I generally prefer HP, as it protects you from everything.

Sure with hp shards you can survive more hits, but you still take the same dmg.

But with pdef shards you still survive more hits and take the lesser dmg.
And clerics have this skill "Vanguard" wich gives 40% more pdef (if i remember right). SO if you have shards in total of 100pdef then with the buff you get 140 pdef wich is great.

So I think in the end pdef shards are better, and the mdef side you don't need more cause you already have alot from arcane robes and your magic shell buff.

    60%.
And blademasters add another 60%. Total of 120% increase for each gem.

On the other hand, barbarian buff adds 30% extra hp.

    HP all the way
    1. you need to tank a lot of hits before pdef shards are better than HP, usually doesnt work too well
    2. HP shards protect you from both, magical and physical damage
    3. you basicly get 50% extra hp cause of the charm, so if you have 100 extra HP from gems it takes 50 more damage to tick your charm and then 100 more damage to kill you, thats a combined 150HP

i would add HP all the way because of reason #2 as stated above. Hp works for magic and physical where as physical defense just applies to physical.

And Deadbone brings up a very good point in his #3. With a charm, any +hp you add from your gems is actually adding +1.5x that amount. More reasons to get hp gems over phyiscal defense ones.
