this seems to be very effective.
Granted, my vitality is a bit low.0 -
so pretty much no mattar what u start out as u'll end up switching to axes late game? if thats true than can u actualy max more than one skill tree?0

AoEing 3 mobs at a time is a huge waste no matter how you look at it. If you're an Axe WR you should be able to handle at least 6 at a time if you do things correctly. If you can't, you are either on mobs that are too high level and not efficient, or you need updated weapons. If you watch the video I linked, that WR only uses 1 or 2 pots every 2 pulls. Fast and cheap.
You don't need to switch to axes. Its all preference. Axe WR is just the fastest solo leveler past 60. If you read the guide sticked on this forum, Lyndora recommends getting a few levels of Axe AoE spells if you aren't axe, and you can still do decent AoE grinding. Late game, Axe and Spear are the 2 best choices for both PvP and PvE however. Sword is ok, but Spear is better. Fist is terrible. Pick whatever you have fun with, but if you don't get some Axe skills, leveling will be slow...at 90+ every WR will max at least 2 trees, sometimes 3. At that point in the game, you have more than enough SP to train everything. What limits you is your build, which determines what grade weapons you will be able to wield.0 -
Well I'm just a sh!tty Axebm then. nevermind anything I say.0
-
3-6 mobs is a waste.
For AoE trainning you should focus on 12~15+ mobs:

And I'm not even Axe BM. I don't use potions, I use charm, but even the 15~30k of charm per hour is a low cost for the amount of experience and money you get.
Spear is not as fast as Axe when it comes to train, but it's indeed pretty close to it.0 -
Hard to AoE that many mobs solo at his level. Only decent AoE at 46 is above Fb39 and they are non aggro so you will take a lot of hits when pulling additional mobs. 6-9 is a good amount without using a heiro. I'm using a heiro on my WR and AoEing over there, and I still take a lot of damage pulling extra mobs.0
-
So you're saying I should focus AoE-ing on fb39?0
-
Not in Fb39, the area above it. The little squealing archers...can't remember the name right now. They're near the small town above FB39.0

EDIT: Nvm, here is another video of AoE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg9Ys0JpN6o0

thank you. Now when I stop consistently lagging at about 3-9 seconds I might just try it. I just don't understand how they can do that without ever running low on health. I have up-to-date equipment and weaponry, but I just keep taking large damage that limits me to 2-3 at a time.0

I reckon that you do what you believe in. **** those Axer and AOE Wannabes. They are just bunch of game followers who don't find out solutions. They just know how to make bunch of assumptions and throw out all the arguements without actually reach that level, or gain enough experience how to pk or duel.
There are many factors in this game affecting performance of your character. For example, the armors, shards you have chosen to use, and your stats, and your own pk or duel strategy. This game is very balanced from my experience. There is only best player instead of best weapon. Players who always convince others to choose best weapon, apparently, they are just bunch of Noobs.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
YOU JUST GOT OWNED b:bye0 -

The only part of this post you should listen to is the first sentence. Everything else is the rambling of an idiot in denial. AoE is faster leveling than 1v1. I hope this is common sense, but he clearly doesn't understand that. The experiences and opinions of the almost every high level WR, almost all of which are Axe or Spear, mean nothing to him. His way is the best because he chose it. Who cares about the experience of every other high level? He knows everything.0 -
wow ok this certainly sparked more descusion than i thought it would lol. i'm gona stick with the axe/hammer path for now but there are still 4 options in that path and i'm wondering which is better. i'm thinking that one is better to a certain point and then another becomes better or something like that. if thats the case then could someone give some guide lines as to when to switch. this is kind of off topic, i though that barbs did way less damage than bms but i read somewhere that later in the game barbarians get way way better than bms. is this true?0
