DEX STR VIT Mean what?

I'm sorry for the n00bish question but what exactly do DEX STR and VIT do?

I know they mean Strength Dexterity and Vitality. But what do they do?

Strength - Increases damage you hit
Dexterity - ????
VIT - ??????

    You can hold your mouse over the abilities on the stat screen, and get a basic understanding of all the stats you see there (hit C)

    Strength also increases your physical defense as well as attack. Vitality is how much life or health you have, basically. Dexterity is something about critical hit rate, as well as a few other things, and Magic is how much mana you have. Like Moander said, for a general understanding open up your character menu and hover your mouse over the different things to have a basic description pop up.
