What affects the drops I get from a Boss?

Hey,
I'm just wondering what determines if a boss will drop goodies or not when he dies. I've done about 15 or so instance runs in my time in PW and while I have seen some three-star equipment, I've yet to get any molders and it seems that more often than not, the boss just drops cash and nothing else.
The reason I started this thread is because I noticed a post in a different thread that suggested you have more chances for three-star equipment when you don' t have any high-levels in your party. I also noticed a post where someone said only the person holding the tablet has a chance of getting a molder. Is this stuff true?
So.... Let's break this up:
1) Do molders only drop for tablet holders?
2) If you have high-levels in your party, does it decrease the drop rate?
2.1) If so, what is considered a "high-level" relative to your current instance/FB?
2.2) If so, is it the party's average level that matters? For example, if I have a party with 5 lvl 19s and 1 level 50 doing FB19, do I have less or more chances of drops falling compared to a party with 6 level 25s? (party 1's average level is about 24 vs. party 2 which is 25).
3) Is the Tablet a requirement for boss drops? Or can you do an instance without a tablet and not gain the quest XP but still have a chance at drops?
4) Other than having to share the spoils, does the number of people in your party affect the drop rate?
Thanks for any input you may have!

If you're talking about FB boss...
1)Everyone in the squad can take it
2)Random + luck
3)Gotta have Tablet as far as I know
4)Again, Random + Luck
However, you have MAY HAVE better chance getting good drops if you finish the FB Boss with melee attacks. It's just my theory/opinion about it, so don't take it seriously0 -

Interesting stuff! Thanks for the replies guys and I'd apreciate any more info anyone else has to offer.
This will definitely affect my next FB run! It's great to fly through an FB with a party of high-levels but if it means no drops, then I'd rather have to battle my way through and have a chance at some gear that will allow me grind faster and save money on pots or whatever.
I'd be really curious if someone has a definitive answer on 2.2 as this could make all the difference in the world! I guess that if ogrant is right, and you're trying to maximize the drops you receive from an FB run, you should not have anyone in your party that is more than 2 levels higher than the boss! If I'm not mistaken, the boss for FB19 is a level 23 elite so I guess you wouldn' t want anyone higher than level 25. Did I interpret that correctly?
It would also suggest that if you are planning on getting a specific drop from a boss, your best chance at getting it would be farming the boss as much as possible before you exceed that 3-level limit.Tablet is not requirement for anything. It is just a way to interest hilvls in "helping" you to do an inst.
So if this is true, then the tablet just gives more XP and SP to the party for defeating the boss, nothing else? While I'm sure this XP adds up and can make a huge difference in leveling past the slower levels later in the game, it does also mean that if you just want to farm the boss you don't need to worry about getting a tablet first.
I guess while I'm at it, does anyone have a good ressource that lists the FB bosses with their drops? I found this one for MY-En but the items listed don't have a description or a link so I have no clue what they are lol0 -

Funny -- while it doesn't actually address my issue, I did discover that the site I linked to above also has a monster database for PW international.0 -
From my FB runs I can tell you this.
Me and 2 other friends, done a couple of FB runs just for drops.
We made the 19 FBs a couple of times, we got drops all the time, until me and one of my friends hit 40.
After we hit 40 we only got coins in the 19 FB's.
We still got drops and even 3 star drops when we we're 38,39.
So I'm thinking that if your party member's lvl is 21 lvls or more you don't get drops, except gold.
Well this is what happened to me, so it's just speculation.
We also got 2 mold drops on one boss, and 2 of us were 31+.Yami - Cleric - Heaven's Tear
Testament - Barbarian - Heaven's Tear0 -
You can get any drop the boss normally drops even if high level.
Only thing that changes is the Chance of a drop.
lvl20 char has much higher chances to get a mold drop from lvl23 boss than a lvl40+ has.
The higher over the monsters lvl you are, the less the chance to drop items is.
Tablet has nothing to do with it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

