Veno Build Help D:

I know there are like tons of different ways to make a veno, and I'm really second guessing my build. I don't even know why I started this way.
I want to be a mage/arcane veno. I basically want to do the most damage possible with my spells.
Right now I'm going 9 magic and 1 strength every two levels based off a veno's influence when I was a lowbie.
I'm really starting to wonder if this is the best way though.
I'm 42 and my stats are:
Vit 13
Str 33
Mag 169
Dex 24
Should I change what I'm doing or is how I"m going about it fine? I know I'll be nice and squishy, but as long as I'm doing as much damage as I can I'll be happy.

Maybe I'm too squishy...level 33 scropion killed me ><0

Yeah haha. Try upping your Vit more, and you really don't need Dex as a Veno either.0
-
Someone told me Dex will affect our crit rate.
Im trying my hardest not to put alot into vit xD I don't want to sacrifice damage for hp.0 -
I have tested a new build.
everey round lvl 3 dex and 2 str
every unround lvl 2 dex 1 str 2 vit
I wear light armor and fast claws
I use only pets, who decrease enemys armor
pro:
beat everyone, wich small dex (PvP) b:victory
con:
blademasters with good dex beats me b:surrender[SIGPIC] [/SIGPIC]

I really don't want to go light armor build. I want to beat people with my spells not my melee.0

Light armor build can be a spellcaster, that's what I play.
It looks like you're going robe though, which works out great for PVE.
What you really have to worry about though is keeping your pet alive, and making sure your pet keeps aggro as much as possible. With robe build, basically anytime you get aggro from a melee mob, you're going to be in trouble.
You basically just want enough strength to use your current level's weapons and robes. You don't really need any dex at all (crits aren't that important for a venomancer's dps because half your damage is done by your pet anyways). Vit is up to you, add it as you see fit. You can survive with just 5 vit, and put HP stones in your armor like pure light armor veno's do, or add in a bit, you get some flexibility with a robe wf build.
Everything else should be in magic.
To keep aggro on your pet, make sure you have a pet that can deal decent damage. Also, i find that sending the pet in with Bash as an opening skill takes aggro nicely. Once you make some money, you can upgrade that. Or buy the aggro skill if you're still having problems (its called howl or roar maybe?)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
So basically you're saying I could keep going with the same build ( 9 magic and 1 str every two levels), but add either a couple vit or some hp stones? I feel kind of bad not using those sockets for magic attack lol.0

I am fairly certain that there's not much damage coming from the pet. If I don't use offensive spells it'll take the pet so long to kill something that I'll spend more mana healing it then when I'd have made the kill with spells.0

You can't put matk stones into armor; they'll add mdef. You don't lose anything by adding HP stones into the armor, though yes it would be wise to put matk stones in your weapon. HP would probably help you more than pdef in almost every situation. A "pure int" veno would be a build with very high PvE emphasis, so as an above poster said, vit is up to your discression.. though most people do get some.
Most robe casters I know went 7 2 1 (mag vit str) every 2 levels for survivability and because too much damage can take aggro from your pet earlier in the game anyway. If you want more crit, I would recommend crit gear instead of adding agi (at least, for a caster). Also, if I were you, I'd just use the gold trading system to buy a reset to take all those points out of agi and place them into mag/vit. The str will be appropriate in a few levels on its own if you stop adding for a while (keep in mind the reason for 1 str every 2 levels is to meet armor/weapon requirements, no more than that unless you're melee).
I personally prefer the hybrid veno (makes use of both trees, no vit, light armor) over being a caster because spamming venemous scarab by itself all the time was just way too dull for me (I started as a caster and converted later).
@turtle, that depends on the pet you are using. If you're using a "tank" pet such as a golem, that's definitely true if you want to kill mobs quickly to grind. If you're tanking a boss with your pet, it's much more important to keep it healed of course (esp later if you plan to solo TT 1-1 around 60-63). Try killing flying enemies with a pet petit sawfly that is the same level as you and you'll probably see a big diff./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

Wow I never knew putting magic stones into armor was only for magic def. Makes sense though xD I def think Ill start adding 1-2 vit every level so I'm not entirely so squishy. How much dex do you think I should keep if I were to use the reset item? (Btw anyone know how much coin those go for?)
Thanks a lot for the advice. I generally don't go magic classes so I'm utterly clueless on them!0 -
You can drop your agi as low as 3 using the resets. I would say if you're in it for the damage and purely casting, go ahead and drop it to 3.
To see the prices on resets, go to the auctioneer and pick gold trading, then look at the prices people are selling 1g for. The resets are in the cash shop, and the prices are 3g/5g. In LC, 5g is about 500k-600k. Not sure of the gold trade prices in HT/Sanc. If you can't really afford to do that yet and want to wait, soloing TT 1-1 in your low 60s would be a great way to make the cash without losing much./Haiku/ -- Cognitive atrophy at its finest.

