Shaodu Cub question

I've purchased a Cub today, mainly because it's so adorable >.> not to mention everyone is swooning over how good it is.

I lvld it up and it's now lvl 40, my veno is lvl 41. Now, when I kill lvl 40 mobs the cub can barely hold the aggro unlike my magmite, who barely ever loses aggro.

What causes this? What have I been doing wrong? And what can I do to make my Cub hold the aggro longer so I don't get at least 1 hit off each mob?

While I'm at it, is there any skills the Shaodu cub MUST have that don't initally come with it?

Thank you in advance!

You MUST lvl the bash skill. Otherwise, it will lose the aggro.

You're doing nothing wrong. The bear cub just comes with a low attack stat.

Here's a web page that compares the stats of some of the most popular pets when leveled to lvl 90:
    http://www.ecatomb.net/petstat.php

I've never been rich enough in time and/or money to get a rare pet, but sometimes even though a pet gets glowing reviews by lots of venos, it's still subject to the veno's build and preferences. Take the frog for example, people in the Malaysian servers are crazy about the frog, saying that no other magic tank comes close (i.e. kitten, bunny, antelope, etc), but I know venos who prefer the antelope or the kitten over the frog. So now I'm stuck mulling over whether to fork out the $$ just to try the frog out. but i digress b:shutup

As far as I know, the bear cub is so popular because it comes with a stun skill that is otherwise only available in special events. Some venos find it very useful in pvp because venos have very few stun skills themselves. But like Rea said, you can always tinker with a pet's skills to make them better. Flesh Ream isn't very good for keeping aggro because it's a damage-over-time skill, but it's very good for pvp. Bash deals out a lot of damage in a single hit, and is good for keeping aggro. You'd have to buy the skill from Mrs. Zoologist in south east Archosaur to get it for ur cub.

As haku said, Bash is the skill of choice for holding aggro. If you want to pve tank with your cub then you need to buy the skill and switch it for one of the other skills it already has, I would suggest Pierce if you've been leveling your Ironwood Scarab skill, otherwise switch it for Flesh Ream.

Uhh Nevermore, I am lvl 65 with HH lvling a lvl 49 shaodu and I rarely lose aggro.

If you're new with veno, did you know you can have ur pets use multiple skills just like you?
    cub runs faster so...

    - before you go cast send your pet to attack the mob.
    - while the cub is running towards the mob, change its attack from flesh ream to pierce (or vice versa).
    - now when the cub goes up to the mob, it will *still* use flesh ream immediately followed by pierce. This may generate the aggro you need.
    - follow by pounce if its recharged
    - then you go in and spam a few spells, you can feel yourself getting aggro again but luckily cub's flesh ream is recharged.

    rinse repeat.

if you're going to pvp with the cub, make it learn rippling bite.
theres another skill used to steal aggro and I forgot the name.
and as another have said bash is a good aggro holder cus its an instant spike damage.

i don't really like the bear... i had the same problem... i replace one of my bear skill with bash and upgaded it to lvl3 but i still have problem at lvl53... the only wayt for it to hold aggro is keep spaming all the skill bear has mainly because i use 3 star weapon everytime on the 2nd spell i offen pull hate. so in the end i replace my bear with a frog because bear just doesn't cut it to be a good tank. frog and golem holds aggro alot better than the bear and helps kills a mob faster 2. the catch it u have to replace and give new skill to the frog and it cost a lot. but that's just me... i like my froggy over my bear. it tanks caster like nothing...

I myself use the Shadou Cub with little to no problems. The best way to do it is replace pierce with bash. This holds aggro when used along side flesh realm, I also suggest you level pounce as it has saved my life countless times in pvp just at level 1, also it maxes at level 2 so it is not an exspensive skill to train.

If you have more than 1 mob attacking your cub it is wise to have it do damage to each monster attacking it before you heal it, or you will take aggro on the monsters it has done no damage to.

    I hope this helps you!

You will need the little bear in TT runs or for boss killing. I never used my cub in common mob killing pve, he holds agro horribly, too low attack. Glacial walker or dark wanderer do the mob killing part much better. So it may be reasonable to keep the cub lvling (use cube of fate) and after you reach 60 you can do TT solo mode with him easily up to 2-2 (futher I myself did not go yet). If you have a dd helper on TT/bosses you may level agro skill, if you plan to solo all, no skills are actually required. Or if you got money, teach him legendary skills and make him an ultimate tank pet that only herc can beat.

I'm a lvl 83 veno with an 81 cub, I find no problems with the aggro. I find that Lucky Scarab steals aggro most of the time, so I don't use it until the mob is 50% down. My cub doesn't have Bash btw >.> I just maxed out its Flesh Ream and stun, so if I do steal aggro, which rarely happens, my pet can stun it and then get aggro back with flesh ream.

I would replace Pierce with bash

Roar is a viable choice for reseting aggro as well

for tanking = replace pierce with threaten

If u are rich , delete all skills , put bash as first default skill , followed by roar , threaten/howl , and tough then max bash and tough first . However u will lose Pounce and that strategy costs a lot .

Also , slow down ur dmg , if u keep Flesh ream as default skill , dont open with lucky or ironwood , let the cub build a bit aggro, while u attack with noxious or venomous
