Why sawfly?

Well, after levelling that thing to almost my level... I'm a bit undecided on it. It did help a lot with taking out that quest boss on Heaven's Stair and the Cloud Dancer things --- the Magnite isn't particulary useful against these --- but I'm still wondering whether it was "worth" levelling and now keeping the level up, compared to just grabbing an air pet when I need one (how expensive does it get to throw them away? I noticed that it was rather costly to throw away the turtle I used to take out Elder Turtoise...).
I seem to heal it a lot when I use it --- and considering I'm still far behind with catching up on quests I often use it against stuff that's several levels lower, and it still takes a lot of damage. Is that because we're talking ground monsters vs. air pet here? It wasn't exactly an air golem as well, though... does that mean the other air monsters are even worse?

The sawfly does not have all that great defense, but it has a high attack power. Thats the key. Mine is level 62 and I use it often.Main characters

It gets pretty useful from time to time. My main ground pet is still my golem but there are cases my golem would be useless/almost useless to have. Also the petite sawfly is supposedly the best pk pet once it gets up there in levels.0

You can always experiment with other flying pets. The low defense of the fly can be a disadvantage when it leads to you casting 'heal pet' more then casting damage spells.
For PvP the low defense is of little consequence because opponents usually don't pay it attention and go right for it's mistress. In PvP you'd probably also equip it with different skills then in PvE.0 -
I like the damage the sawfly does, but ya, the defense isn't that great. My friend has a foxwing he likes. So I'm thinking about trying one of those out to see how it goes.0

1) big damage
2) in order to grind decent experience you need to grind air mobs (more exp)
3) in PK wars it is often in the sky.
4) speed
5) decent enough mdef and pdef.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I see...
Well, PvP is not my concern, so any advantage it might have there is irrelevant. I'm not worrying about pet skills at all right now --- when I found that underwater pet guy, I almost fell off the chair when I saw the prices, and there's no description on the skills either.
Not sure about speed... I think the golem is very speedy. But then, I never intended for the fly to replace the golem --- the golem was meant to be the ground pet, the fly was supposed to be the air pet. I just run it on the ground all the time because there's almost no air quest :-) I never read a lot about water pets, so I'm currently resisting the temptation to try and complete the set.
Damage... I seem to remember something about a 50% penalty when attacking ground monsters, and so far there hasn't been a lot of air combat. I actually hope it stays that way; it's pretty difficult to guess distances, so I often got aggroed. Takes too much time.
But ok... right now the fly and the golem are at the same level, and the plan was to keep them both up to speed. I guess I'll stick to the plan for now :-)Yindra --- Lvl 64 Venomancer (Sanctuary)

Don't worry about the water pet-- there aren't that many water quests early on. Just tame a water pet close to your level to use for whichever water quest you have and ditch it after wards. At level 80-something you can tame the heavenly fish (or whatever it is called in this version)-- that pet will be your main water pet. And after level 80, you will have quite a few water quests.0
