lock mobs

Time and Time again people rant and rave about ks'ng or attacking a mob that another char has already engaged, Why not have locked encounters on these mobs?
Easy enough the second the mob is engaged by 1 player, The mob can no longer be attacked by others

Two people would have died last night had I not been traveling through the area and seen them running away from some nasty aggro mobs that I remember from way back then. I was nice and stopped and took them out for them.
Uber Bosses sometimes get people outside of party to help DD, etc. This would break that as well.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I would agree with Poison its fine how it is if you cant kill your monster fast enough you either one get ksed and still get a bit of exp and gold or two dieand lose exp because nobody can help you kill it or even weaken it buy trying to ks it ksing is a part of the game don't resist it embrace it it make you wanna fight for your monster and also gives people reasons to attack other players0

KSing, both on purpose and on accident, is a part of MMORPGs. You will never play an online RPG that doesn't have KSing. Suck it up, or go play a console.0 -
First time I EVER HEARD OF KS'in was like 4 days ago ... I was killing snowmen ... someone said KS'in to me ...
I thought it was very dumb ... NO LOCK ON MOB's[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
If you need me, just Meeeeoowwwwwww!

those people were wrong to accuse you of KSing snowmen, anyway:
KSing is when someone starts a fight, but you finish it for them -- doing more than 50% damage and thus getting 'credit' for the kill and dibs on the loot.
It simply.does.not.apply. to one-hit mobs like snowmen.
Even this guy's suggestion - locking the mob to you once you hit it, reveals the fault of thinking you could KS snowmen. If he hit the snowman to 'lock' it, it would already be dead so you couldn't violate the lock.
(incidentally, I agree this suggestion is incorrect -- locking a mob prevents assistance, messes things up when you try to run away from a mob, and violates the usual spirit of these games)0 -
well I kind of agree, i saw the mob lock work just fine in flyff, but perhaps the lock goes away after something like 5 secs of no attacks, that way if someone is running away, others can help to get them off their bums, but as long as you are actively attacking something no one else can harm the mob, making sure you get full credit and exp. Just an observation though.
I do think it is silly to say it definitely would not, or would work thought. its more of a preference then a functional fault.0 -
You do realise ksing is more of an issue than peple dying from people unable to help them kill a mob right? There are a few mmos out there that allow people to help others kill a mob or a boss with their permision a small window pops up asking to assist all you do is click its that simple no ksing no whining no nothing you can grind with no worrys and if you need help you just request it now if you think a request button is too much work thats a completely different story but yeah i agree on mob lock only if there is an assist button added to help people who actually need it thus stoping childish and noobish ksingb:victory0

Final Fantasy XI's claim system is what I like. You claim it, the mob is yours. No one else outside can fight said mob. They have to be in your party to help kill it.
There's ways of getting around the claim system on FFXI as well to steal mobs. But since alot of it's considered grieving and MPKing other players to do it you could get ban't or suspended atleast. But the GM's and STFU never do justice for players on that game anyway other than monthly RMT bannings.0
