Question about purchasing gold and silver?

I want to buy gold so I can get things from the in game shop.
But where can I get some information on it?
I don't want to log into paypal first, before I know what the amounts are you can purchase gold in is, and how much it is real $$$
If there is a official thread on this, sorry. I was a bit to lazy to look.
