If you are running other progams that are bandwidth-noisy, such as file-sharing or large file downloads, please close them while connected to the Servers.

What connection type are you on, and are you connecting to a router over wireless?

    Local connection meaning...

    Dial-up? Cable? DSL?

By lag, is your frame rate just slow? That's usually a problem more relevant to your computer's hardware (and if there's too much malicious software on it). Or do you mean that button presses take time to be read?

Can you do a tracert to pwigc3.perfectworld.com?

In Windows XP, go to Start->Run..., enter "cmd" in the white box and press enter, then type "tracert pwigc3.perfectworld.com" (without the quotes). To copy the result, right click in the black space of the command prompt, click Select All, and then press Enter on your keyboard. Come back here, open a Reply, and press CTRL and V simultaneously.

In Windows Vista, it's mostly the same, but instead type cmd into the Start Search box to start.

    Ok, that is very double-plus-ungood.

It's possible that your router is just damaged or improperly configured, but having a full second delay on anything but a cellular wireless connection is serious problems. Please contact your ISP.

I'm having the same problem with my keyboard, only my computeris a Windows Vista, and my connection is wireless. Is there something I can do with my settings?

Switching to physical, cat5 ethernet cable can be a major help: I've had even good wireless cards drop a packet every few seconds just from one side of a room to another. Reducing EMI-heavy device use -- items like microwaves or cordless telephones -- may help, as well.

Running the same tracert pwigc3.perfectworld.com command will help us better diagnose a lot of potential causes.
