We can hope they only used paid GM in this game. When it is what buys your food and a place to live you get a lot more professional attitude since you have much more to lose. The volunteer GM's some games have can cause more trouble than they correct.

Never saw any job postings but then I suspect PWI is a very small company since they do not create the game. You probably have to know someone to even find out if they have a opening.

    Small company, your kidding right?

Perfect World Co., Ltd is a publicly traded company.

All of our GM's currently are paid, full-time employees. To work as a GM you need to be hired by Perfect World Entertainment and go through a screening process and various stages of interviews with several hiring managers.

Most of our GM's have college degrees and all of them reside in the San Francisco Bay Area. We do not allow GM's to work from home so living in this area is basically a must.

At the moment we are not looking to hire more GM's but that could easily change based on numerous factors. At some point this year we will have a job listings section on our main page.

On top of their wages, GM's are also allotted a daily ration of 1 can of soda, 1 bottled fruit juice or snapple, 1 bag of Animal Crackers and 1 packet of instant oatmeal. Industrious GM's will often barter their daily ration for other goods such as granola bars, beef jerky or a mug of hot chocolate.

    Perfect World themed animal crackers?

The following is blatantly goofbally, and does not represent PWE at all, unless it sounds good. then perhaps.

Our GM training program is like no other. You must be able to run a mile in 7 minutes. Our basic training setup will wear you out and break you. Then we build you back up and turn you into a real GM. The powers given you are immense. With great power, comes great responsibility. We work to make sure our GMs are some of the most responsible and helpful ones around. We have ancient secret Banhammer Katas that we teach to the younglings, so as they grow, they learn to smash firmly, but without regret.

The video game industry in the US is primarily based in Los Angeles, CA area, San Francisco/San Jose, CA area, Austin, TX area, Seattle, WA area with others in the NY, FL and Chicago areas.

Clock stealing, not cool Dvorak. b:sad

Being a GM takes a lot of patience. Tons of patience.

Actually, PWE (not PWI) is a large company in Beijing, China. The US branch of PWE is small, but boy do we multi-task like crazy and love our jobs b:victory

Perfect World International is PWI (the game)
Perfect World Entertainment is PWE (the US company)

EA and Nintendo are nearby. b:thanks

They really should hire some overnight GM's.

As far as where they companies are based, we've got Epic Games, Funcom & Redstorm out here on the other side of I-40 from Cali and several more: http://www.raleigh-wake.org/games/industry.html

Raleigh, and the Triangle have some there too, but the concentration isn't as high. b:pleased

For those of you curious where game companies are, here is an awesome map:

    http://www.gamedevmap.com/

Oh, and there are overnight GMs, just different rules for interaction (I think, this is an assumption).

That's good to know. I work days so I've never seen one. See tons of goldspammers and bots though, so my "report ****" button gets a decent amount of use. ;)

Am I the only one who finds it hillarious that the work-world makes people drive to some dull office on the other side of town just to do a job they could do 100% as well literally from any corner in the world?

But anyway, glad to know you don't make people GM just because they want leet powerz and a title next to their names.

I don't find it so hilarious since I'm stuck doing it. I can do my job from anywhere, but I still have to show up here M-F.
    b:angry

And the worst part is back when I could do it occasionally I would get more work done as I didn't have people constantly popping into my office bothering me.

The word I originally wanted to use was "****", but "hilarious" sounded more diplomatic... ;)

The Office, Office Space, Dilbert and Idiocracy are great examples of work and such.

GMs have awesome tools at their disposal (light sabers, tesla coils, 42-sided dies, etc), plus a sweet AI system that helps too. b:cool

    Office Space

My coworkers & I point out similarities with our job and that movie all the time. In fact, I was just moved 4 offices down after 2 years in my old office because they felt like "restructuring" today. (I kept my swingline stapler though!) Oh, and we had "The Bobs" here a few months back.

Mine is in the lunchbox at home next to the 360 where it shall stay so it never sees dust. At least PWE doesn't sound as strict about what can be brought in, I think people would be escorted from the building at my job if they had marketing for semi-competitors at their desks/cubes.

We're all total gamers here. We know a good game when we play one, even if they ARE a semi-competitor, heh.

As for myself, I've got a small army of Transformers at my desk. :)

A friend of mine knowing how much I like Starscream bought me a WST version. I already had one so the gifted one stands on one of my monitors at work. ;)

BTW, it is really nice "getting to know" some of the GMs for a change.

Search the interwebs. We aren't allowed to officially say anything.

We are gamers. Transformers and other geeky fandom objects are at the office for decorations too.

With Perfect World specifically? If so then no. Our only offices are in California (Redwood City) & Beijing.
