First Game EVER

Alright. This is my first game ever (as the title implies). I've never played a console game (the guys that I've tried to get to teach me how to play a game act like I've been lobotomized) and, beyond solitaire and mahjong, I've never played a computer game. I'm so new I don't even know what questions to ask. So if there's anything anyone can tell me, I'd be very thankful.
Especially about this fox form thing. Everyone talks about it but no one tells you how to get it. And what are HP and MP, exactly?

I would say taking a trip to the beginers section of the forums would be a good idea and absorb as much as you can there.
fox form is aquired at level 9 for venomancer class you have to buy the skill to transform
HP = hit points when this hits 0 you will die
MP = Mana Points when this hits 0 you cant use any skills or spells[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Fox Form, so I'm guessing your the Venomancer Class then.
Basically fox form is turning from your human state to your fox state, its a skill you get at a very low level.
HP - Health Points - These determine how much damage you take before your character dies, let it hit 0 and you're dead. In this game, after level 10, you start losing a bit of experience points (more on that later). You can resurrect yourself by clicking on the first button that's lit up when you die, OR by pressing resurrect if a cleric resurrects you. Note that is you are resurrected by a cleric you will lose less experience points.
MP - Magic (Mana) Points- Same thing as HP but if it hits 0 you do NOT die, you simply can't cast spells. In Perfect World International (hereon ill call PWI) every skill (more on that later) requires the sue of MP, the higher level of the skill the more MP it costs to cast. Some spells require Chi and Spark.
Chi and Spark - At level 9 you'll get chi but you first must complete a quest (more about quests later) some skills require you to use chi. You'll notice that where your name is there will be a little green/yellow filling that goes up every time you use a skill or hit a monster (mobs) that is your chi, you start with 99. Spark is the same thing as chi except you get it at level 30 (and again at level 60) but only very little skills require a spark. To obtain a spark you must gather 100 chi. When you hit level 30 and complete the required quest, your chi bar will increase by 100 and you will get a spark. Spark looks like a little red diamond next to your chi bar.
Experience points (EXP) - You get these from various quests (nearly all of them) and by killing mobs. Experience points are required for your character to level up from one level to another. Not much else to say about this. lol (lol means laugh out loud).
Skills - Ah, skills! These little buggers help you level faster, kill things, and do stuff. To require skills you must first have the required Reputation to complete the Spiritual Cultivation quest, the required Spiritual cultivation, enough Spirit points, and enough coins to get the skill. Skills are range from level 1 to 10 and you get a new skill every so often (usually 10 levels). You can check what skills you currently have by pressing the R button in game. On that screen you see your current skills, active and passive. Passive meaning it's always on, active meaning you have to use it, or something like that. By pressing the skill tree button on the bottom right hand corner of the display box you can see your skill tree, this will tell you when you can get skills, level up skills, and what cultivation level you'll need as well as a small description of the skill. You can drag your skills from the display box (Active skills) to the bar on the bottom, then to use the skill, select a target (usually a monster) and either click on the skill or press the corresponding key(F1-F8, just don't press Alt+F4).
Quests - Quests are what you are going to mainly level on from levels 1-35, then from 36+ it will be a combination of quests and grinding (killing mobs for experience). To find your quest log press Q in game. If you have no quests listed you can press the "Find Quest" button on the upper lefthand corner of the Quest Box and a little display box should pop up telling you where the quest giver is located and their name. The best thing to do is write the coordinates hat a given down, along with the name of the quest giver. Then go to your mini map (upper right hand corner) and press the little arrow key (lower right hand corner of the minimap) and a display box should come up, inside you can type in the coordinates (with a space in between the numbers) and an arrow should appear on your screen, follow the arrow untill you find the quest giver. Quest givers have a little yellow/gold shield above their head, when you get the quest from them that shield will turn into a silver flag, when you complete the quets (before you turn it in) the flag will go yellow/golden again telling you that you can turn in that quest. Be warned though, not all quests are completed easily and not all quests are "real" quests, some are cash shop oreinted quests.
This is the bare basics, i hoped it helped, feel free to aks any more questions, dinner time!Back.0 -

