Wizard Skill question
As a lvl 35 Wizard who duo's with a Venomancer, I'm wondering what skills I should get?
I have no desire to pvp, and I currently have Pyrogram, Gush and Stone Rain at max for my level. I'm also a full int Wizard ( just enough Str for my gear).
I figured I should get at least 1 lvl of Morning Dew, so I can heal us between fights if needed. But what else?

u forgot
-glacial embrace! IT IS A MUST
Divine pyro or sandstorm for your starter spell... but i didn't get them u don't reall need...
You should get atleast lvl 1 distant shrink in the later lvls...
get essential sutra
get will of pheonix
Aoe skills for 59 are for your preference
But do not get emberstorm
but in truth all you really need: 3 basic att spells..., glacial embrace, and morning dew.You seem rather,,, Enthusiastic...0 -
The following would apply to you assuming you exclusively party with the veno and you never solo. You have a unique situation that allows you to tailor your build to always having a tank.
Assuming the veno does not use foxform and uses a pet to tank and just DoTs the mobs and heals her pet:
Sandstorm - max to keep mobs missing the pet with attacks.
Morning Dew - L3 or so. Just in case.
Water shield - Take it as high as you want; +MP regen is always good to have.
If the veno uses foxform:
Frost Weapon - max as you go.
Sandstorm - max as you go.
Morning Dew - L5-7
Water shield - Take it as high as you want; +MP regen is always good to have.
If you find yourself with a ton of extra SP, start leveling a mastery.0 -
Thanks for the replies. b:thanks0

omg...y do ppl say u need galactical, its a good spell but it cost too much to lv up, and when you do get it lved, it wont have enough range to match your other skills its more like this:
pyro=max asap
gush=max asap
sandstorm= very important
stone barriar=max asap[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Range? they are talking about glacial embrace, which is the water shield. Not glacial snare.
@OP Aedril gave a very nice layout that I agree with. I'd also pick up distance shrink, but only a level or two. If the pet dies or loses aggro, it will give you an extra few seconds for the veno to resummon or take aggro back.
If you aren't going to PvP and you have a tank already, stone barrier would be pretty low on my list. As full int, your phys resist, even +100%, won't make much difference until much much later (if ever).~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
force of will. this is, next to distance shrink, the most useful skill in your utility belt.0

I don't understand why people think distance shrink is such a great skill. Yes it may get you a few more meters away from an enemy but half the time I just teleport into another enemy. I think phoenix and force of will are much better uses of sp and money.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

It's great in pvp... Mobwise you're absolutely right.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Due to your situation there are some spells that will be more effective for you than others. The veno pet should pickup "Flesh Ream" to hold aggro so you can dump on the targets. You can use your gush-pyro combination to work a mob fairly easily.
As the veno gains more skill he can gather several mobs for you so your AOE attacks will gain extra favor. One such skill that is almost never used is Hail Storm, its like a gush (with lesser slowdown) for all mobs in its admittedly short aoe range. This will allow you to hit all the mobs and doesn't do so much damage that you are likely to rip aggro. (a 3k hit on 4 mobs, is 12k dmg and is very efficient manawise, outside of this use though it is not overly useful)
Also in your situation your DoT (Damage over time) spells gain a use that they normally would not. Cast crown of flames or the earth spell on mobs that the veno is not targeting with her pet so that you can do damage to them but do not spike and grab aggro from her. (over all these spells do not ramp well and are not a good choice for a solo wiz, very useful in your unique sitution though. Also good for working bosses when your uncertain of the tanks ability to hold aggro)
Distance shrink is a last ditch effort here as you will pull the mob further away from the veno making it hard for them to get aggro again. Have it available though in case things get bad. Also its a MUST have if your a PvP player.
Your will of pheonix is a good spell to have if you do grab aggro, bounce the mob back into range of the pet so the veno can grab aggro again.
Glacial Embrace is a must have in your situation, the veno can kill forever, you'll be liimited by the amount of mana you have available. You will spend a fortune on pots or on an mp charm or apoth items during a several hour grind. Glacial Embrace will give you some small mana regen during this and in the long run save you MUCH money.
Notes and asides :
This skill selection will limit your growth as a solo wiz until you reach your high 70's when skill points are more plentiful. If your with your partner veno that long and are serious about leveling, it might be worth it for you though.
Maxing gush and pyro is primary and work with all of the wiz builds. If your on a PvP server, your earth barrier will take precedence over your glacial embrace.
With your gush you can kite mobs over to the veno to grab, the slow down will allow you to kite safely and the veno will be able to grab aggro relatively easy. This will place you in a position of pulling that is not normally the wiz's job but that you can do easily.
Your Blade Tempest (all 59 AOE spells) have the likely outcome of ripping aggro from a group of mobs causing the veno to struggle to keep them from you, use it as a finisher.
Dragons Breath can be used highly effectively, but you'll most likely take some hits (maybe many) during this. Don't use it until aggro is certain and not on too many mobs for the veno to regain aggro if you do rip it. You might do better to not level it very high, so its a low cost low dmg aoe, unlikely to rip aggro. Until your lev 59-60 when it should be lev 5 for zhen until your high 70's when it should be raised to higher levels.0 -

Why would he need stone barriar? he has a veno with a pet to tank. It would be better for him to have one of the other barriers active.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Dalamaar: Mizorie you have no soul.0 -
Stone Barrier is important when tanking as a mage, fighting earth mobs, or when on a PvP server.
Avoiding the gank is the only reason I can think of in this instance.0
