Lag Is Getting Worse

Ok seriously now...game lag is really getting worse. I'm perfectly fine when I'm outside of any of the cities, but as soon as I get even close to the wall on the outside of West Arch...it lags.

Lags so bad inside of West Arch that it seriously takes nearly a full five minutes to get from one end to to other. Too many people setting up their cat shops...the snow, etc...all causes the lag. It only got worse when you brought the snowmen and snow.

Didn't even get any better when you removed the snowmen. Something has got to be done...I mean playing as a cleric, I can't even heal myself, or other, let alone revive anyone due to the lag.

I actually was killed while in the middle of healing myself...due to so much lag, the spell would take forever to complete.

Which also means clerics who have to deal with so much lag cannot be depended on for their heals and revive either. In the long run, people will just say forget it and leave PW just so they won't have to deal with this lag...in fact I already know a few who have left due to this.

I mean how many have to actually give up and leave a game they enjoy so much, simply because you can't seem to fis this lag? It's really a shame...and this lag is really getting out of hand.

Doubt it since lage seems to be worse after the updates. I have a cable internet connection. Also I have no problems in any other game, or even on the internet. Also it is not only myself with this lag....I have spoken to many within the game who complain of the same thing. And when it gets worse the closer you get to one city, then it is the game and NOT one's internet connection.

Internet Connection is always blamed when one complains about the game. And when it's not just one but many people who have the same problem, and it happens in the same place within the game that means it IS the game. This needs to be fixed. Just because you do not have this problem doesn't mean others don't. Every game or rather downloads have some sort of problem with lag...and they always blame the internet connection...when it is clearly the game and the Developers or whatever needs to fix this.

It is NOT my Internet Connection...as I said it gets worse the closer you get to W. Arch.

Not necessarily. As you approach Archosaur, you're getting (often significantly) more data sent to your computer. If you experience any packet losses or have a poorly configured NAT/PAT setup, the more data that is sent, the sooner and more often relevant buffers will overflow and start dropping data that you perceive as lag.

Alternatively, a lot of players and users call system performance issues lag. It's not the servers or game's fault that these players slow down when trying to cram a hundred avatars into the bare minimum of RAM, but that doesn't make it more pleasant. Having worse performance that seems tied to the snow effect in particular seems to point toward a non-server-side issue.

I've run a few different client-server systems. There are cases where latency or dropped messages are server-side issues, but the vast majority of problems occur internal to the user's LAN, or by the curb.

That said, further information can help diagnose this. Can you describe your setup? Do you have a wireless connection to your router or modem, and do you have separate routers and modems? Can you provide us the output of a command prompt's (Start-Run, type cmd, click enter in WinXP, type cmd into the Start Search Bar in Vista or Seven) tracert pwigc2.perfectworld.com? The tracert will terminate at one of the border routers -- allowing ICMP messages into an internal network is asking for a big dDos attack -- but it'll give us a much better idea of how the connection looks.

Ok so if it's not the game then what? Seeing as things get worse after an update. I have not changed my Internet Services/Connections since I started this game a few months back. It had been fine when I had started. Even West Arch wasn't bad at all then...and then updates happen...and suddenly it's real bad.

So now I'm wondering how it could be on my side since all I do is start the game...it asks me to update after you've done a new update...and I can't even go any further until I have updated. So I see it being something in these update patches...seeing as nothing has changed on my end.

I did that TRACE you spoke of...when it got down to #'s 15-30 it said Request Timed Out on each of them. (No clue what that meant)

No I do not run a wireless...I do have a cable modem and run Windows XP. Thee is no routers, or anything extra running.

I rarely even have a browser running when I run the game to try and minimize this lag. So if there's Data missing somewhere down the line...it has to lie where the patches come from...since it is the game that automatically updates the patch, without me having to click/choose anything. As soon as I click on the desktop icon, and it opens up...it is already updating the current patch...nothing I've done or chosen.

As I said it was all fine when I started this game...and now after your patches it has gotten worse.