Thank you very much for the information, I will remember it! And I will go to the beginners section and see what I can learn. b:thanks0 -

Oh my gosh! That's so much to take in, Nayiro, but I really get it! Thanks for the help. I was also wondering if/how I can change the view. All I seem to be able to do is look at my character straight on so I can't see where I'm going and I keep running into walls and stuff.b:sweat0
-
Right click, hold, and turn the mouse around. I think...i don't have access to the game right now, but that's how you do it i believe.Back.0

I don't have access to the game either right nowb:sweat but I will try that as soon as I get on! Also, can you and your pet attack two different targets at the same time?0

This might be a silly question, but do you know how to zoom in and out? It's the scroll wheel in the middle of your mouse. I personally use the "inverse" zoom (i.e. when I move the scroll wheel towards me, my screen zooms in, versus the other way around). If you're used to this "inverse" zoom like me, go to your bottom left hand corner. You'll see an icon that looks like a square with dots. Click that, and then make sure there's a check mark in the reverse zoom option (I'm not in game right now, so I can't check the precise wording).
Play around with those settings and see what feels natural to you.
As for panning your camera around, right click, hold the click and drag. That'll allow you to look around instead of only looking straight.
This might all seem crazy now, but look on the bright side! Almost all games use very, very similar user interface set ups (zoom, skill bars, options, etc). So once you get used to playing PWI, you should also be familiar with the user interface of all other MMOs out there.0 -
Yes but it is ill advised seeing as you have very low def and HP, you'll most likely die. Most Venomancers attack along with their petBack.0

Luckly, I'm a quick study (I've already gotten to level four believe it or not).
P.S.
What's a skill bar and MMO?0 -

Good to know. I don't want to be dieing when I've barely been playing a week! (What's def? and how do I get my pet to attack with me?)0 -

def is defense xD and to get your pet to attack with u go to ur pets attack bar you will see 3 icons on the far left of it, one will make it so you have to command your pet to attack, another will make it so that your pet will automatically attack whatever you attack(recommended for beginnersxD) and the other will make your pet attack if a mob attacks you and skill bar is the bar at the bottom of the screen that has all your attacks on it xD so there you go if you have any more questions just ask! oh i almost forgot MMO is just the type of game this is its an MMORPG!0 -
Skill bar - that little bar on the bottom where i told you to drag yer skills to.
MMO(RPG) - Massively Multilayer online (role playing game)
Def - defense, you have 2 types of defense, physical and magical, because your a venomancer your phys def will be lower then your mag. def. Armor gives you these types of def. Oh, don't add dexterity to your venomancer, you don't need it.
As for your pet attacking, im not sure, i don't have a veno b:chuckleBack.0 -
(Great!b:laugh You guys are so helpful ^.^ I thought learning how to play was going to be like pulling teeth but you guys are nothing like my gamer guys.) Alright, I'd also like to know why I see people just sitting randomly in the game glowing.
P.S.
What kind of character (I guess) do you have, Nayiro?0 -
lol yah definitely no dex and not too much strength usually i made the mistake of pouring a ton of dex and strenght on and it took me forever to get to where i could use weapons of my lvl again:(0

