I am very frusterated. I'm a lvl 14 winged elf archer and have completed the quests for all manufacturing skills/trades (a long time ago). Every time I go to the Elder to turn in my "books" the msg. I get is that my skill lvl is too low, duh. I know that, that's why I'm trying to turn it in so I can start making gear, weapons, potions, etc.

How do I start manufacturing? (my skill lvl is 1, it needs to be 2, what do i need to do to get things going???) Thank you to anyone who can answer this. I really like this game and I don't want something like this to make me irritated enough to not play it!!!

Um, if you have the books in your inventory, go to the elder and click "Learn skill" or something like that. If you have the book in your inventory, it'll let you up the skill for some sp/gold.

If you did that already which it sounds like since you say your skill level is 1, you should no longer have the books in your inventory. Now you should craft 10 level 1 items at the blacksmith/tailor/whatever. Once you craft enough items, your skill will be at 100% and you can level it up again at the elder.

    You're not doing it right.

You need to turn in the books to go from level 0 to level 1.

To get from level 1 to level 2, you need to craft 10 items of whatever skill level you currently have. After you have crafted those 10 items (100% skill mastery), then you talk to the elder and you can purchase the manufacturing skills from him just as you would your combat skills from the combat trainers.

Open up your Skill List, the YinYang symbol on the toolbar.

Do you have the crafting skills listed there as being level one?

If so, you should be able to craft the first row of equipment. (Anything requiring level 1 crafting skills).

If you want to craft the second row of equipment (Which requires level 2 crafting skills), you will need to increase your mastery of the craft first, by making things that require the level 1 skill.

For instance, here is my level 1 Apothecary skill.

I have 0/10 mastery in it which means I have not made anything requiring Apothecary skills. If I go and create something, it will level up my mastery.

Here is my tailoring skill, which is also level 1, but I have created two basic things with it, such that I have 2/10 mastery in it.

When I create enough basic things, so that my mastery is 10/10, I just need to go speak to the elder and he will teach me the next level of the skill in exchange for spirit and gold. The books are only necessary to learn the basic first level of the skill.

Here is my Craftsman skill, which is level 3, just for reference:

i see. thank you, very detailed images. i'm not sure how to craft. i thought you either go to the blacksmith and click on whatever it is you want to craft and craft it 10 or more times. crafting is my problem. i have chosen to master in all there is to master. so, then i must go to each tradesperson and craft from them?

Say you want to craft a weapon that requires 2 grease, 2 pig iron, and a red jade.

The pig iron is found in "Iron Deposits" scattered around the world map, and you have to mine them for a second to get the items.

The grease is a monster-drop only item, usually from low level insect monsters.

The red jade can be bought from the NPC merchants named "Merchant"

After you have collected the items for this weapon, and you are the appropriate skill level to craft it, in this case level 1, go talk to the Blacksmith.
Ask the Blacksmith about "Manufacturing Equipment" and click on the item you want to craft, and then confirm it.
Crafting it will get you the item (which could possibly be better than the NPC version), and it will also give you a point of mastery.
To get mastery points you have to craft an item of your current skill level. Lower skill levels don't count. (Meaning you can't craft a level 1 item and gain mastery points towards your level 4 skill).

You can indeed master them all, it's just a matter of time and resources.
(I've personally been a bit lazy with mine and only really developing my Craftsman Skill)

my next question: where do i get crafting skills? from the tradesperson? if so, i went to all of them and ea. of them req'd a skill lvl above what i have. so i figured i had to wait until i reached a certain lvl as an archer to get those skills awarded to me?

After you attain 10/10 mastery, you talk to the elder about "Learn Manufacturing Skill" and you learn it exactly like you would your combat skills.

Perfect! Thank you very much. I have searched for 2 days trying to find a discussion on this topic. Thank you!!!! I am getting higher in lvl and I need better equipment, this helps very much:)

If you can, and have time post something like this for us beginners b/c I haven't found anyone who has broached this topic. I know for a fact that there are a lot of us out there using crappy npc, monster drops weaponry just to get by!!!!

There's really nothing at all wrong with using NPC or monster drop gear at low levels. At the point in the game I'm at, I've been getting new armor about every day or every other day. That'll probably change very shortly when I start getting into the 30's and the 40's, but until then, I wouldn't worry too much about your gear.

I mean, yes, you'll want it to be decent, but you'll probably outlevel it in a very short time.

Go to the starting cities to craft level 1 gear.
Each crafter can only craft a specific range of gear, so ADC crafters don't let you craft level 1 gear, starting city crafters don't let you craft above 3, etc.

Are you City of Plume?? I noticed that if I went to Archosaur my Blademaster was unable to craft any lvl 1 items. They were all lvl 2 or up. If I went back to Etherblade I could craft lvl 1 items.
Try going to City of Plume and crafting there.
