Basically, I've learned the hard way luckily Geek Squad at Best Buy shed the light...When you uninstall PW, don't go under start menu, do it under the control panel under Add and Remove programs. If you don't do it, there's a possibility that your sound device will be uninstalled with it. No joke...5 trips to Best Buy. (BIOS) I'll say no more. b:victory
P.S-Let me know if you've had this problem before, or have lost any other components.

i just pooped.
thanks for the warning if its true.
*just checked its great advice as for me i don't even have PWI listed in my add/remove programs0 -
I would like to find a person who does not use control pan Add/Remove programs. Either way who would want to uninstall PW anyways?
BTW you dont make much sense by saying don't it it in start menu?
What exactly do you mean by that?
I think you are talking bogus anyways.I used to do drugs, I still do but I used to too.0 -
It makes pefect sense. A lot of programs have an uninstall icon under thier Start Menu specific folders.0
-
Well, that's not intended behavior. I can't replicate it on my machine. Can you describe your audio device and drivers?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

For the person who has no manners! I have one word for you...Karma. Treat people the way you want to be treated. And the reason somebody may want to uninstall PW, is to get rid of any software errors, and then reinstall. Now if you really want to try out this truth that I'm speaking go look for yourself and have some common sense.0 -

The control panel is accessed by start menu?
I don't think it's uninstalling PWI, I've done that before on XP and my sound worked fine.
If your sound isn't working right, reinstall drivers from the motherboard manufacturer. Sound disappeared for me a bit too, but I fixed it by taking out the graphics card from it's slot and putting it back in.0 -

that would be the logical not going to "geek squad" 5 times thing to do for a knowledgeable user though0 -

Must agree. Why bother with 5 times geeksquad , if you can do one time backup(document), and reinstall everything.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

oh come on mosz, don't call her an un-knowledgeable user because she didn't know how to fix the problem. you don't even know if she possibly "did" try doing that before she took it to best buy OR if what crystal said would even fix annabella's problem, could be two different issues. not everyone can be computer geeks you know. XD
you could call the people at best buy unknowledgable users tho, since it took them 5 times to fix the problem. XD0 -

anyone that goes to geek squad for help is un knowledged, no offense to them (seriosuly) there are plenty of prople that dont know about computers or using search engines efficiently
and most all geek squad workers follow a corporate flow chart and use repair/program disk they do simple things, they (mostly) suck, and HORRIBLY overprice their "services"0 -
1. Its untrue, if had 3 versions of PW and never had problems with uninstalling.
2. The button you click on the "add/remove apps" window does EXACTLY the same as the shortcut on the start menu.
what happened in your case was probably just something weird because you have a really exotic soundcard or w/e. There is always the 1/1000000 person whos pc doesnt behave th same as everyone else.
Thnx for the warning but its a hoax and a lil overkill.
Ps. 5 times?! wtf lame geek squad is that. Just call me next time =P0 -
The majority of you have taught me to never offer help again...even if its just my experience, because if someone had said on the forum hey you may lose sounds if you uninstall PWI that would have helped me knowledgeable or unknowledgeable. b:shutup b:surrender b:cry
P.S-Never tell someone who's trying to help that its a hoax and a little overkill. b:angry0 -
I know it seems futile and some of the replies have been less than gratefu, but don't let the negative responses deter you from trying to help, Annabella. You'll always get them from any forum such as this. Just ignore the negative stuff, as it won't go away and isn't worth getting worked up over. There is most likely someone out there that has had the same issue and was helped by reading your post, and that is definately what makes a post like yours worthwhile even with the worthless negative stuff that will be posted afterwards.
Just remember, don't wear your feelings on your sleeve in a public forum because the anonymity of such a place seems to bring out the worst in some people, and don't let the trolls bother you. You definately get a +1 from me for trying to help, as opposed to those that would rather tear others down.

i must crush you by reminding you there is an entire technical support forum where this should be located.0 -
well, if it hasn't been moved to the tech forum by now, don't worry about it. leave her be and quit trying to play moderator. >_>
and Annabella, please do keep helping and making your presence known on the forums. it seems most forums consist of like a 70-30 ratio of jerks to respectful people. if more of us stand up and make our presence known more maybe that ratio will get flipped one day.
and for the record, i have no idea whatsoever how people would think that your problem was a hoax. it's ridiculous. what motivation is there to make up something like that. just because they don't know how or why it happened doesn't mean it didn't happen to YOU. it's like....."waah, i can't figure out why that happened to you. you MUST be lying!" lol0 -

no its the fact that you cant trust most of what geek squad has to say as advice from them is like advice from a gypsy, seriously search engine geek squad review, or look at your local news most have done tests of various computer repair places and they often cannot identify the simplest of problems, misplace blame, overcompensate, and overcharge. i put more faith in the gms and mods here then i do in geek squad.0 -

I put more faith in most computer novices than I do Geek Squad.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
