Shaodu Cub

I recently bought myself a Shaodu Cub. I was very satisfy with it until I realized that it's very poor at luring monsters. After I cast roughly 2-3 spells, the monster would start to target at me instead of my Shaodu Cub. I set Flesh Ream as the automatic skill for my Shaodu Cub. I'm wondering if there's anything I can so that my Shaodu Cub can lure monster 100% of the time.
Golem was the last pet I used before I switch to Shaodu Cub and I had never encounter this problem. Is it the skill it uses or something completely different that affects luring of monsters? Thank you for spending time on this thread and I'll be even more appreciated if you post a comment or two! b:laugh

Do you or your pet do more damage? If you do than that is prob one of the problems.. your pet needs to do more damage in one hit that you do. Ive noticed this myself but it could also be the type of attack also..0

My Shaodu Cub can roughly do around 200-300ish damage while the golem can do around 350-450ish damage. My spells hit from 800-1100ish. My golem can lure perfectly fine while my Shaodu Cub can't; perhaps the Shaodu Cub is too cute? LOL... help!!!0

LOL it prob doesnt pose a threat to the monsters... b:chuckle0

Pay to upgrade the pet's flesh ream skill.
The shadou cub is a low damage, high tanking (phys and magic) pet. It can't keep aggro with its damage except at low levels. You need to keep its aggro-maintaining skills like flesh ream up to date.
Edit: Higher level folks are recommending bash over flesh ream.0 -
How much are each upgrades?0

Pet skill upgrades are 200k coin each, plus spirit. You can find the upgrade books at Ms. Zoologist in South East Archosaur.0

Ok, first and foremost.. What you are talking about is not called Luring, that is somthing entirely different.
A pets agro holding ability is not damage based. Forget that idea right now as it is completly wrong. It is based moslty on the pets skill and how far away you are from the mob. Roar is a great skill that pets can use to get lots of aggro, I add it to all my tank pets. The magmite uses bash by default which is another good agro building skill. I find when it is low level (1-2), I have to let the pet get in a hit before I start casting/healing then it will hold just fine. I have actually found Magmites to be terrible at holding aggro at higher levels without leveling the skills. I am not entirely sure which skills a Cub comes with offhand, but Fleash Ream is not the best aggro holding attack. A pierce, or bash would do better as a first hit in my experience.
Hope this helps....Exodus Director0 -

Ummmm...... yes it is, why do you think the high DD classes (Archer and Wiz) have such problems stealing Aggro from tanks???? The concept that is wrong is that the tank has to do MORE damage than the DD to maintain aggro.... when it actually takes a fairly large percentage more damage for the DD to steal aggro from the tank.......any Veno that is not doing more damage than her pet is a VERY weak veno, this only becomes a problem however when the veno is dealing a large percentage more damage than her pet.
Skills such as Roar are specifically designed to hold aggro, skills such as flesh ream are poor at holding aggro because it is small amounts of damage dealt over time to equal large amounts. Skills such as bash are great for holding aggro because they deal out a large amount of damage all at once.
To say that holding aggro has nothing to do with damage, well I'm afraid you're just wrong.0 -

FWIW the barbarian skill Flesh Ream is considered the primary aggro-keeping skill. Roar (Talk is Cheap) is considered a special-use skill. Speculation is that it doesn't generate aggro, it wipes the aggro table and puts the barb on top, making it useless for building or keeping aggro.
I had assumed the pet skills were the same since they have the same name and description, and since I couldn't find anything about the pet skills online. Your mileage may vary.0 -
Thank you all for your kind assistance. Last but not least, is Shaodu Cub good for training? Does anyone know which skill(s) is reccommanded for Shaodu Cub to level up?0

actually its quite simple to have a cub keep agro, you just have to change its primary skill from flesh ream (witch doesnt keep agro) to bash (witch keep agro real fine). and level up bash to keep with current level of pet.
bash1 -lv1-19 , bash2 lv20-39, bash3 lv40-59, bash4 lv60-79, bash5 lv80+.
and to prove my point that cub keep agro, i usually travel with a friend wizard who does around 2-5 time the damage i do, and cub still keep agro .
Hercules has same problem has cub, he use pounce as primary attack , stun but take 30 sec to come back. wich is not enough to keep agro.but once you replace it with bash, no problem wahtsoever.
as for my theory on why they keep agro even if they do like 10x less damages than wiz on the same party, has to do with the fact, that certain type of attack generate more threath that other (melee vs range).physical vs magical. or else everytime a wiz attack, he would have taken agro from whatever tank youre using, pet or barb.0 -

to level up pet real fast, youll have to understand, that the pet does not need to be doing the killing, but you (both pet and veno) are doing the killing.
you need to be doing at least half the damage if youre in a group (so better solo)
the max exp a pet get from killing a mob is 15 exp. so find the mob you kill the quicker ( usually around pet level +5) so if youre levelling a pet lv 10 , kill mob lv15. as soon as you see your pet getting less than 15exp per mob change mob. also some mob that dont have level on them (like snowmen) do full 15exp for pet.
so remember pet doesnt need to be the one doing the killing, youre a team.0 -
Uhm, b:shocked I have no problem keeping aggro off of me. All you have to do, is let Shaodu attack for a minute, then cast once, then back up then walk forward, heal and cast again. it's not the shaodu's fault, it's the owner. You need to learn how to manage your threat. Look that up. It's the same on most MMO's0

the cub defense is a little bit lower than magmite, not much. but has equal mag and phy def, so he is good for all purpose. i did only use cub before i got hercules.
and if you change his basic attack to bash, you dont have to wait 1 min before attacking full force, just 1-2 sec before pet never loose agro.0
