Computer Freezing

When I play this game (not only this, others too), it always froze at the character creation. I done that quickly, got past it and into the game, however it still freezes every 5 mins - 1 hour (lower times becoming more frequent)

On the freezing, it freezes my comp, not just the game, I can see people moving for about 10 seconds, then it freezes altogether.

I KNOW its probably my graphics card, which is 317mb, 128 of which is video (game says its 127?). My graphics card is ATI radeon 1150 or something like that, I have looked at this problem on other games, where people had a variety of different graphic cards were having this error. I could find no solution on these sites.

Facts:
It happens on most other games ive tried, some much less frequent (once a day.)
Ive tried many things to fix it, such as updating drivers and taking em back a version, which have NOT helped.
I do meet the specifications to play, quite easily.
I have VISTA.

Ive tried changing some in-game options with no luck, but there might be specific ones that could stop this - On one game this worked.

Anybody have any ideas on what to do, or what options I could try to use at a lower level?

Oh, and I also do have another graphics card...

I only just found it, ASUS ATI 9250 or something like that.... Its old and a 2004 model. I dont really know much about graphic cards, although ive read that there is no vista driver for it? Should I do anythign with it if I cant solve my problem any other way?

Could be the cooling of your card that isn't correct.
Since it happens on other applications also, and only after a while (has to warm up).
U could try to lower the settings of your games, so it lowers the stress on ur card.

I had this freezing once and it was because of that, I had my fan speed set to low :P

That sounds like it could be the problem. How do you change your fan speeds?

When it freezes let it sit and watch it Vista will detect a video driver failure and reload the drivers if you wait a little while. for me it usually took 45 seconds. then when the game starts responding again close the game and Windows will tell you if your drivers were at fault. if so you need to find the right ones to work with vista. (this should work on any game that freezes, games that use more graphics it will freeze sooner)

Go the the website for your graphics card and see what drivers and optimizations can be done.

Check your driver software for your card and see if you can change the fan settings through it.

Research the model of your card on the internet and see what you can find.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

I use Rivatuner to monitor and adjust the speeds, but I don't know if it supports all cards, just know it works for me.

It could be complicated, but here's a guide that might be handy: http://www.guru3d.com/article/rivatuner-20-fan-speed--overclock-guide/

Also make sure enough air is going through the case.
Maybe it's hot where u live now, and the parts aren't getting enough cold air.

Anyway, darthpanda16 the administrator will probably be able to help u beter than me.

Edit: looks like he did already :P

I did a little looking around for you and i only came up with 2 options.
    1. there is a makeshift driver here you could try: http://www.softwaredriverdownload.com/ati_radeon_9250_vista_driver.html
    2. upgrade your Video card.
Sorry you have a unsupported by Vista card i have had that one happen to me before.

I used a program to monitor the temperatures in the game:

    Normal Temperature:

    System: 33
    CPU: 37
    AUX: 37
    Core: 37

In the game it slowly increased, and froze at:

    System: 38
    CPU: 51
    AUX: 51
    Core: 56

Also, if i go play it right after a freeze when temperatures are still high it freezes much sooner then if I start with lower temperatures.

With that is it the temperature or a different problem?

Those temperatures look to be within an acceptable range for most CPUs.

    @darthpanda16
The website for ATI products is basically useless for optimizations...
Ive checked the driver software, and no, I cant change the speed through it.
Google isnt providing many answers for fan speed for my card. Have tried ati tray tool, but it just instantly restarted my computer on launch.

    @alvinjir
I believe your makeshift driver is only if I install the other driver?
I do not wish to buy a new video card.
    It is supported by VISTA.

Haven't tried leaving it on to see what happens if the driver fails. Will do next time.

    1. If your game freezes when your in a big city its most likely to be your computer's process speed unable to match speed with the server.

    2. If your game skips or lag when you are logging in or when you are playing the game it mite be your connection with the Internet. If you can buy a copy of the game I recommend you do.

    3. Here another way; if the online game that your trying to play is crash, shutdown (like Mine), lags, skips, here's my favorite: you can only see seretean parts of the game or char. it is your graphic card, and or your computer's memory.

    4. Last but not least you are trying to play a game that doesn't meet or not quite met the required stuff you need to play the game you can find out what is recommended for the game on it's site. If all does not work get a new computer.