I'll not do that then ^.^ What kind of powers(?) should I use for my veno, then? And what's that thing on the left side of the screen? It looks like a chat... can I make it go away, it's really distracting?0 -
That's called meditating, it doubles your HP and MP regeneration speed. (press E, and look for a little stick figure sitting down surrounded by a circle, thats it)
Me, I have a Blademaster, and i love her.
Power?
You mean like Vit Dex Str and Mag?
All mag, and enough str for your weapon and armor.
Vit - vitality, it gives you more HP.
Dex - we discussed this, it increases your dodge, hit, and critical rates, but your a caster so you will always hit.
Str, how strong your phys hits are, once again you're a caster, you don't need this except to wield your weapon and armor (arcane armor), should be very low for you.
Mag- Magic, all your points should go in here, the higher the better really
but for tips on venos, go to the class section under venomancers.
By the way, what server are you on?Back.0 -
Luckly, I'm a quick study (I've already gotten to level four believe it or not).
P.S.
What's a skill bar and MMO?
A skill bar is a bar usually at the bottom of your screen labeled by "F1, F2, F3, etc" or "1, 2, 3, 4, etc." It's used as short cuts for your skills. You drag your skills from your skill list (the window you get by pressing R) into your skill bar, and then press F1 to use the skill.
In the case of Perfect World, you get two skill bars. One is the F1, F2, etc. keys (it should be that horizontal bar at the bottom of your screen). The second skill bar is the 1, 2, 3, numbers. It should be a vertical bar at the very right-hand edge of your screen.
You can also put things like potions in your skill bars (potions are items that you can drink to regain HP and MP when you need it -- other people call these types of items "consumables" since they can.. well.. be consumed ).
Other things such as pets and mounts can also be placed on your skill bar so that you can summon them easily.
MMO is actually short for MMORPG. A lot of us get lazy when we type, and leave out the "RPG" part. MMORPG stands for "Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game." That's sort of self explanatory: we're playing a role playing based game that is online, and has a massive internet population that can interact with each other (hence the "multiplayer" part). You'll see this term thrown around a lot when people are comparing online games, or when they're talking about the entire genre.0 -

that is a chat and you cant make it go away and u should mostly use vit(vitality gives you more hp) and mag(magic gives you more mp and makes your magic attacks stronger) strength will make yourphysical defense higher but you dont need that because your pet will take the hits for you and dexterity makes your critical hit chance higher but you wont need that mag also raises your magic defense xD
p.s. what server are you on i might be able to help you out in game.0 -

I heard someone talking about uhh... skill sets or combinations or something. It sounded like putting alot of skills together to make one move sort of thing. How do I do that? (Forgive the bad description)0 -

How do I get better at magic powers? I've got the poison thing but no other powers (I don't think). Do I just use that a lot?0 -

Press R for your skills, youll see on the last row a combo bar, click the "new" or "make new" and you can drag skills to the bar to make a combo skill so you only have to press one button and it sets off all the skills in order of what they where placed in, i personally dont use it because it's a bit glitchy sometimes and doesnt work, but it's personal preference.Back.0 -
to make combinations of attacks you press R and it will bring up a menu you press something like create combo and drag over the moves you want in the combo then drag it down to your skill bar and when you press its key it will automatically do those attacks useful for saving space on your skill bars later on0

to get better skills you go to the person standing next to the person who gave you your pet ( they are called venomancer skill trainer) you talk to that person and they will let you get skills you have to spend spirit and coins to get new skills and lvl old ones though and the reason we have that person is because we changed it I can't help you with that though i didnt do it from my computer i did it on my phone which is much different from the computer.
p.s. what server are you on?0 -

A server is like, the place you play on, there are 3 servers, Sanctuary (the one im playing one), lost city, and Heavens tear
To change your icon, go to Avatar, click on it, then there should be an option to change it, choose that.
Do you remember what server you are on?
EDIT: apperently changing your avatar isn't working at this time xDBack.0 -
Haha, I feel like we should set up a chat room for you.
Games typically divide their populations into "servers" to avoid overpopulation/overloading. Perfect World has 3 servers so far: Heaven's Tear, Sanctuary and Lost City.
You can tell which server we're on by the server name next to our character name, which is next to our avatar/forum icon.
And I'll let someone else answer the avatar question. I forgot! b:cute0 -
Ah! I'm on Sanctuary. Though I'm not logged on. (I'm on my mom's computer and it's got a really nasty firewall -.-)0
