From what I have heard, there's no actual need to max your elemental shields as and when you get them.
I personally max pyrogram, gush and stone rain as I am able to get them.
I've only gotten level 1 divine pyrogram and not any more because it takes way too long to channel in my opinion.
I've also gotten 1 level of hailstorm. Bad move. Don't get it.
I have yet to try anything more than 1 level of pitfall; only got 1 level of it as it doesn't really slow much, gush's better.
That's about it. Have yet to get to 3x though, so I can't give you much advice.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Most experienced wizards will tell you the starting skills (gush, pyrogram, stone rain) are invaluable and you will be using them forever. When it comes to glacial snare, sandstorm, and divine pyrogram though, everyone has their preferences. Personally I'm fond of sandstorm and thus give it the most attention of the three, with slightly less to snare, and I left divine pyrogram at 1 (I hate the channel time) until 59, when I got sutra. Now I'm slowly leveling it up to improve my sutra PvP combo.
As for the other skills, it depends on your build. If you'd like to learn more about the skills, look around in this section of the forum for Haiz's thread about wizard skills. `-` No sense in me typing up what's already there. :d
Oh and hailstorm does have a use if you're a high offense build, sort of. You can use it after you crit a boss with another skill to keep dealing damage to it without having to pause, providing your crit didn't put aggro on you. Same with the DoTs, but I wouldn't recommend either unless you trust your tank. It's not worth the sp at all though unless you have some to spare, and leveling it past 1 isn't a good idea./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

im new at the game so eXuse me but, how do u make 1 skill stronger then another dont they go by lvls?
i mean i have stonerain lvl3 but gush lvl 2, and gush is the second skill u get WTF!?!?
plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
It shouldn't work that way. Check your skill trainer again to see if you left something out or mixed the two spells up. If there isn't a problem with the above, try contacting GMs or just re-roll into another mage/class.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

im 100% sure stone rain is lvl 3 and gush is lvl 2.
so the skill lvls go by your lvl? i mean in lvl 13 im migh get gush lvl3 or is the game messd up for me ??0 -
Yup, by right you should have gush level 3 at level 13, 4 at 18, 5 at 23, and so on...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Keep in mind if you don't have enough sp or coins to level a skill up, you won't be able to until you get enough sp and/or coins./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

u use divine pyo for the first far hard hitting hit..the rest u use the faster skills.Dont listen to the fools that tell u not to lvl divine..lvl it slowy imo.Never use it after the first hit unles u know u can take that monster out or the monster wont pwn u with its hit to bad. Also you will be crazy not to lvl sandstorm..that skill pwns and i have it at lvl 2..its a very hard hitting skill and drops the accracy of the monster attacking for 10 seconds AND IT WORKS wich will by you time to get some good dmg in also helps in parties as well for tanks.0

And I said you don't max out divine pyrogram until you're at least 59+. I left it at level 1 like someone else has already said.
Oh and youngsly all you did was copy and paste that from another thread.0 -
soooo it still help him so what if he copyed and paste. if the thread is already up shouldn't we use it to help players...duh0

Normally when you're offering someone else's information, you add in some way that it came from that person. Should link to the original thread tbh. It's not right to try to take credit for someone else's things.
I never said anyone had to leave it at 1, I just said it was a personal preference and I prefered spending my points elsewhere during those levels. I don't particularly like being needlessly slow, and I didn't find the damage worth it when I could kill whatever it was in the same amount of time using other spells. I got to where I am just fine without leveling it, and I caught it up very quickly for my Sutra combo with leftover points from hitting 60./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

I'll side with haiku here on the divine pyrogram. **IMO WARNING** It didn't impress me at all when I first got it and sandstorm is clearly better than it (pre-sutra and yes I know sandstorm comes 20 levels later). I never leveled it because at level 1 I couldn't justify leveling it as my leadoff, I had stone rain for that. Save up all the SP you can early because once you get into your 40s there's going to be tons of things you WANT to level but SP dictates otherwise. One change I would make now is to ignore pitfall. I'm in a huge SP crunch at 45 and my pitfall is level 3. I wish I could drop it back to level 1 and get a SP refund, I haven't used the skill in 10 levels. Eventually it will be useful but right now its not better than any of my DD spells.0

i'm a huge fan of divine , it's a great first-hit-skill to start off your combo ;o (before you level to get sandstorm) besides ,it's AMAZING in satura , mages are great in sniping ;o so a satura combo starting AND ending with divine is justWrathy

Pitfall is more of a finisher, you can use it to save mp/finish off a mob with low hp. It's more useful for people who use patakas, because they're more likely to not finish a mob half the time. That sp crunch around there sucks, but it's the coin costs that become the problem later. 120k-130k to level a skill is QQ.
Wrathy is proof that there are people who prefer divine, and that don't. o: I agree with sutra though; I leveled my DP from 1-7 in one level and two per sutra means people don't know what the hell hit 'em, if they even survive to see the second one after sandstorm/snare./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

The point is you're acting as if its you who said that and typed it all out.
Divine is also the weakest of your so called "starting" spells and doesn't even give a side effect as well which is why it has been mentioned you don't even level it until you are 59+ and have sutra. Like said before by many others there are plenty of better spells to waste your SP on when you're a low level. Personally at my level, I have all of the skills at level 10 except glacial snare which is at 9 and only because I'm not high enough to get it to 10 yet. They all have their time and place to use, and **** barbarians with sutra is where divine pyrogram is best used. It's really the only time I use it actually.0 -
rofl after reading all the pros and cons im kind of confused xD I heared it's possible to max out all skills - so this here is only a discussion about the order right?
is it possible to take every skill on lvl 1 to see what it does without getting a lack of points?Wizard lvl 190 -
You can max them all later, yeah. Most skills you need to level to 1 to progress to the next skill, but a few you need more of... only one that comes to mind right off is you need 5 wellspring quaff to get essential sutra at 59. A skill you never actually have to put points in would be hailstorm, because it's nto part of a tree. You have a crunch for sp normally around 3x-4x, but around 5x-6x it becomes the coins that dictate if you level a skill right away or not (if you're like me and can't set up shop at night, that is)./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

i think in terms of pve, divine is superior to sandstorm.
they need exactly the same time to hit but a mob gets aggro on you after channeling time (not after actually hit). with divine you waste 1sec for animation, while sandstorm takes 1,5 sec of time you cannot do anything.
the acc decreasing effect is good but in pve the mob shouldnt even get to you to attack.0 -
Divine pyrogram has 2994.7 damage at level 10, sandstorm has 4288.4 damage at level 10. I'll let you decide which can be the better starting spell.
For starting spells we are only looking at dealing the most damage because it is not chasing us yet, so we can take as much time as we want casting. Basically we want to hit is as hard as we can for the first strike then use the quicker casting spells afterwords.0 -

Thats true, but I usually go for spells that has the most distance lately coz sometimes i dont get enough time to gush. (When Glacial snare doesn't slow, etc)Originally Posted by Pandora - Lost City:
