Offline Status??

I looked into the faction window to see who was online and a freind of mine was so i mssged him but said he was offline, I looked in my freinds list and sure enough he was offline, why did the faction window say otherwise? Is there an option or a way to make yourself offline even though your online or is that some bug in the faction window. I wasnt blacklisted so thats not it.
While i was questing with another freind I asked him if he seen our online/offline freind and like me he wasnt online in his friends list but he was online in the faction window. Whats going on here?
Any help would be much appreiciated.

    Faction window is vaguely bugged it only refreshes if you log out then in.

    Actually, there is a small refresh button in the faction window (looks like 2 arrows in a circle) that will update it.

    EDIT: Forgot to say the button is in the upper-right corner.

    the refesh button doesn't refresh properly, you'll still have some people as online who are offline and vice versa. And you still won't see people's real levels. The only way to completely refesh the list is to relog.