As far as I know there is no "Treasure Hunter" in this game like there is in FFXI.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

With the same group of people doing 3 FB29 runs in a row we had HUGE difference in drops.
1st run - Just coins
2nd run - Assorted "junk" with 1 or 2 good items
3rd run - Plenty of 2 & 3 star items, gems, good stuff.
The only difference was the level of the tab holder. The first 2 runs were low 30's, the last run was 38.0 -
Drynog - Heavens Tear wrote: »3rd run - Plenty of 2 & 3 star items, gems, good stuff.
Hehe, boss never drops 2-star item That was probably one of your fellas, ran out of inventory space and dropped something
I'm not sure about reverse level difference (eg when you being 31 lvl fight fb29 boss which is lvl 35). Game help at the start states that you'll get better reward. But some people say that for yellow mobs drop penalty is the same as for green ones.
3 runs don't make statistics. You may need to raid dungeon for 100 times in a row to make some statistics. So I'm thinking that if your party member's lvl is 21 lvls or more you don't get drops, except gold.
We were getting drop in fb29 with 60+ hilvls. But most of time 60+ get coins in fb19,29.So if this is true, then the tablet just gives more XP and SP to the party for defeating the boss, nothing else?
As for drop, fb19 bosses drop forms which are more appropriate to corresponding race:
- for elves, it drops bow and eva amulet
- for human, sword and mdef amulet
- for beasts, axe and pdef amulet.
Also it drops magic sword for each race.
But if you are going to farm it, you should understand that probability of getting form is quite low, and cleaning up inst takes considerable time, and therefore even if you will get form eventually, you will be far behind other players who would do lvling instead of farming.
Also, crafting weapon from molder requires much more resources than crafting usual weapon.
PS. But gold weapon looks really really nice, and I felt very good when I've got one, despite I understand that I could be lvl 40 now if I wouldn't farm fb19.0 -

LOL!! thanks for the honesty
Lots of good info guys thanks for your input I really apreciate it. If I summarize, this is what we all seem to agree on (at least nobody refuted these points):
- Tablet only grants extra XP, SP and Blood (crafting material)
- The greater the level difference between the boss and the highest member of the party, the less chance you have of getting drops from the boss
- Farming bosses can be fun and profitable, but you won't XP very fast
Thanks again for all your input and if you have anything else to add please do!0 -
I was doing FB19 runs with a squad and they had a theory. The person who kills the boss determines what drops. Most of us were 30+ with myself and the tank being 40+. When the tab holder killed the boss, good stuff would drop, but when one of us accidently finished the boss off all we'd get were coins. I don't know if this theory is corret, but it seemed ot hold true for all our runs.0
-
Another theory given to me last night was level range of your squad can determine how good/bad the drop is. If you have a lvl 20 and 4 lvl 5x in a squad the drop wont be as good as if you had 5 level 30 together.
I don't know, in the end it's a bit of a let down to kill a boss for 100gold! lol
But then you just have to run it again!!!0 -
I personally have found from around 30 FBs that the killing blow does make a significant different in drops, it's not quite the lowest level but just whoever is within 2 levels of the boss landing the final blow that causes good loots to drop. That's not to say high levels killing bosses will cause only coins to drop, but the chances of proper drops becomes significantly lower, every time I made sure the final hitter was within the level range of the boss, 3* drops were certain to drop, this is from around 20-25 FB19, only once out of 7-10 times that a high level killed the boss had a single 3* item dropped, the rest were either just coins or 1* items.
I think it's probably one of the things worth a try, much more so than some of the more extreme methods like not looting anything or clearing a dungeon completely.0 -
Helped out someone in fb19 today. Me being 41, him being 25. I don't know who got the last blow, but we got decent - good drops. A mold, and a couple decent starred items.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Thanks for the tip! I'll have a talk with my party the next time I FB and we'll do our best to let the lowest level finish off the boss.0

