Do mages have heaps of spells or only 1 that casts by it self over and over which eventually gets stronger?

Every class gets somewhere around 30 'skills', all of which can be leveled up to make them stronger. Some of which are passive (i.e: you never 'cast' them - they're always in affect).

I don't think mages get any more or less than anyone else, but are they are much more reliant on them then most other classes.

I see mages use different spells, and a quick look at a mage guide that I checked a while back supports that. So it's not the same spell over and over again.

However, you rarely get games where you use a wide range of skills; it's usually just a few. Don't expect the mage to even level up all those 30 skills.

That's correct - first off, around 20th level you'll start having more skills available then SP (Skill points) to spend. So you'll have to pick and choose between them.

Some become obsolete at higher levels (replaced by better versions)

Some are better for PvE, some for PvP

And some just aren't worth much ;)

Go to the Wizard forum and read the guides - they'll help you pick out which one's you want. I can tell you that I played a wizard up to about level 23, and at that time had 6 skills (or spells) that I actively used.

No, you have to choose what skills you would want. Like most games, they don't allow you to get every single skill in the game from the start to end. You have to decide what you'd like your character to specialise in...
And the spell would still cast unless i think if you're stunned? (need confirmation on that)

I have roughly 15 different attack skills that all have different properties and uses, and I make use of around 10 of them quite regularly. There are others like the shields, distance shrink, and force of will that I use very often as well. It's not like say, a venomancer, where you spam a single spell for pretty much ever. Due to cooldowns, skill effects, mob types, and elemental advantages/disadvantages, you're forced to use different combinations of skills for different situations.

Skill interruption is not 100%. It's a far lower number than that, but it's enough to be annoying at times. It's best to just avoid being hit altogether. Stuns, seals, sleeps, etc will interrupt if they are successful.

Specialization isn't necessary as you can max everything in the end. If you skip certain skills here and there and wait until later to up them, you can "specialize" in all the good stuff that keeps you leveling quickly and safely through all the skill trees until you reach the end of the SP crunch period. Speaking of which, you do have a bit of an SP crunch in the lower levels, but later on it's more about what you need and how much coin you're willing to blow on skills at the time.

In my personal opinion, being a mage really worth it in the end. perhaps it's hard at first, but by the end of the game, a mage's attack just purely awesome. A Mage is a late bloomer, but once he/she blooms, they blooms beautifully.

Have seen mage lvl 69 months ago... dang, that one girl was totally dangerous! ^^.... and she was only lvl 69, just imagine if she keeps on leveling!