This is my opinion but a veno ONLY needs strength and mag. I personally put 1 pt in str and 4 on mag every lvl you DO NOT need vit your pet takes damage and you deal damage so it would be good to have a pet with good def and hp.but if you wanna kill them fast just get a fast pet with high atk.But this is only my opinion0

thanks for this thread cuz i have been debating on LA v AA for quite some time =3= i love crits & i know you can look for dex+ gear or so & crit%+ as well but ive always been afraid that would compromise with the good gear such as TT or nirvy or lunar
i did even think about going for HA too but only for tw ;o & i didnt want to do that since my faction isnt too heavy on the tw yet, but might possibly? we arent so sure ourselves. regardless, i think being a hybrid would be best for my playing style x3
& like others have posted, hp + pdef stones will work perfectly for any build xD
thanks again for this thread b:kiss0 -
I personally wear a mix of light and heavy armor but my magic hit is lower.
For you, I'd recommending up-ing your vit if you don't want to die so easily, though your pet SHOULD be taking most of the damage (exception is PvP because players know to attack the veno not the pet). Str will make your physical hit harder. Vit will INCREASE your phys/magic defense. Not strength, and it makes your HP/MP bar longer.
I personally have 51 Vit and at level 57 have almost 2k HP. (1990) Also, if you get armor/jewelry that adds vit, use it (if its good obviously) that will help with def and such
Use a tank pet. They require less healing/can take more damage while you attack BUT MAKE SURE TO KEEP IT LEVELED. If you don't, what happens is one Crit Hit and you steal aggro aka die. Learned that the hard way. I use Glacial Walker. As long as you keep him alive, you don't have to worry about taking damage (minus being attacked from behind/stealing aggro) but once your pet dies, hightail it out of there.
Anywho, Up your Vit.
And for those who are talking about making a build or whatever. I quite like that I'm not a one hit kill, though my attack is a bit lower. It's not the original builds to do, its kind of made up, but Here is my build:
http://pwcalc.ru/pwi/?char=be3c98860b5063b7
(the -9 is wrong, I have accessories on that dont show in options that add to my str, vit, and dex it is correct)
My mag may be a bit lower than most, but my pet helps and I can kill within the same amount of time as another veno my level whos a LA.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

I just started playing so dont completly take wat i say as complete truth but..i started wit h a few char all veno's and i tried the light, robe, and heavy armor builds. personally i like the light armor build the most. I put 3 mag 1 str and 1 dex. i do really nice mag damage without takin aggro of my pet scorp thing. That pet you get on the quest to get heal and revive pet. It does really good damage and has roar or something to get instant aggro on att.from all the builds i tried so far this one is the easiest and i die less with it, plus if i run outta mana i can att with melee and still put out pretty good damage...not as much as if i used magic spells0

<_< best not waste points on dex cuz 20 dex give 1% ...better put those points in mag. XD Also at higer lvl u are able get more crit.., some rings mold, belt give 1%-2,3% crit rate..
As a beginer, don't start w HA and LA <_< u will get probs w ur points..
best build must be AA for a beginner. vit or pure mag.
Vit= give hp-a bit more def..
mag = take up ur mag atks.
str= u only need str 2 wear ur gear/wep.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
QQ If i did Crazy stone at 3x AND not 6x, i had been lvl 105 now!
Didnt know about Bh/CrazyStone before lvl 6x LOL0 -
Don't know if this matter's much. But my veno does fine with a 8mag 1str 1vit every 2 levels. I'll probably stop vit at around 25-30 and follow through with 9mag 1str every 2 levels. Alot don't believe we need vit. But others believe you need a little bit. Remember that if you do to much damage you will pull aggro from your pet each time. I kind of do that now but I know what to do in case that happens. Get yourself a glacial walker.
Second best tank pet there is. I will probably never be able to afford a herc and that is perfectly fine with me. Right now I have 2 pets. Glacial Walker and Petite Sawfly. There are alot of veno's out there who have lots of pets. Some to reduce armor and other's to slow them down(Ice Siren). I do see alot of dark wanders with AA veno's. But when I watch them fight they get hit really hard. I like sending my pet after 2-3 mobs. Use roar on the first pet, attack the second pet and keep it healed. Throw in a spell every once in awhile that reduces there phys def and its all groovy.
I have yet to die on my veno as I always watch my surroundings. Mobs spawn quick so if you send your pet and you're where a group of mobs spawn. You're going to be in trouble. As for me I don't mind fighting pets who aren't on my quest list. While my pet is fighting..i'm farming unless it needs healed.
I forgot to mention that walkers have a spell that increases there defense for a few seconds. That helps alot on certain mobs. Good luck and happy gaming!0