Does damage to the Boss determine who gets what, or rather how much, when the party is picking up the loot.
i am a cleric so my job basically is to stay back and heal. So I do no damage to the boss or very little if I can manage to take time to get a shot off.
My experience since playing this char from OB start to now. I have done about 8 FB's 19&29's
When the kill has happened and everyone is picking up the items, I feel that I, as the cleric, do not get a fair share of items. So much so is the difference that I am believing that damage to the boss is taken into effect for who gets what. One instance I recieved zero items. not even the blood. on at least 3 occasions I got 2 items and they were pots. One time only have I recieved a molder and one other item along with 2 pots. I am watching a party of 6 p/u items and the other member who actually do damage get 2x if not more in items than the cleric. I know that molders are the rarest drops so i am not expecting to get a molder every time. Im thrilled that I got one, its all the other drops also that go to the others.
When I played MY version and had a tank the ratio of items I recieved was on par to the other people doing damage.
So let me hear from other clerics on whether they experience this also
P.S. Found out that if you are level 28 helping with a FB29 you do not get the 6k experience. You need to be at least the level of the FB run.0 -

I'm a cleric too, and all I do is heal at fb's. No need to do dmg.
And last fb19 i got all 3* items that droppped.
And another time I got both molders that dropped, even though I wasnt party leader, and there was a lowbie with quest.
So I guess it's more randomish, depends on ur luck.
And about the highest dmg thingy, I did most damage on one since we didnt have tank and had to hit and run xD. And we still got 3* drops.
My guess is that last hit counts the most.Yami - Cleric - Heaven's Tear

healed like I was supposed to .
the total amount of items I got from the drops is ZERO
hell it my own tab too.
random sucks!0 -
Also a Cleric; didn't get much from mine or my fiancee's FB19 runs. During my run, the only 3* item I got was for completing the quest. During my fiancee's, random only let me get one decent item (the only 3* item encountered), and it was a magic weapon which would've been unreasonable to keep, as she needed it to do more damage.
In addition, I was doing more damage per hit on the boss than she was, but SHE did most of the room-clearing with her Venomancer... If that helps.0 -
my cleric also gets hardly any drops inside dungeon instances from the boss, our party members will be stating they had a full load, while more often then not i have gotten 2-3 items total. nearly always they are minor DQ items from the mobs or potions and such from mobs/boss
I ran the fb19 for my barbarian and got good drops however and left with nearly a full pack
when out in the world things tend to be more even, even if i am just afked nearby not fighting or healing i have gotten items.0 -
From what I've been doing in dungeons recently... we let the lowest level person attack the boss for the last 10%, and we seem to get decent drops, even though we have members that are 5-15 levels higher.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
-
last hitting is just a theory~ we've done that several times but it doesn't seem to work 100%.. it does work 70% but not 100%0

level 29 drop was coins
level 29 drop was coins
level 29 got anialated because everyone ran in randomly and attacked. guess who died
2x and decided that this group was not going to listen so left.
level 29
31 wiz--3*arm/arm/mat/arm/pot
30 barb--nothing
30 bm--nothing
35 veno--arm/mat/arm/arm/mat/mat/pot
58 bm--arm/pot/pot/mat
38 cleric (me)--pot/pot/pot
level 29
32 barb--arm/ring
38 veno--nothing
37 cler--mat/arm/arm/mat/pot/note
49 arch--jade/mat
46 bm--pot
38 cleric(me)--3*weapon/blood/arm/arm/pot/mat
in this one the tab owner died about 5 hits from the end. me and the other cleric took out quigzi (spelling)
29
53 veno--pot/3*arm/3*arm
32 bm--note/mat
49 barb--mat
46 wiz--arm/arm/pot
46 cler--pot/mat
39 cleric (me)--pot/jade
not much was dropped on this one, probably due to all the high levels. I was given a 3* armour.
So, it looks like I need to hush up with my griping. seems I do get a fair share of drops for the most part. It may not be the best pieces but I'm getting something. Think I may have had a dry spell there for a while.0
