Taming

I've never tamed anything and thought it was time I learned how. I'm level 12 and have been trying to tame things that are level 1 and have a green 'tamable' icon. After a couple of dozen failures, I figure that I must be doing something wrong.

I have the taming skill. I target the creature that I want to tame and click on my taming icon. It casts the spell and then the creature rushes at me with a red 'failed' message across the screen.

I would expect less than 100% success but I've failed over 20 times with no successes.

EDIT: I read that taming creatures that are close to death is easier so I've tried that. It's hard not to kill a level 1 creature in one shot even without a weapon. Those that live long enough are still failing to be tamed :(

Does the creatures level matter?

Do successes increase your skill at taming so latter attempts are easier?

It can't be this hard. I must be missing something.

EDIT Again: The level 1 creatures were either dying in one shot or going to 50% and at 50% I kept failing. I moved up to level 3 beetles that could take a punch and was able to get them to 10% without killing them. I succeeded quite often with them. I guess that's the key. Get them VERY wounded before taming.

    Well, first of all
    some monsters are not tameable. And it also matters what level your tame ablilty is. From my experince, I can say that you can't tame monsters too high for you, and probably it is the same thing when it is too low for you. I suggest you get something close to your lvl, like Petite Sawfly or the Riding wolf and see how it goes.
    Plus if you're attacking you can just cancel the attack with the Esc button.

    i know stupid question and everything, but i just started lastnight after midnight and still learning... but where do you get the taming skill.. and if already start with it, where is it? i have a lvl 11 archer and was wondering where to look? thx for the help.

    can any class tame? and what are the benefits of tamed creatures? Do they level up?

    Only Vecro can tame and yes they level up

    so any other class will have to wait until a certain lvl and then buy a pet?

    A tanking like venos have can not be used by the other classes though there are some pets which can be converted to be used by all classes.

    You can only get the taming skill if you are an untamed.
